S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: No new mod releases edition.

So, I was trying to play Clear Sky, but kept crashing to a solid black screen. Some quick research suggested that I needed to disable EAX if I had it enabled, and sure enough, it looks like I do. The only problem is that now, it crashes as soon as I get to the Sound options, without fail. Is there a config file I can edit somewhere, maybe a console command I can use to manually disable it, or am I just fucked?
Clear Sky eh? Which version?
Clear Sky eh? Which version?
1.5.10 with Clear Sky Complete 1.1.3.
On Steam.
Complete 1.1.3.
I just found the cause.
Delete your gamedata folder, download the Sky Reclaimation Pack (SPR 1.0.1) from the first post.
Have fun.
I think we should put in op a warning message to prevent young stalkans from playing Complete and Misery.
it's not those mods specifically, it's any mod on their first playthrough
Well, I don't see any problems with AMK even on a first playthrough.
But again, lots of new players here ruins their experience with Complete or Misery.

that's a joke right
AMK is just as bad for a first run as Complete

Not because AMK is a bad mod or anything but because it adds so much to the game you wouldn't realise.
You start with a mod and you might overwhelm a new player or make them complain when they move to the next mod and find that those features aren't in the base game so they don't carry across.
I remember when I convinced a friend of mine who had never even heard of stalker until he bought it in the steam sale on a whim, to install people soup for his first playthrough of ShoC :v:

And the thing is, we've had a real banner-like uh... Image for that for a long time. And how many OP's used it?

Sadly it's not.
Some people refuse to play vanilla for no reason.
Example: if we choose from 2 evils, letting somebody play CoP with bugfix+better graphics would be less harmful than CoP with Misery/Complete.
lots of new players here ruins their experience with Complete or Misery.
Yes my experience with stalker is completely ruined because I played if first with OL and then with Complete ;_;_;_;_;_;
Dude I have clocked 260 hours in SoC alone, not counting the times I played it with my friends copy.
I have played vanilla SoC for like 20 minutes and then got bored.
I don't really think it's required for people to try vanilla.

obviously, use ZRP or whatever if you need to buy full mods are stupid on the first playthrough. AMK would be just as bad as Complete or any other.
We just NEED to have this discussion in every motherfucking thread.
Look, I admit I played my first ShoC game with Complete and okay, given, bad life choice that was.
But I played vanilla afterwards and looked at the difference. I studied the game at that point, dissected it, looked at the mechanics, delved into the game's behavior and afterwards I've googled Complete's actual changelist several times to see if it matches my findings from my personal experience. I've played it later with a ton of other mods and so forth, but the point is although I played it the first time with Complete I could still distinguish the differences it made in the game and it's flow afterwards.
I understand that not all people are like this and easily get wrong impressions from playing their first time with a mod, but there are people like me as well where they might install some mod for their first playthrough and then try vanilla just to learn more about the game that they liked. I've done this with so many other games than just S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
It's not an eternal and static truth that no mods on first playthrough ruins your experience ever, it's just recommended if you ask me.
Isn't complete just a mod pack really?
Isn't complete just a mod pack really?
Yes. It does change gameplay quite a bit but in the end it's just a severely outdated merge of mods.
A decent one, at least the ShoC one is.
Thats a dick move
I know
[editline]1st March 2013[/editline]
But it did make him appreciate the vanilla game more
gee, i wonder why
probably because was rapetrained into wizard mode by the soup
I might be one of the few who played all STALKER games vanilla-ly on my first playthrough. (thanks to Kingo64's "No!" when I asked for someone to pack all 3 Complete mods into 1 torrent :v: )
I seriously can't find anything boring in the vanilla version across 3 STALKER games. I've been playing vanilla SoC for like 1.5 year (6 months with ZRP) and I'm not intending to play SoC with any mod soon.
Well shit now I remember, I played DMM for 3 days after my second SoC playthrough.

vanilla ftw
Vanilla is great but i wouldn't be playing anywhere near as much stalker as i do without mods.

I played about one whole year worth of SoC 1.0 before I finally updated the game to 1.005. I still discover new glitches from time to time :v:
Sometimes I just mess about a little in the game's files and scripts and look at all the interesting things I can change, and wow, look, now bandits are flying a few hundered yards from PMM shots. Or they simply disappear from the excessive force grenades have.
I'm gonna see and try if I can do other things though. Making pmm's sell for half a million per piece gets boring.
I played ShoC unpatched for my first playthrough(patches didn't exist yet). That was the best version :v:
I also don't even remember it being buggy.
Did anything happen in the past 1 week? I just got my internet back.
NNnnnnnnnnnnnnnope.
