What would a top limb on a crossbow even do apart from hinder your ability to aim at all?
Really. Nobody even points out how utterly ridiculous a crossbow is in this setting? Beyond retarded. Terrible SciFi.
I have a shotgun which runs on batteries and ejects shells, and another that runs on batteries and is pump action.
Ain't any science in this fiction.

Excellent point
Wait if we're getting Xbows, which is awesome by the way, (only thing better than Xbos are revolvers) how is the VS Xbow gonna work?
Shoots depleted plasma cores.

Isn't that the same weapon?

VS probably don't get a crossbow. They will get something that fires a laser or a blob or something.
Christ I'm retarded. As if putting 200 certs into the Flash aquisition timer wasn't enough I just bought the NV scope on the Saron instead of the Hailstorm.

Also is it just me or does the Flash turbo no longer act like a jetpack.
why does the patch thats supposed to fix the fps drop people are having from GU4 completely mutilate my fps.
i got better fps in GU4 before this "fix"
now i have 14fps in the WG.

My game is smoother, same fps I think.

Nope! Raises the question of where exactly those shells come from, but hey, we have tanks that can fly up cliffs again.

My attempt at a hand wave would be that the shell is the product of the battery's entropy and must be discarded before another shot is fired.
A gauss rifle firing tungsten darts. Added bonus: no moving parts and the ability to fire the darts at supersonic speeds if needed.
Also acceptable:
Laser rifle
Dart gun using repulsor tech that powers magriders
Dart gun using compressed air
first three would be loud as fuck
pneumatic rifles are annoying, silly, and just generally way more trouble than they're worth, but all that aside how would that be any more hi-tech than a future-crossbow?

How WOULDN'T it be more hi-tech than a future crossbow?
A crossbow is literally just the tension of the bow part to launch a projectile. The only way you could get less hi-tech is with a sling

The chances of instantly killing a human being with a single shot is extremely low outside of a sniper rifle. Even then the round needs to be traveling at super sonic speeds to be truly reliable.
A crossbow bolt could connect with your heart or even your brain and still fail to reliably kill a target instantly.
Given that the person isn't dying instantly, or in many cases at all, from a crossbow bolt, they have ample time to scream for help. A suppressed SMG (effective at a longer range anyways) will still be extremely quiet and can plant several rounds into a person before they have a chance to react. It will generate a sound, yes, but that sound doesn't sound like a gunshot.
So which sounds like it will draw more attention:
A guy screaming for help with a crossbow in him.
A sound similar to hands clapping. Loud, but nothing like a gunshot.
Crossbows exist to arm peasants. They are, in nearly every way, inferior to a bow. The reason they gained popularity was because they were easy to use. Given the era, standing armies were rare, so having a ranged weapon that did a passable job and was extremely easy to train the peasants to use was invaluable. A bow on the other hand was excellent, but required almost a lifetime of training to excel at.
There is absolutely zero reason in any logic train to carry a crossbow in even a modern warzone, much less one of the future.

modern crossbows are powerful and accurate
imo you're really underestimating the damage a bolt would cause, within it's effective range it would be on-par with the effectiveness of a sniper rifle
Also, its a video game. We're not exactly play project reality or ArmA here, It doesn't need to be realistic. A cross bow seems neat, and it can't hurt the game at least.

RoyAwesome did some digging around, he found some files that referenced a sword for the VS max, now we get swords and crossbows, trying to compete with chivalry I presume.

I had that happen too.

I stop doing damage but I'm still perfectly synced.

Have you looked at the Flash? They still use a chain!

I was getting this at a biolab the other day. Bullets not existing, grenades deciding it's their day off, friendly healy-doodles packing in.
Except enemies had no problem firing ad killing me...

This is kind of a silly argument in general, but why would lasers be loud? I mean, they're just light beams with some science/magic in them. Light doesn't make noise, and it's pretty fast, too.
The game's generic scifized close-history warfare setting is a joke to begin with. Crossbow fits fine. Or not, but it hardly matters.

There are many justifications.
One is that as the laser passes through air it ionises it and causes the air to make a noise.
Sometimes it's the various capacitors and doodads in the weapon itself that generates the laser that causes the noise.
Assuming a Silent gun that functions much like an actual laser, there would be a noise coming from the point of contact that would sound not too much unlike someone using an oxyacetylene welding torch on the target.
So basically Dune?
I need to stop putting it off and just watch the damn thing.
Wait if we're getting Xbows, which is awesome by the way, (only thing better than Xbos are revolvers) how is the VS Xbow gonna work?
Would like to see if it had some sort of railgun system, where you have to charge it up similar to winding up a crossbow.
Anyone else look at the rest of the images in that guy's 'max melee weapon' imgur? Lots of faction specific flash weapons there too.
Also how/what software do you need to look at the PS2 files like that?
VS need more lasers and less plasma.
