I found some examples of the great traffic system while making my single avenue city.
Guys guys guys, Test server has leaderboards and regional challanges.
also, the lead scripter uploaded this just now: thank god they are trying to fix this at least
also, the lead scripter uploaded this just now: thank god they are trying to fix this at least
But here's the big question! Why doesn't it function like this in the first place?
But here's the big question! Why doesn't it function like this in the first place?
Yeah it seems like it's an issue that should have been noticed. It must have been rushed.
He is fixing it.
I think this picture sums up the problems with simcity quite well. looks but no substance.
I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at... The city is pretty much a grid with no special looks and besides it has a population of 250k. Or something about the game itself?
I'm going to create a region on the test region for facepunch to see if we can get on the leaderboards. Add me, beyondsolid, on origin to get an invite.
He is fixing it.
While we appreciated that, it still doesn't make up for the fact that they shipped the game like this. Which is unfuckingexceptable. You can't just take this and say, "well they are fixing it now, so all is forgiven!" because that just tells them that they can easily get away with shipping a broken game by "fixing it later." That's not what we need. We need to be critical of these things, even after they have been fixed, that way they take more care to get their shit together BEFORE the game comes out.
He is fixing it.
we ran into problems with it almost immediately but they had a number of years to work on the game. How do you miss something so blatantly wrong from a player's perspective for so long and only NOW begin fixing it? The answer is pretty simple, as Scot said, they rushed it and it didn't go through enough play testing. hell it doesn't seem like it had any at all, and if it was, it was mostly done by the Dev team themselves in almost a complete vacuum with only with the goal of making sure it actually runs and functions correctly (they also failed hysterically on that last bit because they didn't do Stress testing) This is WHY you do Play Testing with people OTHER than the Dev team.

Or something about the game itself?
Well let's have a look. Notice not what's in the city, but what's around it, Nothing. The City just ENDS at an EXACT point and the outside of this boundary is completely barren. What you are looking at is not a City, It is a Picture of a City it has what LOOKS like a city inside a border outside of which nothing exists, not an actual representation of a City but what one LOOKS like, lacking the depth that would make it an actual city and not merely an image of one. This is why I said earlier that an Artist had control of this game, because an Artist is only concerned with what it LOOKS like. that's were Simcity fails, it wants to look like a City and not actually be one.
i had some hopes for this and well wanted to get it but since ( venezuela ! ) im limited to 400$ per YEAR on online shopping it doesnt look like the case
Enjoy your socialism. LOL
the game is 9 days old and i still cannot play my singleplayer game
its never coming.
Can't wait to see how the dynamics of cities change when the traffic problems get fixed.
the game is 9 days old and i still cannot play my singleplayer game
Are you in the wrong thread? You know that Sim City is a multiplayer game right? Or are you trying to be cheeky and say that, just because past Sim City titles were singleplayer, this one is too?
can I get an invite to some sort of sim city region? xain666
Once my city has enough utilities and services I am struggling to find things to do.
Jesus christ people its like you guys forgotten what simcity is What do you do in any other simcity once you've mastered your city? make another one Which is arguably more entertaining in this one because city styles/types you can make are totally different now, where before you'd pretty much always be making a city that would turn into a big city. Of course older games had a nice edge of playing on more varying terrain you could terraform so you could make believe your city being in a wide variety of enviornments/situations but still It's like half the playerbase of sim city since the 10ish years the last one came out all turned into the type of people that constantly need some kind of carrot on the stick to keep going. Sim city was never about "end game" its just having fun making a city, creating an idealized city, creating a backwater town, making a suburbia heaven, making NYC v2.0, etc. The challenge was always getting your city to be where you wanted to be then kind of admiring it, getting lost in it, and just letting it run or run itself into the ground. Or just do what everyone did and unleash all sorts of disasters on it as you play god before starting a new one. And even then you have great works now, which weren't even a real option before. This isn't any different. The only real difference is that you can get to the end a little bit quicker thanks to the smaller plot sizes and the fact that the sims are willing to move into anywhere even without utilities (but they'll leave if they don't get them, where before it was harder to get them to come in and stay). It's a good thing you can make your city be many different things now! The only thing I honestly don't like about the overall metagame of this new simcity versus old ones (other than the obvious having no option of bigger city sizes, because that would just be fun to play around with even if I don't want EVERY city I make to be super big), is the fact that your economy is so reliant on industry/exports now in order to make money. I love the economy they put into this game but its definatly "OP" in the sense that if you want to do anything involving money you need to be doing trade and have so much industry that your population explodes. Without huge industry or huge resources, you are pretty much garunteed screwed at make any money and having a big enough population to grow into a big city. [editline]15th March 2013[/editline]
the game is 9 days old and i still cannot play my singleplayer game
How why
You know, I was thinking. What if they made it so the default map size was what it's at now, but as you expanded you had the option to buy new "districts" for say, a few hundred grand. Except the districts are not perfectly shaped or form a nice big square like previous Sim City titles, but rather varying sizes of land on the outskirts of your city that you could cordon off and purchase for X price. Look at any map of a real city and you'll see its never square. They buy more land as its needed for zoning. Need to add on to your industry but don't want to tear down parts of your city? Buy a few hundred thousand acres next to it. Just look at Houston, Texas: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1Ng99WG.jpg[/img_thumb] Started out relatively square like a Sim City map in 1836, but grew more odd shaped as they needed more land to fit their needs. This would also get rid of the weird look of having your city just be a square of tall buildings. You'd be able to have suburbs as you wished. As someones giant city begins to encroach on another smaller city, that city would become a satellite city of the big city. Similar to how most big cities have hundreds of smaller cities surrounding them. It's a mutual bond between cities, although the smaller city would not be able to expand much as the big city will occupy much of the space around it. With this system you'd also be able to put chunks of your city up on auction for the satellite cities around you. Would give you a quick buck in financial crisis, and alter your RCI demands, as well as give the smaller city more stuff to work with. (or completely buy the smaller cities surrounding you if their mayor agrees to sell it and start new somewhere else) Sound like a good idea?

We lack any decent public transportation beyond buses and our road setup is ass. Please don't model your city on Houston. :v Here's our 'loops' AKA roads that go around the city. Look at the little map in the upper right. The inner 2 are current, the furthest out is currently being made. Can I join anyone's region? I'm bored.
Jesus christ people its like you guys forgotten what simcity is What do you do in any other simcity once you've mastered your city? make another one
but the process of making a city, reaching it's logical conclusion, and then going off and starting a new one, is hyper accelerated. It's like I'm playing a Demo, you can go X far into the game and then stop and restart the demo and play it again. except it's not a demo, it's just the game empties itself out and there's nothing left to do with that city and what you're left staring at is a square full of skyscrapers.
