It's pretty dumb. The whole thing is just "let's compare a little side activity that's completely optional and is there just to add more to the immersion and add character development to an activity that's something you have to do in order to progress trough the game". No shit the first one won't be as fun, it's not fucking supposed to.
Games need side activities though.
You pretty much have to play them unless you want to get bored of just doing campaign all the time.
