Mount&Blade (Warband too) thread V. Knights of Calradia

If you don't like the grinding play Mercenaries, the only grinding there is for money and it's not bad at all.
I'm finally at the last stages of taking all of Calradia. I've managed to dwindle the Nord-controlled holds down to Curin Castle and Sargoth.
Anyone know a way to get floris expanded to not crash the game every time I swing a sword?
Is there a high quality gunpowder mod for Warband? I tried two, but one had poor campaign AI, and the other one had the AI thinking guns were magic tools that could fire across the map through mountains.
1812-1815 Napoleonic is decent on that field, but swords are completely overpowered. They deal blunt damage and is pretty much a 1hit kill regardless of your level.

That's also the one where AI though guns had perfect accuracy :V
-Snip- Somehow managed to miss the Total war thread
I finally took all of Calradia. Now what else is there to do?
Picked this game up because it was on sale at amazon, riddled with random crashing in singleplayer, and constant crashing in multiplayer.
Tried the texture demand fix didn't work, neither did disabling flag optimization.
Running a 64-bit os only other programs running are rainmeter and steam.
I just bought Warband. I've never played any of these games before. Is there anything I need to know before I start playing?

Get the Freelancer mod. It's just like the original game except you now have the ability to join a noble's army as a regular troop. (good for getting into large battles quickly) and the mod comes with Diplomcay, which just makes the nations relations with each other more indepth.
Watch this video, it's a somewhat funny Let's Play type video featuring the mod.

Ah. Well, AI tends to do that when you give them guns. They just blast away as soon as they spot something.

Go into Exile and start a rebellion against your own fucking kingdom.

There is another mod, "1775 Old Fronteir" or something similar where AI seem to understand that guns suck and wait for somebody to get reasonably close before firing. Unfortunately, the map is too big for countries to defend their forts which leads to no feeling of war.

1755 and mods with muskets kind of require you to use line formations. If you don't, youll just get overrun by natives.

My problem is more being outrun by an army 4 times my size despite consciously investing 7 points into pathfinding.

Ah.
The Deluge has AI that doesn't snipe from the other side of the map, but it's multiplayer only.

I do believe your equipments weigh has a role in that.
Finally got around to installing Warband. Damn this game is fun, although I have no idea what I should be putting points towards when I level.
This game misses one thing. Multiplayer Campaign. Else, I love the game.

Wait, so that's what retire does?
Or is that another mod?

Put your points into charisma, leadership, prisoner management and trade with the occasional point going into strength/agility You dont need to worry too much about intelligence as you can just hire a companion and put all his points into it. Try to specialize in just 1 ranged weapon (eg bow/crossbow/throwing) and 1 melee weapon (2 handers/1 handers). Polearms are pretty useless IMO.
At the beginning you should get a small party together and hunt looters. Use blunt weapons when you attack them so you can capture them and sell them as slaves. This will get you a decent bit of starting money but it wont be enough to sustain you. From here you should start trading or else join up with a lord as a vassal.

If you're a vassal you can just ask your King to let you go. And look for the claimant.
As for being a king of your own kingdom, well, that is another thing.
If you're new to Warband you should invest in the mod "Native Expansion". It's essentially like vanilla Warband except it has re-balanced and reworked many of the original game whilst improving it on multiple levels.
Slave traders, for example, will buy off prisoners at different prices depending on their military level/rank (looters won't be the same price as a huskarl for example--if I recall correctly, the vanilla game keeps all prisoners sold (regardless of level) at a measly, flat rate of 50 gold apiece).
The game can be unforgiving at times but it's extremely addicting once you keep everything in order. Don't lose faith!
No you sell prisoners for different amount of gold, for example a swadian knight goes for about 200 denars while a looter goes for around 40 I think?
Then again there are ransom brokers who actually pay you based on prisoner rank.

Slave trader = Shit, dont ever go to him and sell prisoners
Ransom broker = Fucking awesome, gives more than hundred denars for even recruits.

Elaborate on the exile thing then.

Ramun gives good prices for prisoners worth less then 50.

Only units worth less than 50 are like farmers and peasants.
Once you are a vassal or at least have an upgraded army of 50+ then you will never fucking bother with farmers.
