ARMA Series (I, II, III) - It's like the 4th of July!
Shitting on his post because he criticised the game is really stupid and childlike of a lot of you, he even listed the parts of the game he enjoyed.
I have to agree with him partially, and I can see where he is coming from. Its the future, the setting basically is like modern warfare only the uniforms are pretty different and not as visually interesting. I liked playing as units that actually exist/look alike in Arma 2. I'm not particularly pleased myself about that aspect of the game but Its not complete a turn off for me.
People will always say "well I want a different setting everything is modern nowadays!!!" yet scarcely anyone if at all would asking for a different time period had Bohemia not coined the idea.
He never said the game wasn't futuristic enough, he merely stated he didn't like the prospect of a future setting where things are hardly different.
And the Opfor visors are ugly as shit.
2035 is only about 20 years away from now. Take a look at warfare in the 90's and tell me it it's really much different from today's warfare.

It baffles me you can make the same misapprehension twice. I know that 2035 isn't much different. I was pointing out how little interest a setting that is the same as modern day but without authentic modern day uniforms is to me visually. And no that does not mean I am talking about modern styles of uniform in general.
I'd much rather either have a game set in modern day with authentic uniforms and weapons or a game set in the future where technology has progressed greatly (maybe even to the point with laserbeams, who knows) than play the middle ground. Not that I'd really dig the idea of a very futuristic Arma.
I'll be waiting on mods to add modern units and armies instead.
Overly futuristic ArmA would be dumb.
The game is essentially a mil-sim.

even if you buy arma 3 alpha from steam instead of the bohemia store, you still get the lite invites on the 14th?

Right.
wasteland is bad and anyone playing it should feel bad
You'd get pretty good performance as long as you're willing to put some graphical settings down a bit.
The CPU should be plenty for handling large amounts of NPCs, but use the startup commands posted earlier to utilize all 8 cores.
My 5770 can take the game on high (FXAA, 8x AA), very high (practically every other setting besides Post Processing since I don't like it), and ultra (for clouds and particles) in stride.
You don't need to put the settings down at all.
Not to mention his processor is leagues ahead of mine.

Maybe if every server that isn't wasteland didn't have a stick up their ass about joining some fucking TS server full of twelve year olds and russians, other servers would get more players.

I'm not saying other servers are better. Im saying playing with your own group of friends and not some 12 year old russians on your own server is a lot more fun and true to the arma series IMO
I found a problem that my MB supports only PCIe 1.0 not 2.0, so i ordered a new MB a.k.a i am maxing out my GPU power by x2
I'm not saying other servers are better. Im saying playing with your own group of friends and not some 12 year old russians on your own server is a lot more fun and true to the arma series IMO
Implying you have to be true to the ArmA series to enjoy the game.
the problems with arma 3 wasteland at the moment:
• lack of content in arma 3 - this is going to end up not being a problem as BI release more stuff
• performance - servers are pretty poor but yet again I'm guessing we can blame the alpha status
• players - wasteland players seem to have inhaled some serious autism spores this is the way things are
it should be pretty similar to arma 2 wasteland by arma 3's release

Strange, my 5850s can't.
hey guys just finished my escape mission, 10 players, no weapons, time to run
http://www.mediafire.com/?ja75nd313a2j21e
if anyone cares, i've actually got some backstory to this (slightly inspired by Cuba during the cold war lol)
i plan on making a series of missions off this story, the next being that opfor forces have seize the island, killed anyone who opposes, and begun setting up nuclear launch sites
blufor forces still have not been allowed to actively operate in the region, so instead they've secretly trained surviving refugees and armed them and are going to send them back to the island to wreak havoc
im gonna host this

Who even plays public servers? Last time I checked they were fucking terrible.

I'll join, provided the server is still up. I don't have a working mic at the moment though.

But ArmA III isn't centred around conventional warfare.
I mean, if you compare the 90s to today with all the digitisation and drone-ification that has gone on over the last couple of decades.
Wasteland is a waste of time.

Uh, the '90s were different from today, that's a silly comparison for the point you want to make. As time goes on the availability of precision in all fields of combat and manufacturing increases. It's not completely different, the '90s to the 2010s, the 2010s to the 2030s, but you can't argue that they're the same. That comparison also doesn't take into account the exponential gains technology makes as time goes on.
Man that scuba gun sucks.
I had a better chance surviving using pistols than that gun
You need to switch ammo for different scenarios
Dual Purpose(which is misnamed, it's only effective underwater) for underwater(shooting from underwater or at underwater targets)
or Stanag which is normal ammo that is accurate up to 300m~ like most weapons.
The whole point of the ArmA series is that it is grounded in reality. If BI started introducing things that don't exist on any meaningful level then I wouldn't have bought it.
If ArmA 3 was any more technologically advanced I would have bought it.

I know, I just didn't quite know how to word that so I left that out hoping it'd be figureable.
Why yes?
[editline]o[/editline]
Ah, it does.
They talked about it in almost all of the preview videos, so I was just suprised that you didn't know at all.
I keep seeing a Facepunch server with 10 slots with password.
Is it private or do you allow people to enter?
