I want to get this because I enjoyed ARMA 2 but I'm afraid that this has about the same level of optimization that 2 had which is near absolute zero. I managed to play ARMA 2 sucessfully at decent a decent framerate on high/med settings on 1280x720. I know that this is an alpha but is there any indication at all that they at least put some effort into making the game not a laggy mess even on high-end set ups?
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/25815/ Arma II: Complete Collection 20$ So what is Arma2 and why should I give a damn. I want to by it, should I, and why? Fucking around is fun, and I hear that game has tons of it.
Depending on how you play it or how it decides to be, either one of the best and most intricate military simulators ever made, or one of the most broken, meta, warped, and downright disturbing games ever produced.
Ignore the BR, Arma 2 is a semi-mil-sim game made by our gods at bohemia interactive. The modding community is huge and it can be one of the realistic warfare games with mods. fucking around is amazing in arma too with the editor and scripting.
generic tons of posts about bad frame-rate. bad computers I run it fine with a decent quad core and a 7850. [sp]get rated dumb by some kid with a $3000 comp that gets 10 fps[/sp]
It isn't bad computers, I have a quad core and a 5770. Multiplayer is legitimately broken for some people. It isn't an optimization issue, either. -CPUcount=4 fixed it for me, though.

So uh, anyone wanna explain why this happens?

I'm trying to find the perfect graphic layout for my computer. Been restarting the game for over 30 times now :v: REMEMBER: Some of these settings depends on which GPU, CPU, RAM you got. I recommend you too search these things I said on Google to find the best settings that suits your playstyle. Also, these are the diagnostics that are for "MOST" people. There will allways be someone that has no effect on! - The ArmA engine is one of the worst optimized engines in the history of gaming. This mean that you can even get better performance at ultra settings instead of low. - Most people are never using low, instead they're using standard. - Having auto-detecting might help you. - One of the major reasons to the lag and bad performance are the amount of NPCs. The ArmA NPCs are extremely advanced. If an NPC can hear you behind a wooden wall the NPC is trying to figure out if he can shoot through or not, imagine this when having a lot of NPCs! - Another major reason is that the ArmA engine is rendering everything at the same time. You know when you have entered an aera and players and their entities are spawning? Well in ArmA EVERYTHING keeps spawning in real-time even when you're not there. - ArmA 3 has the same issue like ArmA 2, if you're using alot of low, high, ultra settings it might go horrible on your performance. By putting all graphic options to the same might fix the whole game for you. - A few people gets better performance by using native resolution, and some gets better resolution by lowering it. - Also try to use the "Windowed fullscreen" option, might work better for you. Use Fraps or Bandicam to see your FPS in real-time! http://www.fraps.com/ http://www.bandicam.com/
Singleplayer > 60-85 FPS With tweaks: 65-85 FPS Singleplayer (Battle) > 55-67 FPS With tweaks: 60-70 FPS Multiplayer > 15-20 FPS With tweaks: 39- 50 FPS Multiplayer (Battle) > 8-15 FPS With tweaks: 30-45 FPS Ground Vehicle (SP) > 40-45 FPS With tweaks: 40-50 FPS Aircraft (SP) > 20-40 FPS With tweaks: 30-40 FPS
- Dedicated servers has more ability to configure it's server settings, it depends on the host what his connection and hardware is. Short term "50-50". - Listed server has less settings to reconfigure. I'm not so surw about listed server, will update when ready. - LAN is probably the best idéa especially when you're with 1-25 people. Also depends on the host's hardware but has more effect on gaining performance. Teamspeak reduced the FPS with 4-5 Mumble has not yet been tested NVIDIA (worth trying for ATI users as well) - Disabled Vsync gave me 60% performance boost - Forcing Vsync on ATI & Nvidia control panel has not yet been tested: Will update for further information - Pre-Rendered squares > 1 from "automatic" = No difference - Triple buffering > ON and OFF = No difference - Threaded optimization > ON and OFF = No difference - Ran as aministraitor = 10 FPS gained - XP or W7 mode (comp.) = No difference Startup parameters: -noSplash -cpuCount=8 -maxMem=6144 -high = Gained 20-30 FPS in MP and 10 FPS in SP Found a guide for the -cpucount and -maxMem made by EvilPip from battleguns.net THESE TWEAKS HAS HELPED MOST PEOPLE BE ABLE TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER
For AMD CPU users: AMD Dual Core with 4GB System Ram: -noSplash -cpuCount=2 AMD Quad Core with 4GB Ram: -noSplash -cpuCount=4 AMD Six Core with 4GB Ram: -noSplash -cpuCount=6 AMD Eight Core with 4GB Ram: -noSplash -cpuCount=8 If your running more than 8GB Ram then apply this to the end of the launch line: -maxMem=8192 This will allow your game to utilize 8GB system Ram instead of 4GB NEVER USE ALL YOUR RAM BECAUSE IT MIGHT CRASH, THE GAME OR YOUR PC For Intel users: For Hyperthreaded CPU's such as a Quad Core you will apply this: -cpuCount=8 This will enable your Hyperthreads on your CPU so your CPU will act as an eight core when running Arma 3. If you are running a Hyperthreaded Six Core then: -cpuCount=12 If you are running a Hyperthreaded Eight Core or Eight Core Xeon then apply this: -cpuCount=16 If you are running just a non Hyperthreaded CPU such as a Quad Core then select "4" instead of "8" same for a Dual Core you will select "2" instead of "4". All AMD CPU's are NOT Hyperthreaded so Hyperthreaded options is highly not recommended as this can cause system failure or damage. I will not be responible for system failure and damage if you choose to select more cores then you have on your command line!
Shadow resolution, overal distance +extra, object detail, post processing = Takes most performance Updated drivers, no success. Updated to a beta driver and no success. FUCKING PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY [editline]10th March 2013[/editline] I've also figured out that the ArmA engine are using the CPU power more than the GPU's. Edit: - Pre-Rendered squares in the Nvidia control panel should be set to 8 if it's possible for you. If you doesn't have the ability to set it to the value "8", you might want to try a lower one but I cannot garantue better performance if it's not 8. - Motion blur can make your aiming feel smoother but your eyes might hurt (depends on person). You can also sligthly increasse the mouse smoothment Usually no performance loss on Nvidia graphic cards, been reports for only 2 FPS in loss! The particle settings works like this when fireing on the ground: Low > low detailed smoke from the ground High > high detailed smoke from the ground Ultra > high detailed smoke from the ground + particles like dirt and tiny rocks fly out Anti-Aliasing Vs. SMAA? - SMAA is a cheaper way of Anti-Aliasing but can only take from 1-5 FPS and still looks good. - Remember: SMAA has no difference between low, high, ultra, etc by visuals or performance. - FXAA are not smoothing the edges (for some weird reason), it only makes your image sharper. - Anti-Aliasing has both yes & no performance lose. It all depends on your hardware. I recommend most people to use SMAA or 2x 4x Anti-Aliasing.
hey guys just finished my escape mission, 10 players, no weapons, time to run http://www.mediafire.com/?ja75nd313a2j21e if anyone cares, i've actually got some backstory to this (slightly inspired by Cuba during the cold war lol)
Opfor forces have begun a systematic killing of all citizens on Stratis. Blufor forces are currently unable to respond, as they have not been authorized to actively operate in the region. However, they have sent forces to the southern tip of the island to transport refugees who can make it alive.
i plan on making a series of missions off this story, the next being that opfor forces have seize the island, killed anyone who opposes, and begun setting up nuclear launch sites blufor forces still have not been allowed to actively operate in the region, so instead they've secretly trained surviving refugees and armed them and are going to send them back to the island to wreak havoc
as for my specs, how good will it run? Does squad XML work? Is it the same as arma 2?
as for my specs, how good will it run?
That is quite the CPU you got there... And who knows, people with high-end stuff are getting crap FPS when they shouldn't be.
You guys are going to love the next level of port-o-potty bombing just wait
as for my specs, how good will it run?
Your shit is old, except for the video card. It's really a crapshoot. You will probably be able to play because of how ARMA's graphical stuff works, but I really can't imagine your game running smoothly in 99% of situations. In short, it will probably run badly, but at the least you will be able to run it. -Don't blame me if it doesn't work-
Anyone know how to make NPC's patrol an area? I did it before a long time ago, but I seem to have forgotten.
Man I envy those who have 30 fps in firefights, if I go into towns its 14 fps, but the thing is. I'm already used to it
Are servers just crappy today? I keep losing connection to the host after every 10 minutes.
Is there any way to turn down Motion Blur without disabling Post-Processing?
Never tried a Wasteland server until now It's the stupidest thing...
Why? I quite enjoy it.

Only 4 days before the alpha-lite invites are available, can't wait. I want to make sure I can run the game before I buy it.
Only 4 days before the alpha-lite invites are available, can't wait. I want to make sure I can run the game before I buy it.
They come out on the 14th, not the 12th...
also, i'd hardly call stupid players and scripters server-dependent problems, but okay
