there's a bug to get out of the asylum with no flasks?

There is! It involves bonfire trickery and it's really odd. You have to: 1. Not use either of the bonfires at the start 2. Let the boulder open the way to Oscar but don't talk to him 3. Get killed by the dredge at the top of the stairs 4. After you respawn at the bonfire you didn't use, go all the way back around and open the shortcut 5. The second time you try the door to the asylum demon, it will inexplicably open! If you manage to beat the asylum demon with no flasks (if you die, the door will close and you'll have to play through the normal way) then you can get out of the asylum with no estus flasks!

Isn't a SL1 run pretty much the same thing though? Seeing as if you get hit you're pretty much toast.

Anyway, so I summon this one guy and we make it past the first chest, where that lizard guy is sleeping. Well, the ball mechanism was in the last place I left it, and it was hitting the sleeping lizard guy. After he got up, he walked underneath that little catwalk. I decide to do a plunging attack on him to finish him off. It wasn't until I saw the ball coming that I realized I didn't think that one through.

SL1+ Ring of Calamity should do the trick.

Today was a good day. I got invaded by a white phantom who gave be 2 titanite slabs, 10 twin humanities, and 20 dragon scales. He then one shotted me when we decided to duel. I found a vagrant who gave me a twin humanity. I got invaded in the swamp by some guy who sucked, I managed to kill him at 10 vit while poisoned using a longsword +5, I didn't even backstab/parry him. Now I have the Chaos Blade +5 and am preparing to take on Solo and The Wookie.

I kept thinking of some Japanese level designer somewhere laughing his ass off thinking "I'll make this boss room way too small and throw some dogs in there! NYEHEHEHEHE" Thankfully the first weapon I got and loved was a Claymore so both dogs went down in one swing once I learned to use the charcoal resin.
