Im seriously starting to regret buying minecraft. It is an awesome game but if only it would fudging work! ive been getting the java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: input == null! Error for a week now and even notch wont answer aboot it.

I think hi-res packs can look good, we just don't have a really amazing one yet. SMP is working on one on SA that's looking really good.

You can extend the length. Just use a block with a red torch on the opposite side to extend it another 15. This will also invert the value, so you might want to use two in a row.

Have you tried uninstalling/re-installing java? Have you updated java? Have you deleted minecraft.jar and ran the client to re-download it? Try these before you ask again.

Ok, here's a step by step list of shit you need to do:
Right click --> save as on the tileset in your browser.
Rename the file you just saved to "terrain" (no quotes)
Go to %appdata%\roaming\.minecraft\bin\ and right click ---> open with ---> winRAR archiver on minecraft.jar
DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN WINRAR FOR NOW
drag the terrain.png you downloaded in to the winRAR window
click OK on the dialog that comes up
close the winRAR window
run minecraft.exe (the client launcher)
play the god damn game
