you'd need BBS software (ancient) and a modem (slightly less ancient)
Got the achievement, beat the game, watched the cake scene, sat through the credits. Nothing happened.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve did all of this to throw everybody off, and they placed a very subtle detail somewhere that explains everything. I mean, they already know we are going through such great lengths to get these things.
