• KEYPAD: The Amazing Alternative to WASD

I really can't see any advantages to this. I can see a lot of potential problems with games that have loads of controls. Not to mention the whole strafe-jumping thing. Plus, I'm not left-handed, so I'd have to either buy a USB keypad or it would be a major pain in the ass (my desk has one of those slide-out trays where the keyboard sits so "moving it to the left" isn't an option).
I would personally use this with 0 for jump and . for crouch, enter for use, 7/9 for lean, 1/3 for grenades perhaps. That's all the essentials covered I think, with minimal movement (strafe left/right to lean left/right or grenades, thumb naturally rests on . or in between . and 0 so that's fine, and sprint is fine on mouse3 or even / since I can hold that and 8 easily) That is, if I ever played any FPS games. Which I don't. Point is moot. Oh, and where my keyboard would go if I were doing this is currently covered with LEGO. I had a USB keypad but I lost it.
Actual amazing alternative to WSAD: ESDF. More keys around the 4 for more bindable actions :>. Used in the old old days as the default by a few games. :)
I use RDFG in WoW. And pretty much all numbers and letters around that area to cast spells. Very efficient.
Sorry OP I don't have tiny delicate fingers like you.
Ill try this the next time I play a FPS OP.
I already use some of the keypad 1 - Use 0 - Jump 4 - Lean left 6 - Lean right Everything else - Misc
I remember when I used to use the arrow keys for games. Then I switched over to WASD and everything was so much easier.
Using anything that isn't laid out in the nice WASD way induces hand pain after a short while for me
I dare anyone to play Super Meat Boy with one. I doubt it is possible.
That setup would deform my hand.
My keyboard is designed for WASD. By doing so I run into keypress conflicts elsewhere - GIRP is impossible. Also on the Windows key, this keyboard has a switch for that, a "game toggle". I forget to use it because I never accidentally press it :v:
I dare somebody to complete HL1 with this setup: A - Move forward Q - Move backwards F - Move right S - Move left 1 - Jump 2-9 - Weapons C - Switch to last weapon maximum awkward
Eh. Only use the keypad if a game has some flight/helicopter mechanics in it. + to pitch up, - to pitch down etc. It's a matter of personal choice, most gamers will stick with the WASD layout simply because it's what they're used to Although I do miss the ESDF layout
tried EDSF layout for UT3 today. Worked flawleslly. Only problem is, my hands are resting on wsad even when I'm not playing, and when I have to type something, everything I write is off by one letter.
The only rational purpose of keypad is convenient numbers typing for me. Also for pressing Enter while I hold the mouse.
why would one need another keyboard to press keys we all have on the common keyboard? WASD for life.
Q - Forward ? - Backward } - Strafe Left 5- Strafe Right Ctrl + ] + k - Fire Yeah, that's awesome/
Arrow keys is what I use. It's like the brother to keypad.
What a waste of money.
Meh, using the keypad is ok if you have a womans tiny , dainty hands. Far too small of an area for me to use for gaming, WASD is just positioned too damn well for me to switch to anything else, I mean it just puts your hand in the best position to use the space bar and ctrl everything so crouching and jumping in games is more intuitive and doesn't require remapping of keys. Oh fuck, page king content :
I just use the standard settings most times.
I thought my dad and I were the only ones who used arrow keys.
I saw the smallest mouse i've ever seen in PC World the other week, i swear it was like the size of two AA Batteries side by side. I meant nowadays.
Oh i always used to use Arrow Keys, WASD was annoying for me but i was out of the gaming thing for a while so when i got back into it i started using WASD instead of Arrow Keys.
I hate games that don't let you set your own configs or are limited (fuck you Minecraft and Halo 2, let me bind jump to MMB)
Bunny hopping.
Bunny hopping.
Nah, I wouldn't even use that if I had WASD
I can't wrap my mind around playing any sort of FPS with the arrow keys. :psyduck: HOW
