I always wondered why a lot of Minmatar ships had Norse mythology in their name. [editline]03:15PM[/editline] and I still do.
I always wondered why a lot of Minmatar ships had Norse mythology in their name. [editline]03:15PM[/editline] and I still do.
Because the Norse culture follows the Minmatar way of life almost to the letter. They're both strong willed but small empires. They follow a path of war and strife. They live in close knit fammilial like tribal structures. etc.

fps'ses are almost always better on the pc, like on xbox, someones behind you trying to melee you, what do you do? Turn around slowly... and if you set the sensitivity high on xbox its hard as fuck to aim in general then.. Noticed this in halo 3, havent bought another fps after that [sp] halo 3 was fun tho [/sp]
EvE Racial Mixes: Caldari - Modern Day Slavic, Russian, and Asian Gallente - Modern Day French / Western European Minmatar - Modern Day African, African American, and Islander Amarr - Modern Day American, South American, and Middle-Eastern
I think Caldari would be a bit more eastern, to me they seemed like what Japan would be like if they had either not been involved in, or won World war II. It would explain some of the Japanese names for their ships. Although I can see where you are going with Russian roots. Mimitar- pretty much right on, the white Minmitar guys make me think of Australia too. I would also place Amaar more in the mideast. For some reason Gallente to me always seemed like as you said western European, but also American.

Especially in a most likely team based MMOFPS like Dust.
I play EVE frequently, mostly with Caldari characters...and i'm originally from Russia...I haven't noticed ANYTHING russian about Caldari, explain please?
Caldari are more older-world Russian rather than Modern-Day. Strict rules, fierce warlike attitude, etc. Most of their culture is Asian, most of their genetics appears to be Slavic/Russian (Look at Civire and Deitis bloodline facial structures)
Kinda ironic since the Caladari is an extremely capitalist society and is mostly run by corporations. I'd call it borderline fascism.
T_T console exclusive. I can see how the company wants money and by attacking the millions of Xbox 360 players that's a smart move. But personally I don't have consoles :P only PC so I guess i'll just have to try it at my friends house. They better not screw this game over. I like Eve's reputation, it has much respect as an MMO and an icon for space/starship/sci-fi theme I would hate to see the console version giving it all a bad name.
It's console only because that's what the majority of people play on consoles. A strategy game like Eve will do poorly on a console. [editline]03:05AM[/editline]
Something I want to know is if it will have "Just for fun fights", just something people can do for fun, no planet is risked, no actually gain(Besides in-game money possibly).
That would be factional warfare. [editline]03:06AM[/editline]
Amarr and there Close range weapons that actually are med range will destroy you
Also, according to ED, the Minmitar will just be picking space cotton for their Amarrian overlords. Until, of course, space Lincoln frees them all.
On that topic Wakka, I wonder what missions are going to be like in Dust 514. Because it's an MMOFPS, you can't expect people to be fighting all the time. Which brings me to believe there might be missions like ones were you work for Minmatar rebels and one mission is to go and shoot up a place with some other Minmatar rebels, then save some slaves and free them to join your cause. At least I hope it's going to be like that, with minimal offline modes, to keep people online as much as possible. [editline]12:37PM[/editline] Or (since there are vehicles in the game) an escort mission, where you escort a convoy and you get on a Browning (or EVE equivalent of a mounted machine gun turret), and shoot at people trying to attack your convoy for what ever reason.
Kinda ironic since the Caladari is an extremely capitalist society and is mostly run by corporations. I'd call it borderline fascism.
Actually, the Caldari State isn't a capitalist nation. It's a State government (Hence the fact the nation itself is "Caldari State") What type of state isn't yet fully known, but it's definately not a Free Market. That much is easy to tell, The Caldari State has it's own government, but it's run mostly by the largest corporations and megacorporations. Technically, the Caldari State itself isn't a nation, but an alliance of all the different megacorporations, though defined by the game the form of government is "Corporatism" The Nations: The Amarr Empire (A Theocratic Empire) The Minmatar Republic (A Tribal/State-esque Republic form of Government) Gallente Federation (Federal Democracy) The Caldari State (Corporatist, "State Capitalism", Command Market) Jove Empire (Unknown)
Bump. Thread must not die. Good thing this is for consoles only. My PC would not be able to handle this game.
This sounds interesting, I am wondering if there would be other professions for the dust players instead of just mercenary and marine. Would be fun to be a mercenary though.
Probably not, it's a console game.
MMO-FPS-RTS? How the crap is that going to work?
Emmm, Battlefield 2? [editline]01:05PM[/editline] Can't wait to grief some console players. :excited:
MMO-FPS-RTS? How the crap is that going to work?
Global Agenda.
By the way I don't know if other people know yet, but it's not console exclusive, they are just getting it done for the PS3 and 360 first before doing it on the PC (which probably means you get a lovely port)

Im glad Eve is finally getting an FPS version.

This on PS3?
Am I the only one thinking this game is gonna whither away and die shortly after its launch because of other gaming-titans like Modern Warfare ruling the markets?
Not if I can help it! Or at least not if people have the sense to see MW2 is generic, and boring, and this is a brilliant, and very original game.
Am I the only one thinking this game is gonna whither away and die shortly after its launch because of other gaming-titans like Modern Warfare ruling the markets?
I doubt it because EVE online players will hope on to this if there interested. So I don't see this going to waste, hell with enough promotions similar to the promotions they gave to mass effect and dragon age origin's, this will famed across everywhere.
But CCP are terrible when it comes to advertising to the general public apart from online. And most people who are console gamers don't usually use the PC as a gaming system, thus they don't recieve a valid marketing cliche such as what WoW does.
Using like, destroyers are planet bombardiers. Hmm, I do love the fps-rts part.
Funny to see this bumped, I'd slightly forgotten about DUST, we've not gotten much info lately.
