A stealthboy or three and about 50 C4 charges will make short work of deathwind cavern.
Nice, just what I was thinking. But I left C4 in my underground hideout and I thought a fat man would work. But a fat man in a cave is apparently a bad idea.
get satchel charges, they cripple the legs off ANYTHING in one go
just lay a bunch of them on the downhill and lure everyone out the cave
then start picking them off
just remember to backpedal
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
and if you think deadwind cavern is anything, go try the deathclaw promonotary
just swim across the river at cottonwood cove
BTW:
theres around 30 deathclaws, all sizes, all flavors
Never heard of it but sounds like a nice place for a vacation. I'm going there after I finish deadwind cavern. Shouldn't be too hard with a few big big nukes
there really should be more "secret boss areas" such as the deathclaw promonotary
like a big bunker filled with nothing but upgraded sentry bots that have rapid fire rocket launchers and automatic shotguns
and generally just more hidden mega-monsters
i wouldve wanted to see Gojira in its own cave at some far away corner of the map

One of NV's vaults has exactly this, actually. I don't remember which though.
i remember no such vault
Vault 11. It's a relatively empty vault, empty as in not many hostiles. But if you read all the terminal entries it gets weirder and weirder until you come to the end. It's one of my favorite vaults but it's hard to find because nobody and almost no quest mentions it.
i always died because a mantis tripped on a tripwire and dropped a grenade boquet
and the blast somehow went through the wall
i swear those things are mini-nukes in disguise
lonesome road is so fucking incredible.
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
until you fall off a fucking building and lose 5 minutes of sneaking that is
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
i swear trying to fight the High Road deathclaws is intentionally designed to make you backpedal your arse to falls-ville
and OWB is merciless on power armor
have fun trying to use pulse grenades on robots, youll kill yourself
everythings coming at you with fucking proton axes
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
or its just generally harder than i remembered
What is the point of the BB gun.
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
They should give it super huge crit damage because of how rare it and its fucking ammo are.
the unique BB gun does exactly that
base damage = 2
crit damage = 70
sneak crit + headshot = too much
plus its silent
So then what is the point of the normal BB gun.
To be a BB gun. Not everything has to have a use besides novelty.
Once I took the BB gun to kill Deathclaws. Two shots, the unhurt young deathclaw notices me. One last shoot before I change to the Gauss Cannon.
The fucking Deathclaw explodes.
Also, after rescuing Tina, Ian hasn't retuned yet. And I have a bunch of armor and weapons I want to shell, but everyone in Shady Sands is too poor to afford them. The Hub, there I go!
Deathclaws are a pain in the ass in New Vegas mainly because theres no dart gun

I thought her name was Tandi
To be a BB gun. Not everything has to have a use besides novelty.
I can understand that and I love novelty weapons but it just so impossible to find its not even worth adding. They could at least put it on some raider leveled lists or something.
And maybe Ian died?
I thought her name was Tandi
It is.
Deathclaws are a pain in the ass in New Vegas mainly because theres no dart gun
ive said this before
satchel charges
powerful, crippling, very short fuse
Yeah, it is, what matters is that she's now back in Shady Sands, and that she doesn't want to be my companion.
Also, what skills should I level? Repair and science doesn't seem helpful now, but I think they will be later. I have almost only leveled Small weapons and First Aid, but what skill should I put more points the next time?

energy weapons is a life saver late-game
and in the military base, repair/science is good
really, every skill has its uses in fallout 1, except traps if you have power armor.

Reminds me of when I was playing Quake III with my classmates. I'd always try to dodge their rockets and end up jumping off the edge of the map to my death.
I'm a terrible Quake player :v:

Counter point: Gambling. Also Traps is almost always useless, since there's simply not enough traps in the game for it to be useless. Outdoorsman's not that helpful either, since by the time you've pumped enough points into it to make it actually work, you can take most threats on anyway (short of a random mutie patrol/deathclaw)

I just brought the alien blaster with me when i did it, waste most of the ammo for it but it was pretty easy
I just brought the alien blaster with me when i did it, waste most of the ammo for it but it was pretty easy
i did it with anti-materiel rifle and plasma caster sneak attacks and they still killed me about 5 times before i got across the entire highway.
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
you know i might make an "overpowered" anti-materiel rifle. does like, 3x damage per shot and always knocks the enemy down, but it also cripples your arm and knocks you down in the process.
i just laid down a few satchel charges and it was a cake walk
i like satchel charges, can you tell?

This is still one of my favorite Fallout 3 videos
i wrote a script for a silent movie prequel to Fallout 1 with Vault Archives (AKA the fallout 1/2 ost's) as its sole sound track, would anyone want me to post it, since i know i'll never make the movie?
You should totally post it.
1. Radiation Storm - panning shots of a ruined city, no life to be seen, occasional glimpses of a skeletal hand as text gives us exposition into what happened
2. Industrial Junk - flashlights pan down the street as a group of survivors in radiation suits carefully scope out the city, revealing that there /are/ survivors. they disappear into the midnight fog with the end of the song.
3. Khans of the New California - we suddenly snap to a dawn-lit wasteland. a group of raiders are scavenging from a crashed caravan. the camera pans across the wasteland, giving us a full view of the wrecked world and its new landscape. the raiders go on the move around the 2 minute mark. they run off into a mountain range and we go into a short, silent part.
BREAK 1 - Silence - The Vault Denzien is sitting in a projection hall. He lights a cigarette and the projector comes on, taking us into Metallic Monks.
4. Metallic Monks - The projector starts on still shots of the pre-war hustle and bustle, headline flashes and hints at the war to come. As the military drumbeat comes in, we see a superimposed shot of T-51b armored soldiers marching towards the camera, rifles in hand. There are shots of nuclear explosions, the odd screaming face and shattered building. as the drumbeat continues, the soldiers get closer and closer. Shot of the Denzien's eye, a slight tear dribbling from it. Shots of the ruined wasteland. Someone in the corner stands up, It is our foil, who we will not see for a while. She walks towards the denzien, he looks up at her as the song comes into its closing parts. she looks down at him and walks off. They appear to know eachother. The denzien looks down and takes off his wedding ring, and puts it in his pocket.
5. Follower's Credo - We see a ruined city at night, the Denzien is there with a squad of men, all of them are wearing combat armor. His helmet is dented, they are slowly moving through the street, watching their shadows. They all appear to be alert. They continue to walk down the street as the song fades.
6. Vats of Goo - We re-enter the Vault. the Denzien is walking down the hallway, around him there are literally faceless other vault dwellers. There are segmented flashes of the marching soldiers once again. The hallway crumbles around him and he is walking through the wasteland. Hundreds of vault dweller and pre-war-citizen carcasses strewn around him, all aflame. He is totally alone, and the feeling is of desolation. As the drumbeat comes in, we see the squad of soldiers marching towards him. They are dead. Blood is splattered all over their suits. They disappear when the drumbeat ends fully. the Denzien comes back to reality. He is at the entrance of the vault. with the overseer, as we enter another silent part.
BREAK TWO - Silence - The Overseer, looking somewhat upset, hands the Denzien a gun and flask, He nods and walks back inside. Long shot of the light of the cave as the Denzien walks out of it, into the outside world. We have a minute or so shot of him walking through the wasteland, before suddenly finding himself in the midst of a carnival-style trader camp. This brings us to A Trader's Life.
07. A Trader's Life - He is in the midst of the hustle and bustle, A pre-war city alive with traders, weapons merchants, carpenters, the like. He is amazed to see humanity alive like the film reels. We have the odd flash of the night-time city with him and the soldiers. He looks down the street, cigarette in mouth, and sees the Foil at a stall. She is now more weathered-looking, her vaultsuit reinforced with patches of armor and such. She turns to stare at him in kind. And he walks over to her. They shake hands in a friendly manner. We cut to a shot of someone on a corner, watching the two. He is wearing a leather jacket and is heavily built, as well as rather tall. He is Armitage, our tertiary character. He walks off and we cut back to the couple. The Denzien shows her the flask the Overseer entrusted to him. Stunned, she shows him an identical flask. This gives the viewers the first hint at the reality of it all.
08. Moribund World - The duo leave the trader-village, and begin trekking through the wastes. The foil has a rickety hunting rifle, and he still has his 10mm pistol. He occasionally swigs from his flask. We see long, panning shots of wrecked city and wasteland. There is the odd caravanner or similar duo that passes them. they nod to eachother in kind. Armitage is following them. And they notice this, but do not stop to let him catch up, for fear of death. When the song ends, we enter another silence.
BREAK THREE - SILENCE - They stop, finding the corpses of a family. They hear rubble crunch. They turn and aim behind them. It is Armitage, he holds his hands in the air, hand-signalling that he is friendly. He reaches into his pocket and pulls something out to show them. It is another flask with the exact same vault-number on it. They all look at eachother like "What the fuck" and we cut back to the Vault.
09. Vault of the Future - The Overseer is sat there, We see flashes of documents. "VAULT TEC ORDERS - [OVERSEER'S EYES ONLY]". There is a sheet of photographs of vault residents. On it are Armitage, the Foil, and the Denzien. All of them are crossed out in red. This is the reveal. The overseer's orders from Vault-tec are to expunge five residents a year by sending them out into the wasteland, with orders to find the other members of the vault. They are expected to die in the wastes. We have a long, lingering shot of the overseer writing. He crosses out another face. We cut to the vault door. A cloaked figure slinks back into the shadows. This is the first glimpse of our antagonists.
10. Second Chance - We see a burnt-out tribal camp. There are corpses strewn all around, Two ranger types are stood on guard. One of them is covered in bandagees and stitches and cuts. The other's eyes are bandaged-off and said bandages are bloodstained. Someone staggers out of a tent in the background, Vomits, and dies. Blood pours out from under him. Night falls, our trio walk through the camp. The rangers are now dead. The blind one has been blown to fragments of gore, and the other is nowhere to be seen. There is a large blood-trail leading to nowhere. They find a severed, humongous green hand. This is a hint at Fallout 1.
11. City of the Dead - Necropolis. AKA Bakersville. The protagonists stagger through here in the dead of night. all we see is the odd flash of their frightened faces, set over darkened, barely moving shots of the city and that of the leering deathmasked figures that are Ghouls. Add in easter-egg shot of Set from FO1 too. We see them hiding in a small area. The foil is patting the Denzien's back as he vomits from shock. Armitage now has a shotgun and is holding it at the ready. A ghoul staggers past the corner and is turned to paste by the Foil and Armitage. As the song fades out, Dawn comes and we see a familiar figure, Set, from behind, watching them as they leave. We go into Underground Trouble.
12. Underground Trouble - The radiation-suited figures are walking through a sewer strewn with corpses. There are symbols of the Cathedral from Fallout 1 everywhere. In blood. They walk into the blackness of the sewer. We see a cloaked Nightkin follow after them. The song ends and silence for a few seconds. Their dead bodies, covered in blood, now reside in the sewer. They are one of the many. There is a quick shot of a pile of thousands of corpses. Deep in the same sewer.
13. City of Lost Angels - The trio are now in LA. They are taking a massive detour to go back to the Vault. They see the odd Cathedral logo here and there. There are the odd armor-clad person here and there. Cowering residents. There are dead mutants in a heap being burnt by a group of guards. The trio stick close. Walking through the scorching hot city.
14. Flame of the Ancient World - the Denzien sleeps, His dreams are nightmarish and ghoulish. He stands atop a mountain, buildings rising like ghosts out of the black fog below. leering, rotting creatures reach up at him from below. the Overseer's cold, stern face staring down at him. He sees Armitage and the Foil on a rooftop opposite. They beckon him over. He leaps down and lands on one roof safely. Suddenly he is in the projection room. Onscreen is his wife. She is being encroached on by a group of ghouls. They turn to face him, breaking the fourth wall. The ringleader is him. A rotten, foul version of him. He awakens back on the rooftop. The ghouls have nearly reached him. He leaps to the rooftop the duo are on. He falls short. We hear a crack as he hits a windowledge and plunges into the abyss. He awakens. We move into Many Contrasts.
15. Many Contrasts - They aren't far from the vault, now. They've evidently taken a detour back the way they came, (Missing necropolis, obv.) They are in a small town, The locals have evidently greeted them welcomingly. the Denzien is now haggard-looking and wearing patches of armor on his suit. Like the Foil. Armitage has a large scar over his face now. They all look like hardened wanderers. They climb aboard a small caravan truck being driven by a Brahmin. They load weapons and head out into the afternoon sun. As the song goes to flourish, We see the welcoming village disappear into orangey mist. They know they are going to die at the vault. The Overseer will kill them. But they do not care. We go into Gold Slouch.
BREAK GOD KNOWS - Gunfire - We hear the heroes weapons fire from far away. We see them firing at something in the distance. A raider drops dead and Armitage is stabbed in the stomach. Gold slouch.
16. Gold Slouch - We're in a hilly town not terribly far from the vault. Despite the relaxed and guitar-laden music. The Foil and Denzien are looking worried. Armitage is wounded badly. Multiple dead raiders at his feet. The Denzien looks at the foil. His look is of determination. She nods, Handing him her rifle. He hands her his pistol. He walks off alone as she tends to Armitage's wounds. At the two-minute mark. He is walking alone through the desert. He comes across a car. It is still running. A leather jacketed figure wearing a hawaiian shirt underneath with a constipated grimace is lying dead next to it. It's fucking Max Payne. Though the viewer doesn't see that. My Chrysalis Highwayman is scrawled in dirt on the trunk. He smirks and gets in. Move into MCH.
17. My Chrysalis Highwayman - The Denzien is driving through the desert. He looks around him at the mountains and rubble passing by. He disappears into the night as the headlights come on.
18. Beyond the Canyon. - The Foil and Armitage are in the town. Both are now wearing wastelander gear instead of their vaultsuits. Armitage is evidently healed enough to move. The town is now a hustling and bustling trading hub. We follow them in swift-shots of their new daily life. They eat, drink, hunt some wild Brahmin for food, and they gear up. Eventually, they leave the town.
19. Biggest Little City in the World - The Denzien is driving slowly through what will be known as Junktown one day. Prostitutes and gansters are on every corner. He knows he is close to home. he looks at his wedding ring. He is determined to kill the overseer and free the vault. He sees his wife on the corner. He knows it is a hallucination. He drives on into the night. Dream Town begins.
20. Dream Town - He is in the vault. It is sterile and dreamy. His estranged wife greets him. She is wearing a pre-war dress. He grins as if to say "This is heaven." He wanders through the dreamy landscape. It fades. Blood is everywhere. The overseer lay dead at his feet. The vault citizens are all staring at him in shock. He throws them the three flasks, which he took with him. They realize what is going on. A guard shoots him. He falls to his knees in shock. His wife rushes to assist him and the guard shoots her in the head. He smirks. Cradling her body. He dies holding her as the citizens encroach on the now-terrified guard. The dream is over. He is finally free.
21. California Revisited - Short song. Short sequence. Shots of Armitage and the Foil moving through the desert toward the vault.
22. All-Clear Signal - The duo enter the vault. The guards are there, awaiting them. They have sealed the rioting citizens below. The Foil has an assault rifle. Armitage has a shotgun and a very big hammer. The music fits a slow-mo shot of the two walking through the giant cog-door as they ready weapons. Muffled gunfire is heard over the music as the vault door slams and we cut back to shots of wasteland life. We see the odd vault citizen mixed in. This is the end of the film. Or is it?
23. Acolytes of the New God - The Vault is smothered in blood. Everybody is dead. Armitage and the Foil. The guards, The rioters. Everyone. There is a longg shot of the smirking, dead Denzien. We cut to the Cathedral. There is a robed man walking down the aisle. He is swinging a small lantern left and right. Smoke pouring out of it. This is in slow-motion. Cut to the secret vault below. Something unspeakably evil and horrible is spreading through the walls, Integrating itself into the system. The scene ends as the only speech effect in the movie plays.
"Soon there will--WILL--be unity -UNITYYYYYYY!"
24. Desert Wind - Shots of the wasteland, just like how we began. Credits roll over silence after the song ends. Movie's over.
This should be a movie
