oh i see, I just thought of strelok when you said Gunslinger

I always found it funny how mouse-2'ing never seems to stop you from running like mouse-1 does. They probably only made that restriction because they never figured someone would be sprinting and pulling back bolts or something.
I do that all the time. Great for finding anomalies while traveling long distances.
It's probably an oversight tbh, they just made it so mouse1 does it and forgot about mouse2.
CTRL+V here after the game crashes. The game copies the crash log to your clipboard automatically.
Expression : error handler is invoked!
Function : invalid_parameter_handler
File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xrCore\xrDebugNew.cpp
Line : 800
Description :
Not even the Description is available.
At least it is not StackTrace, so it's still good.

it only happens in SoC its worth noting, in CS and CoP you can run and mouse1 bolts all day long
But the game still crashes whenever I get close to the Red Forest loading screen.
Misery or SGM?
Misery if you're looking for :
*Scarcity in terms of gameplay economy
*New weapons
*Medium increase in terms of game world hostility (tougher zombies, deadly weapon ballistics, increased and slightly tougher mutant spawns)
*Survival mechanics like eating / sleeping becoming more important.
*Polished(compared to SGM) rebalance and re-imagining mod
SGM if you're looking for
*Buttload of new features like bankers, faction bases, ability to join factions and hire bodyguards, tame mutants etc
*New quests (lots of them)
*New weapons (quality is hit / miss)
*"New" maps (old Clear Sky maps) added to the game
*New factions
*New artifacts
In short, Misery if you're looking to retain the semblance of "normal" gameplay but with a rebalance that aims to fit it's theme of "Misery" in all areas of gameplay and atmosphere. Extremely controversial mod because of it's peculiar stamina / hunger system and pervasive late autumn textures which divide players into love / hate camps in regards to the mod.
SGM, while introducing a massive amount of content, is influenced by a bunch of russian STALKER megamods and as such it doesn't exactly hold a strict quality control in regards to stuff that is added so a lot of the content may be absolutely overpowered, ill-fitting (like some CoD models I've been seeing) or straight up broken. That's not to say a lot of the content or the majority of it even isn't good, it's just that it's not very consistent when it comes to said content. It's definitely worth a try because some of the quests are very memorable to say the least.

Hot damn guess I'll go SGM then. Thanks bro.
Speaking of SGM.
That fucking Izumrudnoye RPG merc, man.
He made half of Alpha Squad blast off agaiiiiiiiiiiiiin~ with that nuke cannon of his. Seriously I was like 50 meters away and died from the blast. So did the Alpha Squad and their corpses flew into the sky.

The first time I encountered him I just heard an extremely loud explosion, and a few moments later a corpse of a guy in a merc suit falling down from the sky. :v:

You're going to miss some plot points (And maybe have a few spoiled) if you play Call of Pripyat before Shadow of Chernobyl, and the same thing if you play Clear Sky before SHoC.
So basically play SHoC first, maybe skip CS (It's the weakest link in the series) and then play CoP.

Get Shadow of Chernobyl, then Clear Sky then Call of Pripyat.
And I've found that the Complete mods are good.

1.0005 and LURK
It was discussed about (On the Fallout Megathread) on making Fallout: New Vegas (Or Fallout 3) run on the X-Ray Engine.
How possible would this be?
Sounds ridiculously complicated and I don't think it's possible.

What if the port is handled by Russian wizards?
So.. I just recently got around to reading Southern Comfort and Northern Passage.. I got them for my birthday last year and just hadn't found the time to read them. I thought I remembered people being hyped for them and liking them a great deal, so I really wanted to read them.
I have to say.. honestly.. I was a little shocked. They weren't really at all what I was expecting from a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. novel series. I dunno if it's because my standards are too high from reading so many of the Warhammer 40k book series, or what.. but I was honestly just really disappointed with both Southern Comfort and Northern Passage.
Throughout the book, everything felt really poorly timed and the writing was just amateur sounding at best. Or like.. how the authors threw in quotes from the game or nods to other games/series/etc or used memes. There was never much suspense or lead up to anything and the characters were bland to me.
The two things that really just emphasized all these things would be [sp]when in Southern Comfort, Tarasov makes it to Hellgate I think it was and the stalkers are telling jokes. "How do you make a little girl cry? You rub your bloody dick on her teddy bear." Or all the sexual content in the book.. it all felt like it was sort of hastily added at the last moment and at best.. appeared little better than piss poor erotic fanfiction.[/sp]
There was no buildup.. and it was just bluntly thrown out there. Instances like these tended to pop up very frequently and it got to the point that it just stopped being enjoyable to even read the book, because the atmosphere didn't feel like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to me. Part of what was confusing to me is that for some characters and scenes, they did manage to capture the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. feel very well, but these scenes were always the shortest and least developed parts.
I dunno.. maybe it's just me, but I really just didn't care for the two. Thoughts..?

*clears throat*
*plugs in microphone, checking to make sure it's turned on*
taste vanilla before you add sprinkles~
thank you good night
*places microphone back on rack*
So I just decided to get one of the stalker games.
Which one should I get, and what mods?
I heard Call of Pripyat was pretty good...
I've had no issues (Aside from trying to mod the game.) It's what I started on, and so far, the only one I've played.
As for modding: Don't use mods yet. As stated in the OP, and by everyone else when asked: "Try Vanilla before adding sprinkles."
Although... (Need a second opinion) I think Absolute Nature, Absolute Scopes, and Absolute Structures are different from that rule as they only add textures (Absolute Nature changes some models as well).
i shall get shadow of chernobyl first then
hopefully i dont get much confused becouse i played call of pripyat i think in a friend house and outta the nowhere i was with some weird town guy who jumped in anomalies in a farm and some other crazy stuff..
Don't forget to play it vanilla your first time around.
Yup i will
I'm a dumb and am completely, more or less, clueless
Is it like Metro or Fallout?
