Argh, just went to purchase this today. Apparently Metro 2033 is suddenly unavailable on Steam in the UK
Went to my book store to see if they have it, turns out they won't be getting it till November.
Looks like I'll have to order it online.

In the upcoming DLC they should include a character like this.
wait...is this on the PS3? :C (dont rage at me or anything)
I think it's 360 and PC only.
What the fuck? MILLER?
His name is
MELNIK!
I hate how they translated so much in the game.
People will always be social, everyone in metro 2033 has gotten used to the situation, it's grim but it doesn't change, so basically they sort of adapted and can live their lives.
Doesn't mean those lives are long though.
Its just that I know it different from the book now. In the book the metro is almost empty and the tunnels are described as wide and empty, yet totally dark.
The stations in the book are not that packed and there is so much LIGHT in the game. In the book, only the rich colonies of the Hansa, the Polis and a few richer stations have real lights.
Wystawka dostischenji narodnogo chosjajstwa SSSR ( WDNCh, Artjoms station) is described as only lit by red lights so dark, Artjom has problems looking at real lights.

Also the Nazis wouldn't shoot him. That would be wasting bullets.

There has to be a reason why it's different from a book, most likely for design. I would get tired of looking at dark tunnels all the time. Although, it would be interesting if they balanced the game between going outside, where there is natural diffused light, and the tunnels lit by the dark red lights.
I guess its for imersion or whatever.
I am just a little sad that the game rather looks like someone skipped through the book and made a checklist of what to have in the game rather than trying to understand it as a whole concept.
Um, name one game based on a book that followed the story exactly.

World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft
Should've added linear to my post.

phail.... it's not based on a book phailmaster 3000
Finally got to play it. It is qite amazing but much unlike the book.
In the book, the metro isn't much of a closed and tight place but more just empty.
Also wood is decribed as one of the most valuable ressources, in the game it's everywhere. The people are much tio talkative for my taste but meh.
The book itself is full of philosophy, not horror. The real horror comes from the loneliness and the desperate situation of humanity and the dreams he has. The game fails at that a bit since most of its horror comes from the creepy souraoundings.
It's still amazing but not what I thought it would be since I read the book first.
How philosophical is it?
:smug: I really enjoyed playing this game.
Fuck I really loved this game but I finished it completely in 1 day. I want more :frown:
The ending was a little meh though. I expected something more intense
Just played it, Bourbon is fucking badass.
Bourbon is an asshole in the book.
[sp]Artjom actually loses him between Alexejwskaja and Rischskaja due to insanity.[/sp]
And to answer the guys aboves question: Very philosophical.
I'd say half of the book is reflections and discussions about the metro, the role hunamity lost, the value of the earth and all the other thoughts that come with surviving a nuklear war in the biggest bunker of the world for 30 years.
If only it wasn't so short
This game feels a bit too creepy for my tastes.
My 4 year old PC forces me to play it on middle. I feel like I'm missing out :(

Heck, the game looks good on low, you're not missing out something major.
Anyone notice those Metro 2033 shirts? There's been a few competitions to get them however all of them closed, they look rad.
I'm currently reading the book online. Fantastic stuff.
Does anyone hate the inconsistency of Artyom's speaking? He always talks inside the chapter loading screens but inside the game, he NEVER talks at all. All he does is make grunts when he gets shot or then uses a medkit. And then out of nowhere, he decides to say FUCK! at the end of the cart ride and you wonder why he was mute the whole time before.
Just out of curiosity.. would you guys say get this game? I saw it when I went to game stop.. I didn't have quite enough for it but as spring is rolling in and I'll be cutting the grass.. I will get some money.. I'm considering getting it but I'm curious what others thought/think about it.

It is a very very good game, but like the above user said, I would definitely wait till the price is reduced. It's very linear and not that long.
So. How long until the game's data files are cracked? (Mods)
Also, is there a soundtrack or anything of the like released yet?

Even if you could mod Metro 2033, I don't see much modding potential for it.
