I personally really like the idea of owning my own piece of property in the FP city. I will make couches, beds, windows, lofts, decorate it with pictures, tables, cabinets, and whatever Notch adds. I will also put secret rooms in there where I will keep my valuables (IE. gold, diamond, rare blocks)

My game froze after a crazy fight with a spider, so I restarted. I spawn and I'm instantly attacked by the same spider I just killed, I get knocked into lava. I lost a diamond, a ton of iron, and some thermite.

Hopefully Notch will implement more features that can be added to a house/castle. So far you're right there's only few amenities that can be added to a house, and don't even require the space of a house. So hopefully in the future Notch will add some cool things.

There was a form of protection on servers before, the class system. Random people were not allowed to modify blocks unless allowed by a server operator.
Or only trusted people can join a private server.

the essentials and a few electrical lights "if they come out".
What I really want is a "Bed" craftable which when placed you have a choice to set as your spawn point, and also the ability to use it which skips time to either dawn or dusk (Whichever is next)

That's creative though. I don't even think Notch has a plan for that in Survival MP. Of course he will for other MP modes, but I really doubt he will for SMP.
