Because he's amazingly good in literally every lane except AD Carry right now.
Top, Jungle, Mid, Support.
He does it all very well, honestly. He's either OP or probably the easiest champion in existence. He's also pretty fun.
They must have buffed him since I last played, then. Last time I checked he was only a support. Top was a troll pick and jungle was unheard of.

The funniest thing happened in a league match today.
The enemy Malphite decided that it was a good idea to take top turret alone at 30 minutes in. As a fed, fully stacked Battlecast Prime Cho'Gath, I come from behind, start spamming taunt, and watch him use his ult and flash to try and get away. That wouldn't be enough, as he gets caught by my team and I eat him.

no you got it wrong
taric loses 10/15/20/25/30 armor HIMSELF when using it, the aura still works on cd, its weaker by 1,2/1,8/2,4/3/3,6 when on cd tho
I don't know thresh's scaling but he seems like he has the kit and potential to play as an ad bruiser...
