My PS3 got YLOD today. Shit sucks, especially losing all your save games. However I found something on Youtube called the Hair dryer method which is that you blow a hair dryer into the back of the PS3 for 15 minutes until it becomes REALLY hot and then you let it cool. To my surprise it really worked! I am now copying save data to a USB stick because it is said that this is only a temporary solution and I take no chances. I think I'm going to pick up a Slim in the near future though. If somone has YLOD, give it a try! There is nothing to lose really. Edit: Unless you have warrenty or want to repair it that is.

Just figured out that PS+ isn't even avaliable in my region. That explains why I couldn't see it in the welcome back programme
I'm pretty certain I've had over 30 days of Playstation Plus now but it's still there, I'm not complaining it's nice.

It's similar to the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death. You overheat it to make it bring up one error instead of another. The only way this is helpful is to backup saves and other information. After that it's dead for good.

It is in now way healthy for a console, but it does create a temporary fix, or can cause more damage if you do it incorrectly. It isn't worth the risk under warranty, but outside of warranty, you really have nothing to lose from trying it.
My console was pretty much dead anyways and sending it to repair was not really worth is because for just a little bit extra I would get a slim with a lot more HDD space (last one was 40GB) and I would not have to listen to the broken fan that is stuck at highest capacity. Yeah I didn't really think that last thing through, I updated the post. Guess I got a bit to excited to get my save files back, sorry. You exaggerate a bit though. People have used this to get a couple of month of extra life into their console and after that they do it again to get another couple of months. Other people might only get a week but it's still more useful then a red blinking brick. In my case though I only wanted the data.
Does the Slim models have problems with the YLOD?
How do you backup saves on a ps3? Doesn't the USB stick have to be huge to carry both game data and saves? My 40GB sounds like it's on its last legs.
It's not just single saves I think. It's everything
I believe you put yourself at more YLOD risk if you get a slim, much like the PS2 disk read error (PS2 SLIM EXCLUSIVE CONTENT)

However when i get the new one there is a feature where you plug your old and new PS3 together using ethernet and you copy everything over so it becomes like it was before.
Couldn't you just put the old hd in the next console, back it up and restore it with the new hd?
Couldn't you just put the old hd in the next console, back it up and restore it with the new hd?
You can't use a HDD from another PS3 in a new one at all. it forces you to format the old HDD.
Which really sucks.
Is there anyone here who plays MAG on the Raven faction? Looking for some experienced players (with mics) to play with. Also, the amount of drama going on between Raven and SVER is hilarious. The guys on Raven are bitching about SVER being glitchers, and SVER people are complaining about Raven being OP. I heard that drama for 15 queues straight.

They always seem to lose when either faction plays against them.

At Raven we have our fair share of Rambos, and SVER seems to be a shitload of glitchers (Ahem, clipping through a wall halfway and picking off people, whilst being immune to gunfire thanks to the wall.) [editline]15th July 2011[/editline] Just a quick question about MAG, are those helicopters player piloted, or are they just spawn points like the LALO plane? I am assuming the latter, as most players on consoles tend to be incompetent about Helicopter physics, and try to kamikaze infantry, whilst these helicopters look like they have a decent pilot in them that knows how to stop properly.

I've never seen any SVER players glitching, maybe they follow you round. I find that the SVER players just cooperate more. Also the helicopters are spawn points, there are machine guns which can be manned on the helicopters but we're too retarded to fly them.
Just got a new PS3, anyone know how I can jailbreak it? Or is it illegal to do so?
Just got a new PS3, anyone know how I can jailbreak it? Or is it illegal to do so?
That's a rather silly question to ask don't you think? It's a ban-able offence to talk about warez, which jailbreaking pretty much is.

Just got SOCOM 4.
Does anyone know if Infamous 2 is good/worth getting? I played the first one a year ago, and I loved it. I looked at some gameplay features and trailers that look promising, but really I want a few opinions from people that have played it.

rented shadows of the damned. Pretty decent, just short which I was expecting and mainly the reason I rented in the first place.

They are very similar but not in a bad way. I'm just glad I can run around and feel like a badass, especially with the new amp. It makes melee combat really addictive.
Got SOCOM 4. Played the singleplayer until the first stealth mission, couldn't get passed it. I got missed off then went to try out Co-op. Couldn't connect to the game universe. Waste of $45.
Also, is there a movies section in PSN? Sorry for sounding dumb, very new here.
G-foxisus - Botervloot I'm currently into Marvel vs Capcom 3
