I have noticed that a lot of the pictures that look like they are from the enrichment centre look quite dark and industrial compared to what's actually in Portal. They might be screenshots of Portal 2, showing the older areas of Aperture science.
Or you know, the laboratory after the AI ruling it blew up.
e: beaten so I'll just say that the picture of the 'pipe' thing in ASCII is a picture of the pipes that set down cubes for you to put on buttons and stuff, and there's a little 2D dude like in the portal trailer in the foreground.
Here's what I think:
Glados was destroyed at aperture science in 1998, at the same time as the resonance cascade. Her death, in conjunction with the resonance cascade, teleported the Borealis to the arctic setting of episode 3.
The teleport was slow, however, and took years to do, like the one out of nova prospekt. If the mass of Gordon and Alyx took a week to travel, then the mass of a ship like that could take considerably longer.
Glados' backup copy is actively fighting the combine, with those androids she has. Chell has become one of the rebels, possibly.
Glados realises that helping Gordon to fight the combine is what is best to preserve company property.

Alright, so, new theory.
You go to the Borealis, and the Combine are also after something inside right?
It's the directions to Aperture Labs! Where amazingly advanced technology is found. If the Combine get to it, that's bad, so whose going to get there first? Gordan of course! These screens look like they have ruins, because, it's Aperture Labs AFTER the explosions. Found in some remote countryside somewhere no one would actually look, unless, they found the directions on the Borealis.
Damn it, I want Episode 3. >:(
