Mount&Blade (Warband too) thread V. Knights of Calradia

TES is not about horse combat and never has been. Horses are just a means of conveyance and one of the games doesn't even have them.
Mount and Blade = Combat/Strategy RPG, mounted combat fits into that.
TES = Exploration & Interaction RPG
I loved Mount&Blade but haven't played Warband. Is it any good?
Yes. So very good.
Yes. So very good.
I haven't played vanilla M&B (even though I bought it..), but from what I understand, M&B warband is basically just an larger, improved version of M&B, isn't it?
how do i make my own faction, do i just get a companion (i think i have methilda or some woman currently) to go out and spread the word that i'm going to be king/queen of calradia?
How come nobody plays F&S?
How come nobody plays F&S?
I just played a couple hours of Battle.
It's really quite fun but I can't stand the singleplayer.
I captured 2 Counts, what am i meant to do with them?
You can sell them for money, if they don't escape, but I would recommend letting them go after the battle, so you gain a relationship boost with them, so when you make your own faction, you can persuade them to join you.
I'm trying out SnD's polished native mod and I was just wondering if you are supposed to get weapons AND armor from the lord whose army you are in. So far they have only been giving me weapons and no armor.
I'm not sure if the mod that does that is the most recent, it's called freelancer, so you can try and find it and see if that fixes it. It sucks because besides that I really like just chillin in an army.
Marriage? Fuck that. I don't need a woman nagging at me to fix the car when I'm out pillaging!!
They don't nag at all really. They don't do shit really. You can campaign around and kill bandits for days and days and never see your wife and she won't mind. All she does really is allow you to have feasts/an extra inventory for the said feast items, or whatever else you want to store.

Well, that helps. You need I believe around 50-ish right to rule (you can see how much you have in the character report thing) before you can become a king/queen without other kings/queens thinking you're just a rebel. To actually form your own faction there's a few things you can do.

(One way it doesn't say you can create your own faction is by being a vassal, and then demanding a fief, and if your current king doesn't give it to you, you can break off and rebel I believe.)

Just because it's not about horse combat doesn't mean it doesn't have to include it.
It was (or atleast I thought) immersion-breaking and annoying in TeS4 everytime I wanted to go fight someone on my horse, I had to get off it, kill him and get back on.

You should be getting both. Hopefully they fix it soon, because I had decent armor that I lost when I was promoted and given nothing in return.
Fucking finally managed to retire at cRPG, going for a new build now.
Also, if they haven't already, Bethesda should hire TaleWorlds so they can add horse combat to Skyrim.
Fuck that. Bethesda should hire taleworlds to make the combat system period.
This "polished" mod isnt very polished at all. Script errors in dialogue, buggy skyboxes and alot of textures look ugly or too shiny.

I get the script errors too, but other than that, I think it's a great mod! The problems might be caused by the fact that it wasn't made for this version of Warband.
Thread close soon.

Although the textures do still look stupid in my opinion. Did you guys get the hotfix for it though? Apparently that fixes some stuff, although it's still probably going to have issues with the current version of Warband assuming you guys updated
I just trained an awesome army of 50 men, highly skilled and equipped. Unfortunately I ran into a major war party with 500+ men.
Such is life, I hate those moments.

Personally I really don't like the Enhanced Animations. To be fair, it's probably just because I'm used to the normal ones and these new ones makes it very hard for me to manual block
^Dark Messiah combat is best combat
i'd rather have the dark messiah team, mb combat is a little too slow and not visceral for my taste, still, better than "left click left click left click left click potion repeat"
Yeah I really do like how Dark Messiah combat feels, and in fact it'd probably be better suited for a game like TES, but I like how much skill is actually involved in M&B combat. Perhaps actually just M&Bs blocking system combined with Dark Messiah's everything else would be good.

That actually sounds a fair bit more realistic to me. While on horseback against a single target, you'd be a pretty extreme disadvantage despite what M&B portrays. The first clean sword strike to the legs of your horse would leave you on the ground picking up your teeth, cavalry is well suited to large scale combat when you can attack in formations, but you can't do 1 on 1 combat against somebody who has a weapon and is on foot. TES is not the sort of game where mounted combat can be implemented in a believable and balanced manner, its just not possible.
Theres no reason to play Regular M/B over warband, really.
The only reason I still play regular is because Sword of Damocles mod isn't 100% ported over to warband yet, and it is by far the most complete mod, and the best kingdom management mod.

But having 20 arrows sticking into you and still being able to move isn't believable and balanced?
But having 20 arrows sticking into you and still being able to move isn't believable and balanced?
Yes, because Oblivion was the only TES game ever made :downs: Wasnt a problem in the other games and apparenlty wont be in Skyrim.
And since it happens to both enemies and the player, then it technically is balanced.

ITT: Nord Huscarls

Army of 903 enemies trying to raid my shit. Ten huscarls piled onto the top of the siege ladder, the Khergit archers couldn't get any shots in because there were so many infantry piling up the ladder, the Huscarls literally turned the thing into a fucking meat grinder, hoards of khergits were pushed in by the ones behind them and they were just dying in troves without getting any hits off
After the first 400 died, I guess the rest figured it was a good time to leave.
I keep hiring peasant women and nords to become sword sisters and huscarls respectively, but they keep dying.
Goddamnit, game.
i think i have like 60 swadian knights on my female character
The crossbowmen are more dangerous.
In sieges, they have a tenancy of ducking down every time after they fire to reload, so a good 25% of the time your (and your allied) arrows/bolts are going to miss when one of them ducks down.
Huscarls are a good counter, Marksmen are also great of the siege map size is large (it usually isn't on city sieges) as they outrange them. My tactic, is to run up the ladder, jump over the defenders, fall down from the wall, and then go attack the archers / crossbowmen myself. Once I have dealt with one side of them I grab their weapons and ammo and shoot the others.
[editline]18th July 2011[/editline]
Other Rhodoks are also good due to the tower shields, although they're not very sturdy. I tend to win sieges by letting my troops sit back with their shields out (crossbowmen too) and let them just drain all the enemy arrows before I open fire.

Unless the rider has a lance or a spear.
Can anyone tell me what the best Ranged, Melee and Cavalry units are? Just wondering what i should have in my army.
Best infantry: Nord Huscarls
Best ranged: Vaegir Marksmen and Rhodok Sharpshooters
Best cavalry: Swadian Knights & Sarranid Mamlukes
