I used to fantasize about putting together a dark magic build and stomping everyone for maximum hatemail, but aside from 40DEX surprise-dark bead casting, it's pretty easy to avoid dark magic in a 1v1 fight. You'd have better luck buffing a falchion and going to town.

Also lets you spend humanity (the number in the top left) to kindle lit bonfires, giving you more estus flasks when you rest at them. Also gives you slightly more defense and item find. Actually item find is only determined by your humanity you have on your counter not by actually being human i.e. being human with 0 humanity is 50 less item find than being undead with 1 humanity on your counter. Max humanity that contributes to item find is 10

Playing without a shield is an interesting change, and isn't as suicidal as you might think. Fire Surge and fast rolling stop people from hugging you and the poison throwing knives, although not very Fat Official-ish, are useful against those who stay behind their shield. The weapons upgrades are only: Battle Axe +5 Pyromacy Flame +5 Notched Whip +10 This is to make fights against new players not so one sided, while at the same time not gimping myself against players who know what they're doing.

enchanted, magic, or chaos balder side sword for a 32 int dark mage build?

i carry an enchanted one and a chaos one. use enchanted normally but if someone casts great magic barrier (which happens if you're in one spot long enough) you're boned unless you swap. also why i have black flame on me.
