What's an easy way to make money in AD1257? I'm using some Mercs since I'm trying the Lance Recruitment option to try and make my game the most authentic but fuck I'm running low on cash.
I got 7k denars for taking some ale to Cairo from Stirling. Guild master quests are pretty good.
Blood and Steel is batshit insane, you can pretty much solo entire armies of bandits(and by armies I literally mean armies,200 men or more),even when not playing a barbarian.
I don't really like just how ridiculous it is.How on earth did XenoArgh get the splendid idea of making every single party out there have enough soldiers to depopulate a goddamn continent?
Did he see the perfectly fine troop amounts of vanilla an think "This is too realistic, let's multiply it by 700!"?

Its actually surprising because he just removed the ridiculous price inflation that made everything except troops ridiculously expensive and with excessive amounts of zeroes. (If I remember correctly plate armour was worth about 30-50 elite mercanaries back when I played it.)
Grinding tournaments is the easy way to go. If you're lucky you can catch 2 tournaments going on immediately after eachother and reap in more cash that way.
I usually get buttfucked by the men in tourney's though because my shitty armor.

And he adjusted the income from prisoner ransoming so that the player could easily make about 50,000 denars just from ransoming off a few dozen looters and bandits.
I usually get buttfucked by the men in tourney's though because my shitty armor.
Jump over the fence right after the tourny match begins and strike them down. Tediously gamey as fuck, but it's a easy way to win them at low levels.
I dont understand how it's possible to lose tournaments in 1257. Get a cracked heraldic lance for like 200 denars> couch lance> profit

I scrape together a lance, crossbow and mace for tournies in the early game of 1257. It takes about 2-3 bolts to kill a knight (its handy for provoking them to begin an attack when they're the last one left, on foot and have a shield, saving a few minutes of trying to land a couch lance on them) while the Mace is just as a last resort that doesn't leave you defenceless against foot knights.
Never tried the fence trick though.

i use my fists
it works amazingly well actually, does about 50~ damage on each hit
Haha, poor Christian di Venezia.
I created a young man who went off to explore the world and through fame and fortune become a revered warrior. I began in Scandinavia, just getting off the boat. I collected a band of marauders and set out around Scandinavia. I quickly realized that a) there wasn't anything going on here and b) Christian would feel much more at home in Venice. I took a caravaneer mission down to Firenze and went back to Venezia, joining the Doge's army, performing tasks for him, etc. Well...the Doge suddenly went off his rocker and declared war on Russians/Mongols...(?) and as a member of his army, we smashed into several very large Russian/Mongol brigades. After an hour of fighting, Venice and myself pulled away from the first fight. Now we had 11 men versus 20, evenly matched you would think? Wrong. We were so tired and so small, with more archers than infantry that we were wrecked. The Doge and myself were taken prisoner. I escaped and ran back home to Venezia. It took me a few days to get back so I went to the Doge's castle and lo and behold, the Doge was still missing...I quickly gathered a second army and went off to find the thirty man brigade that was holding my Commander hostage. As I returned I saw two more Venetian parties raiding villages. I joined up as a solider in one of the Lord's armies and again we set out to raiding. Eventually, a party of men forty more than ours appeared and another hour long battle ensued. We again decimated each other, but they had the superior calvalry which ended us.
Again, myself and my commander were captured and taken. When I was finally freed, I gathered as many men as I could muster and joined instead as a Merc. I went to meet the Marshal in enemy territory...and even though I had a high pathfinding skill...the Marshall and the Venetians were nowhere to be seen. I failed the quest, and angrily turned to return to Venice. Suddenly a hundred of the enemy appear and my forty man brigade begins to skirmish. The battle becomes even after a half an hour and eventually both sides are too tired and lost too many men to do anything else, so I pull back. As I'm trying to run the bastard I just called draw with rushes me, this time with his friend who has a hundred more troops than I. After trying again and again, we're bested and again I am taken prisoner.
It's safe to say Christian di Venezia later abandoned his mercenary work with Venice. I moved on work in The Holy Land and now lead a brigade of Muslims on supply runs, etc that run through mainland Europe from time to time. I'm planning on possibly becoming a long time Merc with the Sultanate.
Huh, well it appears that it is, in fact, possible to chamber block a couched lance.
Knights kept doing it to me in 1257 AD, so I tried it myself finally and it works. I'm going to abuse the shit out of this in multiplayer.. great way to save your shield from being decimated.. likewise there's no sheilds in Napoleonic Wars so chamber blocking couched lances would be a good way to save yourself.

How do?

What mod? 1257?
How do?
Same as any other chamber block, just against a couched lance

the hit detection in this game can be bullshit
also when you try to swing but the attack fails because you're too cramped or you hit a shield etc, I don't think there is any effective way to deal with crowd control vs NPC's as they all rush you and attack constantly
well just like in real life
if you were swarmed by 15 guys with clubs in real life you wouldn't really have room to swing a sword, even if you're on a horse
yeah but you can flail around like a fish
you can't do that in mount and blade

NPC's don't behave like real people.

But it only works if you're backpedaling while swinging left-right constantly, otherwise you're gonna get swarmed pretty quick.
It's even better if you're killing one by one at a chokepoint, like in the tower of a castle for example.
Melee friendly fire and tweaking the AI so that they don't try to hug you like you are their long lost twin would fix that.

The hit detection is very good and the ai is a joke if you can backpedal as fast or faster as they can run forward.
edit: the only wrong thing really is that because of no friendly fire, the enemies can attack through eachother a bit.
Anything big happened recently, or is the thread just on season?
Anyone know how to fix the stupid "Creating AI for (x nation)" repeating message in 1257AD?

The trick is to glance the people on the edges of the mob with your longest weapon, and split the mob up with good footwork. Never rush straight at a mob or you're screwed, you shouldn't even touch them short of with your weapons.
But I've had enough ridiculous clean hits on enemy players in MP fail to register to know the hit detection system is fucked though. Its a big deal in NW where a key part of bayonet vs bayonet gameplay is finding a gap in your opponent's blocking and taking risks.
a weapon with quick speed imo, is there anyway to turn friendly fire on for NPCs?
a weapon with quick speed imo, is there anyway to turn friendly fire on for NPCs?
Probably, as it is already coded in for multiplayer. Unfortunately, you would probably find NPCs mistakenly killing friendlies half the time as they don't expect to be able hit them.

In native multiplayer, if you set FF to on and speed to fast, AI Nord Archers will kill their comrades a lot.
reminds me of this one time in With Fire and Sword
I used cheats to make my guy level 2048 (or something similarly ridiculous), leveled up all my stats to 63, made all my weapon proficiencies in the 500s, all skills to 10 etc. Then, when I got in game, I gave myself lodes e mone and bought myself the best possible gear I could.
Then, when I got into battles, I could solo entire groups, riding around on my abnormally fast horse (best horse in game+10 riding+insane dexterity) and headshotting moving targets easily with my masterwork flintlock pistol. On foot, I could swing my sword literally twice in a second on fast combat mode, enabling me to cut through crowds of lightly armored enemies in seconds.
It was so much fun. To be honest I wouldn't mind making a Let's play of it, there were some extremely humorous moments.
M&B with a maximized character but no other cheats is fucking fun as hell.
