GLA just looks fucking stupid wielded two-handed. But yeah, great sword has literally no disadvantage except difficult to break shields but it doesn't matter in the slightest when you can just spam and get two hits in before a shielder can get a hit in between. [editline]1st October 2012[/editline] Long range, absurd damage, even more absurd speed, what sort of idiot doesn't think that's overpowered
My favorite part is where the two handed GLA is not even unbalanced.
It's not? What the flying fuck [editline]1st October 2012[/editline] The only disadvantage to wielding two-handed is loss of the thrust which is worthless for non-spear polearms anyway.

The speed is also Greatsword level.
Eugh. I sometimes play crpg for practice before native since crpg players are generally better, but I forget that everything is like twice as fast in native, and you can't bank on doing things that would kill good players sometimes. I love when I block and feint and the other guy just kills me because he wasn't planning on blocking at all.

Also, from what I've seen, the general populace of cRPG is more skilled on average but the top players of Native are better than cRPG's. Though at this point, top player is really subjective to what you think is skilled, I remember playing Native and cRPG back when skill was about footwork/feinting/chambering/blocking. Nowadays, skills is based on how fast you can spin and your knowledge of game mechanics abuses.

It used to be a decent simulation of a fight and now it's two people trying as hard as they can to break reality in their favor. [editline]1st October 2012[/editline] M&B has become The Matrix.

[editline]1st October 2012[/editline] M&B has become The Matrix.
Seems that what most games become, GunZ for exemple when I played and it was new was great, people were using mechanics as they were meant to be used and now everyone's doing this LOL 360 SHOTGUN KSTYLE BUTTERFLY EPEPWEPWP shit. It especially makes me sad in cRPG because I used to be a top contender and garnered a reputation as the best blocker in the game and one of the best player in the NA community back in '10, I'm still good, no doubt about that but there's just so much I can do about people breaking mechanics so I'm just a good player now because I refused to break the game and I still refuse to. I see the game as a case of Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards where everyone rerolled wizard and I'm still desperately clinging to being a warrior. Everyone's spinning around attempting to cast tornadoes but they ran out of Mana from all their backpedalling fleetfoot active spell so they're just smacking people in the face with the longest staff and most damaging staff available (GLB is well known for this shit.)
Great sword is easily one of the most OP weapon in the game, the only one that rivals it and slightly surpass it would be the Great Long Axe in two handed mode and even then it doesn't have the fuckretarded thrust.
I feel like I do better against Great Sworders with some form of spear v:v:v

Not sacrificing fair balance for historical accuracy, but the closer the system is to real fighting, the more it's going to be based on skill. Know what I just thought of that would be cool for M&B2? Analog block and attack directions that let you block and attack at a full 360 degrees and blocks would protect an arc extending from where exactly you put the block up.
Great Sword is pretty slow, i always use the heavy bastard sword, since i can use it with a shield, and when i two hand it, its unbelievably fast.
I feel like I do better against Great Sworders with some form of spear v:v:v
The polearm has a slight advantage over the two handed's thrust if you know how to use it. Polearm's thrusts have the ability to dilate time so if you've got a good footwork going on, you can stab the guy before your animation is even 10% done since thrusts on polearms are active much more earlier than two handers' thrusts.
Great Sword is pretty slow
god no
"Nowadays, skills is based on"..."your knowledge of game mechanics abuses."
One of the main reasons I rarely play multiplayer games in general anymore.
no what
you don't use a great sword when some jock challenges your manhood? how else do you acquire wenches if not through honorable combat?
god no
I just tried them both on GK, and i still like the Bastard sword, its a perfect sword for racking up kills even with 140 ping. [editline]2nd October 2012[/editline] Especially when your going against Khergits and a shield is must have.
you don't use a great sword when some jock challenges your manhood? how else do you acquire wenches if not through honorable combat?
I use a sword and buckler. Huge advantage over a two-handed sword.

Holy tits, you can make a lot of money in 1257 AD just doing the guild master quests. Since the travel distances are so huge, most "deliver ale to X city" quests actually pay really well. [editline]2nd October 2012[/editline] On the other hand, I got one of those "daughter bandit ransom" quests and the guild master was complaining that the daughter of a prominent noble was kidnapped, and that they wanted a hefty ransom of 90 denars for her safe return. 90 denars, woe is me
he was probably the lord of fuck all in central russia
spear/warspear always.
On my main character I used a two hand sabre, then I had 2 shields and a normal one handed sword. +270 proficiency in two handed made the sabre cut through everything, and the shields + 1hand sword were for sieging.
you can easily kill a pro player by spamming your weapon and moving forward into them. also in sieges I always set up raid groups to take over enemy siege towers, its a great tactic that makes them funnel their troops into one or two towers.
Alright just pre-ordered War of The Roses on steam, it comes out in roughly one hour so it was a close call that I remember it or I would have missed out on the little extra content and discount.
I wonder if there is a end game easter egg in Brytenwalda as Welsh tribes retake their land with King Artha and Merlin take back Briton from the Anglos, Jutes, Saxons, Irish pirates and Scottish raiders. Or a red dragon battles in the sky against the white dragon, the red welsh dragon slaying the white anglo saxon one. Fuck that would be cool.

Its welsh mythology, Artha was to come and kick out the now English from Briton the story is still on going, he hasn't turned up yet, nor has there been a dragon.
you just imagined a cool pre rendered battle, now imagine it in the mount and blade engine not so cool anymore it is
Only problems with big battles in M&B is the battlesize limitations (Which can be cranked up with mods) and the small size of the battle maps.
Only problems with big battles in M&B is the battlesize limitations (Which can be cranked up with mods) and the small size of the battle maps.
Commander mode in Napoleonic wars on the largest generated maps makes me think otherwise. I wish the same sort of gamemode existed in warband.
