I don't even understand, you know what...
I'll install the free weekend SH and see if I can run it too.
I'm not switching to windows 7...
Your loss.
Your loss.
I'll get it when games take more advantage of DX11.

How could it take any more advantage of DX11. It either does or doesn't, and it does. That's a stupid thing to say, you're just trying to convince yourself of reasons not to get it.

I saw it was in my steam game list and i didnt know what it was so I dl'd it and played it for a bit, It runs pretty crappy and I had to turn the settings down to minimum but I was able to play a few games on that one level thats just a long string of rocks.

And I seem to have many, many reasons. I'm fine with XP for now and that's that.

Doesn't work for me.
You won't need to touch anything on your alternate drives. Just your main Hard Drive
Surely the registries are on the main drive for programs on all drives? Or is that all carried over in the XP-7 upgrade option?
But anyway, this is probably a bit off topic, so I'll probably just make a thread in Hardware and Software closer to when I really need to upgrade.
My friend said this game is pretty decent, but it only has one gun and about... 3 maps or something?
Even if you download that DX10 for XP thing, Shattered horizons does not support XP
I hate CRTs! I can see them REFRESH FOR CHRISTS SAKE! I can't see anything wrong with just getting windows 7 if you want to play DX10 games JUST GET FUCKING 7, it's like 100,000,000,000,000 better. Yes it is one-hundred-trillion times better than XP.
Its also 100$.
and lcd's are expensive

Lies. They aren't that much different in price.

No they're not. I'd pay $30 more for something that isn't obsolete.

One gun, two modes of fire, three grenade types, eight maps (four being new from the Moonrise release).
From what I know the developer is running this game kinda like how they did with ArmA 2. Letting the community playtest it and add things as they go. I'm assuming more guns will be added soon enough.
What's this? An OS check? DX10 seemed to install fine, both from the steam first time setup and the 3rd party DX10 install...
But it's basically saying I can't play it because I don't have Vista or Windows 7?
I didn't really get my hopes up, but that's kinda wierd IMO. I expected it to fail on startup, not because steam doesn't want to let me play it because I don't have Vista/W7.
Yeah, just cause it that picture from the site for some reason is using Vista or maybe a skin of it means you can't get a early version of DirectX 10 that still had backwards compatibility. In fact you don't even need a god damn installer to register the DirectX 10 dlls.

It is not possible to use DirectX10 on XP, and it never will be. The current 'DX10 for XP' installers just make DX9 appear as DX10 in DXDiag.
Upgrade to Vista/Seven, or get further left in the dust.
Seriously? They're totally leaving us XP users behind. I've been waiting for this game for a while, just today I figured out it only ran off DX10, and thus XP isn't supported.
Yes I realize I'm late but this fucking pissed me off.
What's XP?
Is that a mod for Windows 7?

Windows eXPerience. It's an old copy of Windows designed for poor, smelly hippies.
There's a few museums that still have copies if you want to see it.

You shouldn't have posted this in a forum. You are a retard.
Exactly. It's not their fault that people are autistic when it comes to what OS they use. "I won't upgrade because I don't like CHAAAANGE!"
For example, one of my friends is STILL sitting with an old CRT monitor because LCD's are "bad" for no reason.
Although, Most CRTS have fantastic colour compared to most modern LCD's, since they don't use background lighting like LCD screens. I'd be using my CRT now if it wasn't flashing blue and green at me.

Obsolete? Do explain, sure they're big as fucking hell, but they have great colour and image.
I'm holding out on Windows 7 simply because I use alot of really old programs and having tried them on a few machines with varying versions of 7, none of them work with it. They do however work with my Vista though.
Having said that, SH isn't a game to get upset over.
I'm still running on XP, only because I have just 1Gb of RAM. Which is terrible, I know, but I'd rather save more cash to build an entirely new rig and have 7 on that, then spend a few bucks for an extra gigabyte and keep the shitty processor.
Some say 7 runs fine on my 1.8ghz dual core with 1gb ram, and some say it won't. So far I haven't been motivated enough to take my chance.

Stuff like this always happens, like when games started not supporting Windows 98 and a few people got angry because they didn't have XP. You have to face the facts that technology is growing, and you should grow with it. Keep with the times, buy windows 7 and enjoy the DX 10 fun. If you don't want to do that then don't, but in a few years you'll be pretty much forced to when EVERYTHING is DX 10.

As far as I'm aware, if your PC will run XP, it should run Windows 7 at a similar level.

That doesn't seem to make sense, anything that works on Vista SHOULD work on 7 unless you go for 64 bit and try running 16 bit games on it. I think the professional version has an XP mode that makes programs like that work anyway.

Maybe it's not letting you start it because they know damn well that it probably won't work. If they let people try it, there'd be a flood of "Why do you let us do it if it won't work" complaints. They can't win.

I bought a LCD when my old CRT died, and instantly loved it. I thought it would be worse, but I was mistaken.

I have to admit, I'd still be using my CRT if it wasn't flickering like a bitch and losing brightness.
This is a very important detail. Want to have support for XP and Direct X9 apps? You will have to buy a version of Win7 that comes with support for that, and yes, only the more expensive versions have that support. So what this dipshit really means to say is "If you don't mind all of your shit not working with windows 7, just buy the cheaper version".
Erm, everything that I've tried running on 7 so far has worked perfectly fine with no problems, all my old stuff still works and stuff that came out for windows 98 even works fine. It's only really old shit that doesn't work, and that stuff is so old that it probably needs upgrading too.
you're just lucky this didn't happen in 06. then your com would be entering a truckpulling competition by it's dick.
It's funny.
Shattered Horizon runs worse than Crysis, and looks worse than Crysis
and I'm talking Crysis in DX9.
