Dungeon Keeper had a possesion spell, but anyway futuristic stuff is kinda overly done and it gets dull fast, unless it's done such as X3 did it. Evil Genius has a rather unique style and I doubt setting the game in the future will make it more interesting, maybe have it be 10 years later after the events wich passed. What it really needed was more ambientations and islands, that was the main problem also a game with great aestethics will always look great, no matter it's age.
I'm not sure why the humour couldn't be kept too, it would be kinda like killing half of the game.

there wasn't much humor in 1. there was just a shitload of goofiness.
and how exactly can you know that futuristic stuff is overdone and gets old fast. do you realize that EVERYTHING is overdone? and how can you say with confidence that an evil genius 20 minutes into the future wouldn't be good [B]if you've never played such a game[/B]
Wasn't the entire point of Evil Genius to copy the goofy James Bond villain vibe and make you able to play as the cliché bad guy from one of those movies?
i think i see the problem.
everything is an absolute. everything is black and white. at least here.
no the point [sp]one of them[/sp] of evil genius was to be a (as the title says) a world domination simulation. the art style was only a part of it, and most likely employed to lighten the mood so esrb would rate their game T instead of M as well as a selling point.

There are only two games I can name that use the 70's goofiness. This and no one lives forever, it is nowhere near as overdone as a stupid, dark and grim futuristic setting where any form of personality is sucked out faster than a tiwanese hooker.
and you don't see a giant opportunity for dark humor?
you know, austin powers was lampooning an already ridiculous series when it came down to it.
only problem is that james bond in recent years has become way more refined and much less ridiculous.
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
you kind of fucked up that analogy about the hooker as well..
Guys, I wouldn't get worked up too much over anything FoodStuffs posts. About 90% of everything he posts is terrible. If you don't believe me, check his post history.
thinking about this, chatting with you guys makes me think about this a bit more.
there's no way we couldn't have a 20 minutes into the future evil genius without losing the humor.
i mean we have dictators of dangerous nuclear armed countries dying and their socialite like predecessors taking the reins of a country.
Kimmy shot a missile into the sea basically because he felt like it and he wanted some attention.
it doesn't have to be 60s groovy-goofy to retain the feel at all.

please take the straw man out of your ass i'm being civil. well right up until the sentence before this.
Evil Genius is hilarious with all it's little details, animations and references. It also has great gameplay and a refined system.
I for one would like this game just fully fixed and expanded just as much as a more serious "right now"-villain sim.

You do realize a strawman is when somebody changes your arguement in order to pick it apart, right? You just seem to be randomly flinging it about in an attempt to insult somebody over the internet.
Evil Genius without the 60s wouldn't be evil genius. The graphical style, the humour and the gameplay all lend to the period; if it was SUPER GRIMDARK and in the future it wouldn't be the same.
He has a point. It's going to be hard to do a second EG in the same setting. EG1 had almost everything, but it just needed to be done better. Make a sequel and it'd feel more like a remake than a sequel. He also has a point that the artstyle would not work outside of that time setting.
Modern day would be fine for me, whatever it is as long as it isn't future (excluding past because I can't imagine an EG in the middle ages, for example).

Pretty much.
Though honestly I did not really like humour, the interrogation dances made me cringe. Artstyle was fine though.
Still, not gonna rag on EG for it, as most liked it.

so you stating that me being a "shit poster" isn't changing the subject at all?
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
man it's always the same juvenile shit in this fucking place
this is so going to go nowhere, thanks guys for cunting the place up so bad it smells like a sushi place's dumpster in here.

You're the one spewing spittle all over the place because we don't want a generic BF3 lookin EG.
because that's exactly what i was saying it should be. i used those exact words.
no, this is how it is.
you see the name foodstuffs, then you see my post, then you warp the shit out of it and make conclusions where assumptions should be made.
you have no idea what's on my mind and yet you're positive you do.
if you really are as superior as you seem to think you are then just fuckin drop it like i'm [I]trying[/I] to. otherwise prove my point and keep on posting about this topic i brought up i wish no longer to talk about because [B]you[/B] took the piss out of it.

Actually we read the posts and then see they're ridiculous and idiotic, and treat them as such. About 90% of what you post everywhere else just happens to be ridiculous and idiotic. You posted in the STALKER thread without acting like an idiot, so nobody reacted like you did. Then you come in here and start throwing about assumptions and accusations, and then get all pissy when we don't immediately take your opinion as our own.
thank you for proving my point. completely. the above post couldn't have been a more perfect example.
i'd feel like an idiot if i'd really have to spell it out for anyone. it's obvious spelling it out for you wouldn't do any good because there's no resolution to this until someone gets banned.
if you do want to start shit, you're an asshole. if you don't want to start shit you'll refrain from posting some dumb shit that only fans the flames.
I'm having an odd issue, on my laptop I had all the foliage and everything on the second island but now for some reason it's gone when playing on my main desktop.

Did you copy the save over or did you start a new game from scratch?
[QUOTE=chunkymonkey;38209892]Did you copy the save over or did you start a new game from scratch?[/QUOTE]
No, I copied the save directly to objective 6. I didn't really feel like doing everything all over to get to the second island. I'll try a save before I left the island.
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
I can't seem to be able to fix it, the second level looks horrid without all the vegetation.
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
Running the game in compatiblity mode as Win Vista Service Pack 2 fixed it :D (currently on Win 7 64x)
Wow, 28 new posts. I'm happy that this has become quite popular again (Possibly because i posted the news about a new Evil Genius game?)
[QUOTE=U-Lander;38208153]When I saw this thread on the front page I was hoping for a fan-remake/sequel/spiritual successor.
Honestly, I would give blood for that. Or teeth or something.Anything really.[/QUOTE]
Rebellion have said they have plans for a new evil genius game.

Unless that news is "We are making an new EG game." then it's little more than speculation and optimistic hope.
As far as we know it's just "on the short list" which does not guarantee it's gonna get made. So unless there is some news I missed where they expressly said they are making a new EG then I'm doubtful. I'm really gonna have to ask for a source on this claim that they have plans for a new EG game.
I honestly want more grittiness, but it's simply because I usually associate complexity in games with that atmosphere, you wouldn't see a gritty angry birds or other similar games. But games with complex gameplay tend to have a complex atmosphere, and gritty/serious atmosphere is easiest to turn into a complex one.
I mean; I loved austin powers, but that's a simple joke cracking micheal myers movie. I don't know how you could turn inception into a comedy without it being awkward as hell all, which is kindof what I felt with EG.
Iunno, I just kindof like to immerse myself into a game the more engaging it is, and a simple atmosphere like this leaves a little bit to be desired.
You make this gritty and it loses all of it's charm.
Every fucking game these days is "gritty", why the hell can't we have a charming game that doesn't take itself too seriously.
you know there are ways of introducing grit while still retaining charm.
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
just the game would become kinda psychopathic.

I think the art and style of the XCOM would make for a great Evil Genius Two. It's how I imagine multi-level bases to work. Also, check out around 35 minutes for an actual bunker, which certainly couldn't hurt.
Holy fuck, I'm playing this for the first time, and the amount of detail, and mechanies and everything is amazing, I can see this being a great time waster, considering I'm still playing it.
[editline]28th October 2012[/editline]
also how do you increase minion capcity, it's stuck at 12 for me.
