Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (XBOX360, PS3, PC) v6- You were Indicted

Sin only lets you be invaded by higher level darkmoons. the equation is something like (SL+(10 levels above or below)*(15% of your SL) ). with darkmoons, the invasion level can be increased, allowing, say, a SL120 darkmoon to invade a SL80 with 40 sin. but as for being in the berg? You should be invaded a bit, unless you've beaten the boss. You could always get the dried finger from the painted world, as that resets your timer, speeding it up, but at SL16, anyone from SL26 to SL6 could invade you, theoretically. There's a nice little calculator to find out your summon/invade range, but if you're trying this late at night, there won't be as many people on, hence less invasions possible.
Yeah, I'm gonna head to bed now anyway. Guess I'll try getting invaded in the Parish as I already mutilated the Taurus Demon.
Just bought the game from the sale.
failed to contact key server
They're out of keys atm, didn't you read the store page?
Out of keys? Now that's interesting. I guess they'll just generate a bunch more for the next day.
would anyone like to buy me dark souls for pc if i paid back with an equivalent amount of games/game in a few weeks when i get money?
anyone?
so did they ever fix the symptoms of terrible pc porting
I don't mind using a controller, but if I get 20 fps no matter what my hardware is I don't want to waste my money

Maybe if they indicated in some way that talking to the same NPC multiple times would give you new information, this wouldn't keep happening to new players. Especially considering you have to talk to him many times before he says the line about where exactly to go to get to the church.

Clearly going to be the best build ever to invade sales nobies in the undeadburg with.
I've been stalking this thread for too long and all the fun things you guys talk about has made me re-install Dark Souls again. Hopefully, I'll beat this game at least once.
What builds do you guys suggest? I usually like to stay a low-level before I feel confident to move on and upgrade my stats to take on the bigger guys.

Drop 2 end and put it in vit. Also keep in mind that invading only goes down 10% and not 10 + 10%. So unless you find a sl9 guy you won't invade anyone who would be already able to kill you easily.
Also I'd recommend wolf ring instead the DWGR, because you will get staggered by everything

If he gets some cracked red eye orbs or switches to Darkwraith after he gets the torso stone he'll be able to invade anyone though.

Tested that? I am sl4 and a darkwraith, I never invaded another person below my level. No one invades me in depths even tho there are tons of signs there. I only got invaded by sl4 or lower and I made the same experience.
I even tested that on the "knights event", set my level to 64 and only people that were sl70 or below could invade me.
Can't take screenshots with F12 like in any other Steam game. How to fix this?
Just bought the game yesterday (Already played it quite a bit though).
It's weekend now, and keys are missing.
Could it be possible that people are not working, and keys first will arrive Monday?
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
Steam could at least say when they expect them to arrive or something. I am fine with waiting a bit.
What's the difference between being a human instead of a zombie goast?
Who is this dude?

Also, I have some question, first of all, should I level up without any kind of remorse? I mean, I'm currently on the Undead Burg and I keep leveling like crazy, there's nowhere else to spend my souls on, well, besides the merchant dude, but besides him nothing, I guess. I also got a titanite shard, where do I use it?

That dude is a black knight, they're fairly strong but don't respawn, and they may drop weapons that are very good for str-based characters.
There is a blacksmith in the undead parish, you need to adventure a bit further to find him. Titanite shards are used to upgrade weapons up to +5.
Once you find the blacksmith you should focus on upgrading your equipment rather than leveling as upgrading gives much stronger benefits.
Steam should probably put a warning about using dsfix on the store page, like the one about using a controller. There are probably a lot of people getting turned off by these easily remedied problems.

It's a Black Knight. He won't respawn if you kill him.
Keep spending those souls. My only advice to you is to NOT level up Resistance. It's a very useless skill to level up.
Also, if you look at weapon descriptions, you might notice their scaling rank (S, A, B, C, D, E) for STR/DEX/INT/FTH. Once you found a weapon you're comfortable with, make sure you start leveling up your stats according to your weapon.
So if you have a dagger that has a D rank in STR, and an S rank in DEX, then you should level up DEX and probably not even touch STR, since it's such a low scale rank.
people all across steam are whining about the port
hue
Fuck, went through the bridge and the title "Undead Parish" appeared, so I might be going fairly well. I just can't kill the black knights though :v: they're hard as balls, died once trying to kill one, not gonna fall for it again. Also, just when I reached the parish I saw a different creature of sorts and noped the fuck out of the game. Gonna play some more later

I never understood this, sure it's a poor port. But surely part of the advantage of being a PC gamer is that you can use a variety of gaming peripherals and mods
I'll just say it. The Bell Gargoyles fight is several different kinds of bullshit.

how
you are given two npc summons
access to a blacksmith
and a relatively easy path to get there from the bonfire
the actual boss fight is quite straight-forward

He's friendly, go hug him.
Most people here will tell you to just level up, but you should probably know what you're doing. I wrote a big ass thing in the OP about stats and where to put them, read it if you want.
Then again, it's more entertaining to just kind of fumble your way through it the first time. I'll help you out a bit though. Do you prefer bigger weapons that swing hard but hit hard, or lighter weapons that swing faster but hit weaker?

I thought that too, for a LONG time. They're probably the hardest boss you'll face until...honestly, like. Biggie Smalls.
The trick is to keep them separated, if you can. The fire one has a smaller AoE, so he's easier to avoid. If they get too close, just run away (unlock from them so you can run). you'll get it. Also if you go human, you can summon Solaire (assuming you talked to him before, but he's hard to miss) and also you can summon someone to help you, although you're on PC so you'll probably just get invaded 47 times.

i'm betting you saw the boar. he has a weak spot just like everyone else. :v:
good job for getting there already. when i first started i had a REALLY hard time of it, inexplicably. took me upwards of nine hours to get to the parish.

If you go in prepared it's pretty fast, even without NPC summons.
Guys I think I have a problem. I really want to get back into this game but at the same time I don't want to cripple myself with sucky levelling and choosing bad equipment. The temptation of course is to just look up PvE and PvP builds and just go off those but I can't help but shake the feeling I'm depriving myself of a large part of the game if I do so.
So what's better? Looking up a build and running off of that or just levelling/selecting equipment with a few golden rules in mind? I'd still like to remain viable if I get into a PvP situation but at the same time I can't help but feel that if I go up against a powerbuilder I'll get my ass handed to me.
right but how's he going to be prepared? he's new
this game does pacing BRILLIANTLY. i think i've mentioned this before. but the bosses (in correct order) are perfect. gargoyles teach positioning and enemy placement awareness, capra teaches that this game is bullshit, gaping forces you to learn enemy patterns, queelag makes you understand positional awareness, iron golem is easy but if you don't remember to kill the guy earlier in the level (bomb man) then it's almost impossible unless you lure him to the very front. biggie smalls puts all of those together, and every boss from that point is more or less equal in terms of mechanics, in different ways. but not bed of chaos, that's bullshit.
but my point is that it's kind of ideal to just stumble your way through shit ALONE (or with solaire) because you'll only have your first playthrough ONCE. don't waste it.
