Demon's Souls - "I'm in trouble — please recommend this thread!"

So I started a new game as a Knight, but I don't know what build I want to go. I beat Vanguard in the tutorial and the Red Eye Knight in 1-1, because I like to be awesome. "Perfect cleared" 1-1 (didn't take any hits until I fought Phalanx). Really don't know what kind of build I want to go. Suggestions? I've already done a Dex build, but it ended up more of an "all around" build and I started a Faith character but didn't get far.
spiked shield dex build.

That could very well be the most hilarious shit ever, but I don't think so. This is something I came up with, justification and all...

This is a PvP focused build, but you're still going to need to get there first, and with the right stats. Level Will and Strength first and get the easy, low stats out of the way. After that, get Vitality to 20 and keep it there. Start on Endurance and Dexterity, with a bigger focus on getting Endurance up. While it says you'll be leveling Dexterity to 40, there really is no limit to how much you want. Once you get Endurance to 40 and are leveling Dexterity, go back to Vitality and finish it off.
When you get to PvP, it's all going to be about what weapon you want to use. There are two combos above: Adjudicator + Gripless or Uchigatana + Dark Silver Shield. Uch + DSS is a bit more flexable, as you will probably also want to have the Regenerator's Ring to counteract the 3% HP damage per hit you make. Doing that gives you a very nice +11 HP/sec. For the second ring, I would say Eternal Warrior's Ring. There is no such thing as getting too much Stamina back. Clever Rat's Ring won't be use because of all the HP regen. For Uch + DSS, Eternal Warrior's Ring or Cling Ring and Clever Rat's Ring. If you're doing this, you might as well carry the Morion Blade in you're second Right Hand slot for some extra boom. You will tear people open.
Make sure you cast Total Protection on yourself close to before you start and Cure your status effects. If you want to mess around and have some fun, try Cursed Weapon on either of the weapon configs. If you're feeling really hardcore, this could give you the most insane damage output when combined with the Uchigatana + Dark Silver Shield config (+150% damage boots when < 30% hp).
1: Stats without numbers have no Soul Levels invested in them, i.e. they remain at the base value of the Class
Currently playing a Temple Knight at SL 23.
And I just got the Blessed Mace +1 from 5-1. I now three (almost two) shot red eyed knights.
Feels good man.
Not many games feel this satisfying to power level ... :)
I finally beat the game yesterday with the good ending. The only problems I had were at storm king (suddenly, spikes. dozens of them.) and Maiden Astraea. [sp]Not that beating her was hard, but just listening to Garl and Astraea combined with how Garl is completely defensive and doesn't persue you, and topped off with the music that plays made me feel like a complete monster when she killed herself. I actually stopped the game for several minutes just to contemplate what I had just done.[/sp]
yeah the music there makes it more awesome
I JUST got my PS3 back from YLOD fixing yesterday, and the this is the first game I've loaded up. I had to start over since I never backed up my data and I can't use my old stuff now. So far, I've beaten 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1. I'm a thief, running around in thief gear, with a steel shield and an unupgraded bastard sword. I can't wait to get my Yurt's back and my dual katanas. Anybody willing to try for a trade in the US servers? :P
I loaned this to a friend after I played through it one and a half times, he reckon's he's given it a fair go but he's not a single trophy which means he's not even cleared 1-1.
Not letting him not at least do that, seeing as I know it's exactly his sort of game if he tried it properly.
I watched a few videos. It's awesome! Too bad it's not on PC:doh:
Okay, I got through the Adjudicator now, so I've got one of my katanas back. :D I just need to go farming for more I suppose now.
Can't wait until this releases in Europe, I've heard so much positive about this game so I'll most likely pick it up.

Enjoy the Bladestone grind. *kills self*

Updated the OP with EU release info and a new helpful link.
[editline]02:13PM[/editline]
Also added some more reviews for shits.
I need to catch up to my friend who is level 56 and I am 32. So I need to get to 41 at least.
I've only completed 1-1 1-2 and 2-1 and I went through 3-1 but didn't do the boss. What's a good way to get souls given my circumstances?
Damn still 24 more days to the European release.
Also everyone goes on about how hard it is, so I really hope it will be hard. I haven't played a properly hard game since Ninja Gaiden Black (when I say "hard" I mean hard like it was meant in the 80-90s).

It's an acquired difficulty.
It's challenging and does require true planning skill. Depending on what type of character you play - your most important skill could range from timing, evading, balancing stamina or anything else.
Also, I killed Fool's Idol, Flamelurker, Dragon God AND Penetrator (with Biorr) - Now I can't get past the Blue Dragon, and my Arrows suck so I can't kill it.
I need Hard/Sharp stones to upgrade and souls but whenever I go to farm with my Ring of Avarice in 4-2 I still get invaded...
You can dash past the Blue Dragon. It takes some real tight timing, but I've done it.
World 4 is "invasion grounds". You can do it while you're a Blue Phantom and be fine.
They should have called it "Sibilance: The Game" Seriously, the title is so hard to pronounce: "DemonSSssSSSoulSS"
Wish I had a PS3. This game looks like my sort of thing.

Yeah I can run past the first encounter easy. Second one - nope.
Anyway, I'm looking for a easy way to kill Manta Rays. They are my bane. I leveled so I can use Spells, bought Soul Ray and in most cases it misses. So now I'm upgrading Dex to 24 so I can use the White Bow. Any tips? Easier methods to kill them?
I also turned 4-2 in Pure Black for soul farming. Using Ring of Avarice too.
1.
When is this coming out in Europe?
2.
Is this really frustrating, or are there no cheap bosses and enemies? I hate it when I keep dying because of bad design.

Really, Manta's are not that big of a deal. If you hear one fire off a stinger, just run backwards. I never had problems with them. You could use the sword from 4-3 too.
Don't forget to kill the Primeval Demon in World 4 since your WT is pure black.
I find it difficult to kill things while Manta Rays are being ass holes.
Also, I heard of Primeval Demons - What do they do other than +3 your world.
give colourless souls, which are used to upgrade, adjudicators shield requires them for example.
I still don't understand upgrading with demon's souls. Bodwin doesn't give me anything different from the Nexus prick.
I also ate the first three boss souls and used Fool's Idol for Soul Ray - if that means anything.

You may want to restart your game now. lol
You can read up on all the uses of the souls on this page. They're all used for certain special weapons or spells but, arguably, the most important souls are Colorless. The Pureblood and Yellow souls are also used for a lot of things. To get the advanced upgrades and ability to forge the special weapons you need to give Blacksmith Ed (2-1) the Red Hot soul (Flamelurker).
When I say that I mean Phalanx, Tower Knight and Armored Spider.
And I'm gonna have to restart when I get my own PS3 cause you can't copy DS saves.
Phalanx gives you the Scrapping Spear, which isn't a huge miss, but Tower Knight gives you the most important defensive ability in the game, Warding, and Armor Spider gives you the choice of a few nice spells.
