Mostly because there isn't much of a purpose to the mines when Grenades exist. Sure, the Knockback and boon removal would be nice, but for boon removal alone you have a ton of better options like the Healing Turret active ability, the condition removal bottle on the back pack, the throwable version of Elixir R (I think it is R), and probably more that I can't think of. I used the mine for a bit, but I realized I would have better damage output with grenades.
Is it possible to make an engineer build centered around bombs? I was thinking about making an engi and trying.

Aren't all of the things you listed condition removal? The mine removes boons from enemies, I'm pretty sure it's the only boon removal skill Engineers have access to. And while yeah the grenade kit offers better damage they aren't really comparable. One is a kit made to serve as a primary weapon and the other is meant to offer utility and support your weapon choice.

On that subject, my engi looks like shit with the current dyes, I want to use Abyss since I made the mistake of keeping it, but everything looks horrible.

(Although, I'd have a green colour instead of orange. But that's just my personal preference).

Try Olive Shade or Green Tint on some of the black parts. Instead of Harvest Gold (although I think it looks fine) try Daffodil.
Those three dyes (and Olive Silk for armour) are the corner stones of my characters colour palettes, and they go well.

Bombs are much better in Ascalon Catacombs than grenades when dealing with gravelings as well.

B: Do dragon events, sell rares
C: Spam run Citadel of Flame Explore Path 1
D: Spend $20 on gems and convert
E: Spend days of your life learning to play the Trade Post to the point you should seriously consider a career in business and economics rather than play a game...
