it's honestly offensive how unfinished this game is despite being sold for $20 on steam.
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
only reason i have it is because of the humble indie bundle. i'd never pay money for this. i've seen freeware with more polish and a timely release schedule.
i can't believe how the game introduces itself, either. when you hit "start campaign" it basically says "we're calling this 1.0 and charging you $20 despite this game being nowhere near finished, LOL THX FOR THE MONEY"
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
oh and the icing on the cake. i tried to take a screenshot of the text that mentioned how it was unfinished despite being 1.0, and realized the steam overlay wouldn't even work.
I kind of agree with you, the only redeeming factor is playing this game with friends. It instantly becomes a rather unique experience.

To be fair, the overlay doesn't work for quite a few games (at least ones that I've come across)

I agree. He shouldnt have released it as it is now, no matter how much I love the game. He should have worked for it a couple of more years, and then it would perhaps be adequate for a full release
To be fair, the overlay doesn't work for quite a few games (at least ones that I've come across)
Dredmor just very recently got overlay support with the wizardlands version.
I think one major thing this game needs right now is to be more clear. Even just some text that pops up over your cursor to further define what everything does would be awesome. I can learn it all real quick but it's tedious to click everything and go through it all once just to know what I can do. The game itself is alright in my eyes- could use work but I enjoy it enough to not care so much. The second thing needed is streamlining, a less boring, spreadsheet-esque build menu for starters and a more properly organized start menu. I expected a campaign like in any other videogame (the main story, linear) not kind of a war game do-it-yourself, that should be called a skirmish or a new term you guys think up and save "Campaign" for the real deal when the time comes (you had like two missions named as the campaign in earlier builds which I guess got moved to another tab). Then put all the mini missions and 'mutator' levels into their own tab called "Custom Match" with a tab for premades like what we have now and a mission editor tab and a third tab for cookie cutter missions with randomly generated maps with slideable buttons to set time (I hate the static 300 seconds more than anything else, honestly), map size, difficulty, gold, terrain type, and anything else I can't think of right now.
Also the ancient desire for water, some day...

How is it not polished? The only unpolished part is the stability.
Serious problem with the meta-game when you near an end-game scenario. If you're out of brains, and so is the enemy, the game can't end.
You need to be able to abandon a base to use that brain to attack.
You can?
Dredmor just very recently got overlay support with the wizardlands version.
Dredmor had overlay since it's initial release, you just had to use the -opengl command. They broke it later, tho.
Feature yet to be added, will propose cease fire to enemy.
We haven't really talked a lot about it, dunno what Data intends for it to do other than for you and an AI to treat eachother as friends.
Could be useful for 1v1v1 battles though.
are physics done on the gpu or the cpu
are physics done on the gpu or the cpu
100% CPU... it could be so much faster.

>a couple more years
Or he could have just actually worked on the game for another like month instead of sit behind the game knowing people will still buy it in any state just because it's an original idea, then keep people thinking the game is still being worked on by releasing a new faction or super simple unfinished idea into the game.
On another note, anyone find any new working mods worth while or anything?
Data's been working on the game for god knows how long, i'd wager he's too burned out to ever consider making it multithreaded and GPU-physics compatible. A shame, but to be expected.

Oh sweet, I thought it did but wasn't sure and wasn't in the mood to download a bunch and find out it was all for not hahah
The reason it was released on steam is not because it was deemed 'final', but because we'd already decided on releasing 1.0 when the metagame is done (although a few bugs have popped up, Dan's working on them at the point of me writing this.)
Any plans of adding new units like dreadnauts for coalition/other factions.
Also a few faction based dropships would be nice, The techions units are amazing but for their tech they don't really have any machinery besides 2 units.
Yeah, more content is a given.

I think it's funny how the game maxes out the cpu core i assign to it, even just sitting in the menu.

Indeed, when there's a perfectly capable graphics card with hundreds of cores perfectly suited for the task in most peoples computers.

Not to mention the fact that holy shit how much they're faster than CPUs.
Not to mention the fact that holy shit how much they're faster than CPUs.
Well yeah as a group they are, but each one is many times slower than what the CPU is at singular tasks. Would be good for physics though.
Is there a way to enable friendly fire? The game is not as fun without it
Also,Tartaurus is probably the best single player mission I played, and it got a 1.0 update
It needs a massive reduction for price. I'd pay 5-10 bucks for the game as is
for A in MovableMan.Actors do A.IgnoresTeamHits = false end
For disabling friendly fire.
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
unkillable brain that gives you loads of cash is also fun to use with this.

This is the most secure base I've built yet. Most of them can't even get up and the ones that do will get demolished by my infantry. Sadly they are shooting up the walls though.
I'm also carpet bombing the areas where they spawn with cluster mines. Works wonders.

I mean, I could see a use for it in a 1v1 too. You take a break from pummeling the shit out of each-other to quickly gather gold and fortify your base.
AI really needs to be improved, they are just walking into my bombs right now
AI really needs to be improved, they are just walking into my bombs right now
It would be cool to see some ai with the mine defuser weapon thing crawling up to mines and trying to defuse them. But that would probably lead to a hole 'nother level of awkward ai hahah.
I really hope the modding community for this game isn't dieing down. It's the only thing really keeping it going.
Lizzrd, was a development team hired recently or have you guys been working on the game for a while?
Ladders are also bullshit.

These Medic Drones are fucking bullshit too. I need these tiny assholes to heal my troops obviously but look at what they did. They're legs are mining into my concrete and creating holes! It might not looks like much but they're gonna be able to shoot through it now. Plus it's not gonna stop there they're just gonna keep on doing it creating even more holes. What am I gonna do
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
Once I turned back to my game I already see they are shooting through the floor now goddamit
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
Oh come on now my soldiers are shooting through it making it bigger are you kidding me
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
Oh shit I can use concrete sprayers I totally forgot
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
son of a bitch now they'res two and holy fuck both are being shot by both sides help
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
i tried to carpet bomb the enemy again but they shot it and it crashed in my base blowing half of it up why
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
now an exploded enemy dropship's parts flew all the way to my base and took out a quarter of my troops why is this happening to me
Lizzrd, was a development team hired recently or have you guys been working on the game for a while?
I've been working on it since B24, which was about december 2010.
Can't really remember when the others joined the dev team.

For player vs player matches I guess it'd be useful for telling your troops NOT to fire upon eachother unless instructed otherwise.
