Hit detection in M&B is nearly flawless though. I've done tests with it and it's so accurate that it even accounts for the minor differences in movement of the idle animations. This issue isn't hit detection, it's that you can do all sort of crap to "project" your weapon outwards, or otherwise just abuse the speed bonus system in the case of polearms. Chivalry had the right idea in that regard, when you swing your weapon the game forces "inertia" so you can't just turn around mid swing. When you swing your weapon in a certain direction you need to commit to that decision, can't just turn it into a 360 sword swing. Hopefully M&B:2 sorts that shit out.
That was one of the things I liked most about Chivalry, that the dead body you just decapitated actually prevents enemies from just barreling through it and stabbing you in the dick.

Max level is actually 2042, but you are unable to do anything since you reach cap super fast.

spinning is ok if u just keep your distance because usually when theyre spinning they are chambering only one attack and u can be ready to block that. edit: and if they spin and feint lik fuck then its just reflex
Playing this at the minute, and was in the middle of nowhere when the Nords start war with Khergit Khanate, and I'm allied with the Nords. Because I'm still pretty new at the game I didn't know what colour the Khergit Khanate were, but shortly after got attacked by 2 parties of them. At this point I had about 60 guys, and the first party had 200. I thought to myself "well fuck, there's my party lost, time to start again", but fought anyway and ended up actually winning the fight with ~20 guys (another ~15 were wounded, rest were killed). The last few guys stuck together along with me and we fucked their shit up while they circled us in horses shooting arrows at us. [t]http://puu.sh/1O97h[/t] After this the other party attacked, thankfully only with 20 guys. So it was 20 v 20 basically but every one of them had horses and we pulled through with 0 casualties. This game can be awesome sometimes.

One thing that annoys me. Select Counts of whom i've beaten to hell, captured as slaves, and sold off about 3 times still think "Oh it's a brilliant idea to fuck with this guy's village." I respect the determination but holy shit, you will never win, stop trying.
Do you guys have any advice when starting out in the 1257AD mod? I've played Floris, PoP and Brytenwalda before, but I'm a little confused how to begin in this. Which recruitment system do you prefer? And it's better to use the SVN version, right?
I preferably use lance system over native, but I tend to use mercs most of the time anyway (in SVN they're 1k to buy compared to 0.97's 3k, and have incredibly meager wages with 2 -3 companies). I've recently been using SVN since it's the most up to date version and gets updated almost every other day. Speaking of which, there's a big update for the SVN version coming out next week on Thursday or so, so keep a eye out for that. Starting out; go find a couple of tournaments, pet 500 on yourself 1v1, crouch spear and win, rinse and repeat. Or be a cheap exploitive bastard and hide beyond the fence on Euro arenas and beat the ever living shit out of them with a lance, that works very well too.
I always have fun by mainly having my forces consist of welsh archers and some knights, with infantry as a bridge between the archers. The longbow is amazing in the game and so fun to use.

I'm still rolling as an Italian-turned Muslim general. My cavalry smashes anything in their way. I barely have infantry or archers.
Cavalry is a waste of time in 1257 unless you're cheating for money, it's good that they balanced it out. Having about 10 knights or something is really good for breaking enemy infantry formations, but considering they have a wage of like 300 denars a week it just makes more sense to have 6 sergeant guisarmers or burgher men at arms for every knight. Massed heavy infantry will always win out against cavalry in 1257.
