That feel when you swoop in and take out 3 guys chasing your teammate with one strafe.
Or when you take out a plane...
By dropping a bomb.
beaufighters are maximum no fun allowed

I took out a biplane with a torpedo once. I still, to this day, have no idea what happened in that fight when I had to emergency drop the torp and make a getaway.
Somehow the tube fell nose first into some poor bastards face and tore his plane in twain

when you drop a bomb from 3k feet on a pillbox and 10 seconds later when it lands a friendly just happens to be strafing the pillbox for who the fuck knows why and they ded
Full real battles are pretty fun. Especially right now if you know how to land on a carrier.
I got 15k xp for just flying to the target getting shot up and having to land on the carrier.
Played my first match and accidentally took out a very low health friendly who was being pursued...
-5000 credits is pretty steep, and I actually lost credits for the match.
Guess I'm going to be much more conservative about shooting from now on.

Yeah, I was playing historical battle in my corsair, I pretty much nubbed two zeros and got like...10-20k worth of credits before landing on the carrier. Its good money if your careful.
Are there any singleplayer modes for this? It seems fun but multiplayer isn't really my thing, even more so in a format I'm incredibly unused to.

Theres singleplayer stuff (not a lot of it though) and co-op. But f your going to play the game you really need to play it for the MP.

if you want singleplayer, buy "Wings of Prey". This is pretty much the f2p multiplayer version of it.
Better yet, buy IL-2 sturmovik 1946.
Managed to land on a carrier going the wrong way in a full real battle.

I don't think the engine had enough life in it to be able to go around to land correctly

Almost reminds me of some actual footage of a plane crash landing on a carrier.
Tried the game again, arcade mode is still silly, economy is still silly, and the world of tanks style diceroll-on-every-bullet still never works in my favor. I can be chasing a P-47 in my ME-410 unloading 4 20mm's into him and him not give a fuck, but an I-16 can give a half ass strafe on me and I'll just fall apart.
When are ships and tanks being added?
There's no diceroll on bullets. Learn to aim.

P-47's are notorious for taking abuse. [sp]I know, I fly one regularly[/sp] And from what I hypothesized, I think cannon projectiles travel just a tad bit slower than machineguns, it is either that or because how the cannons are oriented on the plane itself that may affect where the projectiles go. You may have been hitting the plane but it may not have been your cannons hitting but instead of your MGs.

last time I played (several months ago) there was a dice roll mechanic, which is why planes with high ROF's (spitfires in particular) always out performed other planes. I'm assuming they've removed it.
Giving up on this game until it's out of beta.
There is definitely moments where I wonder where my bullets are going. Firing 10 cannon rounds into someone should do something. It just seems like each shell is damaging a health pool and disappearing after that. It's not ripping apart the fuselage or anything, it just vanishes.
The issue is that it's very easy to actually hit someone. If bullets and the damage models were realistic, everyone would go down in half a second. This is not IL-2, it's an arcade game.
I'd also like to know when Ships are coming around. And something that'd make arcade a bit more tense would be removing the lead aiming pip thingo. Leave the rest, though.
How do I know which is the right direction to land on a carrier? lol
So I've been playing this a good bit the last two days and it's great fun. I got a friend to join me too. There are a few things I'd like to see change later down the road such as:
-A proper cockpit view for the bombers
-An internal gunner view (like in IL-2)
-Camera properly centering on the gun sight instead of random places like the wing tip (if you guys know a fix please let me know)
-More people in historical/realistic battles (hopefully this will happen when other countries become available)
Besides that I'd like to see people actually defending the bombers in ground attack missions. Seriously it should not be that hard to figure out that you should protect the ground attack aircraft in a ground attack mission.

You want the carrier to be moving the same direction you are so approach from the back. The back is the end that's squared off.

Also I really want to know why the hell the Pe-3 bomber doesn't actually have any ordnance to start with.
[editline]3rd March 2013[/editline]
Oh wait, I guess it is a night fighter variant of the Pe-2 in real life. If wikipedia is to be believed. Speaking of, I can't wait for the P-61.
Four 250 lb bombs don't seem to do shit against ships.
Eight 250 lb bombs doesn't seem to do shit against ships
(i usualy get killed before 12 bombs can fall... if i did hit something with 12 bombs it certainly didn't die)
Why can't i kill ships?
torpedoes are your best bet really

It feels like I can hit people with a hail of gunfire and just scratch their paint, whilst one bullet hits me and my wings explode

Latency is a big issue of this. You could notice it in IL-2 a lot especially if you had terrible ping. Many times on my clientside I would be hitting them but on serverside I was not and many times on clientside I was not being hit but on serverside they were hitting me.
Its something you will notice a ton while looking at replays.

You can actually see the lag here.

I assumed that replays had a bit of a desync regarding hits and showing the actual tracers. As for the latency, it's worth mentionning that anyone playing from NA is playing on EU or RU servers. I've never been under 150 to 175 ms of latency. At first glance, it doesn't seem to be that noticeable, but I bet it definitely impact gunnery and accuracy.
They really need a NA server asap.
