Yeah spotlights in real life will blind you. You have to realise that if they're powerful enough to shoot beams of light a few thousand km up then looking at them isn't great for your eyesight.
Pretty sure aswell as spotting enemy aircraft they were also used to dazzle bomber pilots to make their job harder.
Haven't played this game in a few months. Is the economy and matchmaking still broken? I got pretty sick of fighting Migs in my early BF109's and ME-410's.
Should just wait for the next patch before you decide that. Which is meant to be rather soon.
Finally, i got to level 2 in British planes.
I still have to use shitty biplanes.. but i have a hurricane too!
I'm in love.

You may think they're shitty but Biplanes can be called one of the best planes in the game in the right hands. Small target, quick turns, low energy loss. Though If someone gets a nice vector on you, you are pretty much dead.

And apparently they can outrun and out turn every other prop plane in the game so
And apparently they can outrun and out turn every other prop plane in the game so
That's just the Chaika though, the only other biplane that goes semi-fast is the Italian one... CR.42 iirc. If you hate the I-152 just don't look at the premium part of the Russian tree, there's one with dual ShVAKs and rockets that handles as good if not better than its regular equivalent.
It's also durable as fuck.
I'm a lvl 4 with American atm, going to play as a Soviet tomorrow.

My Corsair can typically outrun them easily. Only issue if its that russian one with the high RoF...

Well I think I posted it here earlier but a I-153 (Is that the Chaika?) followed my hurricane 4000m down a dive, and stayed on my ass as I throttled it straight ahead with raised flaps and max throttle.
I mean that's just bullshit as hell.
Dropped a bomb on a destroyer but it hit me. Going down i decided to ram the plane into the ship.
Ship hasn't received even a scratch.
What the fuck?
I was going on 7 fucking kills in the japanese reserve plane.
Then my game froze.
Also he-51s are prey for any plane in the game they are so bad.

God damn im beasting in this game.

Typically if a single plane hits the ship, it wont do much damage. But if the plane still had its bomb loadouts or was something like a bomber, it will do more damage. Keep in mind some US destroyers (Taffy-2 comes in mind) have survived countless kamikaze strikes against them and stlll lived to fight another day.
There is something seriously flawed with the fundamentals of this game.
A beaufighter managed to catch my p-38 while I was atleast a km higher than him.
Fucking broken

P-38's flightmodel isnt done and the beaufighter is currently op'd right now awaiting nerf.
I've looked at this game in the past, I think I'm finally going to download it and give it a try.

Just look at the details. Middle part of the fuselage is from P-51. The canopy is from the Kittyhawk. The wings are off a BF-109. The nose is from a Spitfire.
lolololololol
(I know it is the actual experimental/early Mustang, but it's just lol)
I rather like the look of the P-51B, C, and A-36 Apache (dive bomber version of the early P-51).

Hard to tell, but this one has a Malcolm hood. Makes for an interesting look, but I think I prefer it with the standard canopy.
Also the B-25H is planned? right?
I actually didn't know about this variant until recently, but damn would I like to fly one. Dat 75mm.

Taffy 2 wasn't a single ship, it was a task unit.

Yeah, I got that wrong. Just remembered that before I got to bed. Though I think it was a fletcher class destroyer of sorts....dont know which.

Hm, might get that Corsair F4UC, was saving the money for a B-25 when it came out.
Oh, without premium i can only put on two decals to my plain?
Best make them fucking huge then.
Welp, maxed out the P-40.
Now what do I do with my life.
And suddenly, Bobby learns how to use the Kingcobra

AH and meanwhile my bf109 gets like 20 assists in a row when i'm the one doing the most damage and actually shooting the fucking planes down
but yeah you enjoy your 37mm-spewing flying machinegun nest
[editline]2nd March 2013[/editline]
oh and the fw190 a-5 fucking sucks
Now that I know how to take them out, those Catalinas don't seem so threatening anymore. Just a few cannon shots to the engine and they snap apart like twigs.
Oh man, LaGG-3. I remember starting a campaign with it in IL-2 and it was so horrible. I saw a quote by a real Russian fighter pilot saying they probably lost more LaGG-3's than I-16's. Is it that bad in this too?
Oh man, LaGG-3. I remember starting a campaign with it in IL-2 and it was so horrible. I saw a quote by a real Russian fighter pilot saying they probably lost more LaGG-3's than I-16's. Is it that bad in this too?
Eh it's not horrible but it's not gonna win any awards either
LaGG-3's handled like ass and were extremely unreliable. They're pretty much the polar opposite of the archetypical Russian war machine exemplified by the T-34 or Kalashnikov rifle.
IL2's are nothing but targets with wings. They are slow, sluggish and they cannot boom and zoom like other attackers and bombers. They're basically just stuck in the area until a fighter decides to have its way with it.
T5 USA is the way to go.
A20 is the perfect ground attacker and the P40 can outmatch mustangs and la-fighters
Installing the game now, what tree should i start up?
LaGG-3's handled like ass and were extremely unreliable. They're pretty much the polar opposite of the archetypical Russian war machine exemplified by the T-34 or Kalashnikov rifle.
After flying it for so long in IL-2 I've come to somewhat love the varnished guaranteed coffin.
Installing the game now, what tree should i start up?
The US tree has some tough and durable dogfighters which are very reliable and could suit any playstyle.
The Russians have planes that are very maneuverable
The Germans have excellent late-game planes and bomber-hunters that causes nightmares
The British have great beginner planes that transition nicely into decent late-tier fighters and planes
The Japanese have incredibly maneuverable planes, however this mobility sacrifices their armor.
-snip, fixed that bit-
Also my camera keeps centering in weird places like my right wing.
