Battlewars just got updated:
i am part of the battlewars dev team
i'm taking my own measures to do this release, so stay tuned
I actually took the time to do a small review of triage on moddb.
This mod has some amount of technical prowess that saves its rating somewhat, like the seemingly improved, more agressive AI, though not used very well, it is noticeable.
A basic, and very well functioning inventory system that could be used to make a player consider his progression through rationalizing his options. though as it is, every weapon has mountains of readily available ammo that can be aquired constantly and easily. Making the entire inventory system pointless.
The mod represents the very epitome of misunderstanding everything that made half life 2 good. A sort of unholy merging of the timeless classic we know and love, and the baffling perpetuations of the "modern shooter" franchises.
Ironsights for instance, are fine, as long as they arent forced onto the gameplay, wich they very clearly are. Something the introduction smacked me in the head with. The lines were literally, "Youll look very badass hipfiring, but you wont hit anything". The statement to me being, "The design of this game is NOT to the sole purpose of making you have fun."
The addition of regenerating health is completely baffling to me, Serving to do nothing but desensitizing you to explore the maps looking for health and supplies, Reducing the gameplay to walking from shooting gallery to shooting gallery.
The maps are below par, and downright painful to look at. Several times it is completely nescessary for your progression that you navigate pitch black areas without a flashlight, giving you a very frustrating time of bumping around until you find an exit that was inches from your nose.
It is often completely unclear what direction youre even supposed to progress, with no visual cues.
The Voice acting is as often mentioned, Horrid. There is no emotional engagement, no sense of urgency to anything said. Its infinitely preferable that you find ways of avoiding voice acting completely if all the voice acting youll be able to produce is this destructive to the feel of the game.
3/10

I think i rated it too much in retrospect.
I manage to finish both parts of the citizen so ill give it an honest rating
with the poor beginning in the citizen part 1 it really does lose interest fast but you need to give a guy you borrowed a tv from back which is the first puzzle element here (i guess)
after meeting the chick she directs you to meet arthidickisuck (aka a really strange name prob russian) and he directs you to meet larry down the street in a garage so he gives you a keycard to go next door and there's also an alarm near the door, you press it, you gotta start over with the game because ur fuckd if you press that button
so larry (which is just a black citizen model with one of the voice actor's pitch lowered) redirects you to the sewers which is 1/2 times you can find a crowbar and the HEV suit (wtf)
after tedious gameplay you meet up with a cell in an auditorium and the game becomes a kill breen mission
it really is one of those mods you gotta play for yourself but in all honesty part 2 did have a pretty interesting ending for me but it could be a lot better
triage is still pretty shitty though
Dayhard for best hl2 mod

The Citizen has good intentions with somewhat disappointing payoffs. There's some really good parts (The casino in 2, as bizarre as it was, was really cool.) but it has a tendency to be bogged down by questionable design choices, choppy scripting and mapping, and very weird voice acting (Except for Phillip Marlowe, his voice is great.)
i honestly hated the casino part because of how it didnt fit in with the rest of the game that well and the invincible recolored grigori zombies that only die with a pulse orb
it didnt help how you had to press 5 buttons and avoid 3-4 of them in a cramp area also
Portal: Unity
When I was first playing it, I was like "hay, thats kind of crappy, I wonder if it is even finished, I would kind of expect it to just end like that"
It is finished
It even have bts areas
But right after the last test you enter the endless hell of poor mapping, ugly displacements, and ear-bleeding voice acting
I'm not even going to talk about the ending
on the note of portal mods: portal prelude. absolutely shite mod with shitty voice acting that basically projectile vomits and shits all over the canon of portal.

Pretty the voice acting was due to the creators not being able to speak english and they just used a program with automated voices.
doesn't excuse the downright idiocy of the final boss battle and some of the puzzles.
portal prelude was great. The puzzles were really challenging and the story wasn't all that bad, at the time it was a kind of plausible back story. It was all really polished, too.
I never realy liked the concept behind portal:prelude, but I need to admit that they nailed down the theme of pre-glados apearture perfectly. Even if the voice acting was kind of lame (most voice synthesators have built-in filters to simulate emotions, they didn't even used that) and the puzzles were mostly reflex-based, the feeling was avesome
And that final level where you can roam around in G-Labs section, something that was never seen in any portal mod, before or after
I also liked the bossfight music.
screw you guys
spiderman: source was AWESOME
City 14. Not even worth describing.
I liked day hard, maybe its just the voices and silly shit which is bscly the whole mod.
Shit, man. The worst ones I've played weren't worth remembering. It'd be like trying to remember a dog shit.

I wonder who allowed this broken piece of shit to be released.
Can we talk about unreleased mods? What about mods we made? Okay.

I think my work here is done. Now if only I could find this again.
Logistique. There is alot of issues. You don't get any weapons like a crowbar to start with, the flashback scene hurts you, and it is too easy to die.
Zombie Panic: Source. I can't remember much, but I just remember dying alot and turning into a useless zombie.
The Stanley Parable. It isn't really a BAD mod, but there just isn't anything too interesting to it. I have to admit though, the voice acting was great.
Missing Information. The version of it I have, takes a long time to load, you have to noclip the first part, and it is very short. It isn't too bad, but it is not worth the download time.
Depot. Takes forever to load. I never seemed to know where I was going. It is very easy to die, not because of hard enemies in small areas, but because I kept running from a Combine Gunship and kept falling into a #trigger_hurt.

why list it if you can't remember much of it?

Source Mods You Don't Like v2.
because mods arent BAD you just think they're bad which is totally different

That post was mainly directed at Smell. I should've made that more clear.
Put a quote there to reduce confusion.
Or maybe I genuinely said something stupid. No harm done, won't happen again.
Mistake of Pythagoras
I don't really know if there was some symbolism to it that was lost on me, but it's just boring to play, the maps look like shit and you get some weird ass telekinesis near the end, which seemingly activates at random.

it's a joke mod.
i liked MOP
Any mod that is so bad that is good?
I really need to get back to sampling Sourcemods, it's an interesting way to pass time.
Does anyone remember the name of this one mod, it was very similar to normal HL2 with the same weapons and enemies, and it mostly involved the airboat.
It had an official site that was really good, all clean and interactive. The main images seemed to involve a basin that looked a lot like the place you fight the chopper in HL2, and all in all it was presented unusually well.
Problem was, the first few maps where literally someone's first maps, and one of them was even impossible without noclip. Things like the first level starting in an apartment all very promising, but just around the corner a wall breaks and a single zombie walks out.
Then suddenly metropolice and a vent you can't really enter.
Does anyone else remember this? I'd love to try it again out of morbid curiosity, the change in quality near the end is so jarring.
Also whilst looking for it I remembered mods like City 7, and Coastline to Atmosphere, great stuff.
