Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.
So I'm SL 32 now, only melee, and using a +5 Broadsword with brushwood set of gear minus the chest piece(I fell off the edge right before I could grab it, long story) and I'm curious, where are some good weapons/armor sets? I've finished 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, and farmed the shit out of 4-1. Where, and what to next? I'm seriously confused and stuck unlike any game ever before.
Finish World 2 and give Ed the Red Hot Demon Soul. You'll be able to go to him for the higher grade upgrades (Blessed, Moon, Fatal, etc.) and forge weapons with other major demon souls. That will also open up the rest of World 1. Do 1-3 once it's open. You can free Yuria and start getting some of the advanced spells for later use. Don't do 1-4 tho. You'll probably want to do that last. After 1-3, do the worlds in order. You're using the fucking Brushwood set at SL 32? How can you move?? Definitely start looking for a lighter set of armor, or even go back to your starting set. Brushwood is the heaviest set in the game and seriously puts a hurt on your stamina. You don't want to use it right now. Are you male or female? What stat are you focusing on? I can't really recommend weapons until I know this...

I can move just fine, i'm wearing the whole set minus the chest piece so I'm still under the limit. I'll give you my stats in just a moment after I load up the game again. I also have no idea where to find any other set but the plate set, which was my default as a soldier. I leveled since i last played/posted that message so: Here's my stats as of now 15 9 30 26 11 8 10 11 Soul Level 40 And Male.

Knowing how much Str you have would be nice tho. And knowing if you're male or female will determine what armor set I'll recommend. Ok. For armor you are going to want either the Ancient King's set from Old King Doran (1-1) or the Dark Silver set from Garl Vinland (5-3). The Ancient King's set is light armor, the Dark Silver set is heavy. The Dark Silver set also has the highest magic resist. I'm going to assume you want the heavy set. Or you can just keep using the Brushwood. It's got the best fire resist and physical defense in the game. It's heavy as fuck tho. For a weapon, if you're Str based, you don't have a ton of great options. You can use the Keel Smasher, Brand, or the Meat Cleaver. The Keel Smasher is alright and has the extra benefit of having fire resist but it is heavy as fuck. Brand does a little more damage and has poison/plague resist but is also heavy as fuck. The Meat Cleaver has the highest added param. bonus for Str, steals life, has magic damage, and is prob the easiest to make but the damage is not as good as the Keel Smasher or Brand and you can't upgrade it. It's also...heavy as fuck. You seeing a trend for Str characters here? :D
Where abouts in 1-1 is that set? Are there any lighter weapons around by any chance? Thanks for all your help by the way.
To get to Old King Doran you need to either kill Ostrava (or let him die) early, or get it from him in 1-4 at the appropriate time. He drops/will give you the Mausoleum Key which open a door in 1-1 to Old King Doran. Remember that Red Eye Knight with the spear? He guards the door. As for lighter weapons, you would have to go into a different stat if you want to set yourself up with the ideal weapon. I recommend Faith. If you go Faith you can use the Large Sword of Moonlight which is a true bitch of a weapon. It has the highest added param. bonus for Faith in the game (without upgrades), has it's damage modified by Faith, has that damage modifier increase with every upgrade, can be wielded with one hand, and it can't be blocked. Another good weapon is Istarelle, a spear that has an A added param. bonus which can be upgraded to S, poison/plague resist, does most of it's damage by magic, and being a spear is generally a more adaptable weapon.
Alright then, I'll try and figure out how to do all of that.
I would reroll a Temple Knight if you're going to go into Faith. It comes with all the bells and whistles you need to get started.
Hmm. I guess it would be easier. I have no idea how the magic works in this game though, I'll have to figure it out. How should I be going about stats if I'm using Faith now? Strength still matters for holding weapons, so, what now?
You get mana from Int. Unless you're going heavy magic you'll only raise it to 15 for just over 100 mana for spells like Rage of God. It also increases how many spell slots you have. You increase your magic damage from Magic. You increase your miracle power, miracle slots, and magic resist with Faith. To cast spells you need a catalyst. There are several, the best for someone focused on magic being the Insanity Catalyst. To cast miracles you need a talisman. There are two, the best being the regular Talisman of God you start with as a Temple Knight, or you can get it from a few other places. The other one is the Talisman of Beasts which is unique in that you can use it to cast both miracles and spells, but it is not better than a Talisman of God or Insanity Catalyst. If you're focusing on Magic or Faith exclusively, you'll want the best you can get.
How should I be going about stats if I'm using Faith now? Strength still matters for holding weapons, so, what now?
Vit. - 30 is a good number, but once you're around 20 there isn't a need to rush it. Int. - No more than 15. End. - 40, for the cap. Str. - I would not raise it higher than 22. This let's you use the the best shields (and bow if you choose) and any other weapon you'll need that isn't ridiculous (Keel Smasher). Dex. - This is, believe it or not, where you should be putting your stats if you want more physical damage. Magic - Default value. Faith - Keeping this high will help your "end game" weapons and miracles. Luck - Default value. I would raise Int. and Str. first to get them out of the way while it is cheap. Vit. when you think you need it. Alternate between Dex. and Faith to keep them close together.
Does that mean I'm more limited to spell based combat now, or no? Sorry to be such a hassle, i'm just so confused. This is an amazing game, and it's starting to get the best of me.

What you would use it for are the weapon bonuses on weapons like Large Sword of Moonlight and Istarelle.
Thank you so much Banned?. You really helped. I hearted the shit out of you.
I get pretty much everything I'm telling you from the SA wiki I linked in the OP. Check it out. This also motivated me to write all this shit out for when I do a Faith build. :D EDIT: Random fact I totally forgot. Large Sword of Moonlight also has a bitch slapping 80% magic resist on block.
Got any tips for a soldier? :D I'm just leveling Vit. End. and Str. at the moment.
Already covered it. http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=19321000&postcount=187
I've gone past caring about stats on my guy closing to SL200, they currently are something like 40 40 35 35 20 20 20 NG+++ with just 1-4 to clear and off to a new. I found this playthrough way too easy, maybe its because i have near enough learnt each boss and the fact warding is overpowered. I laughed as i roll attacked ng+++ phalanx with PWCT northen ragalia and the poor thing couldn't do shit. I was kinda fearing maneater and flamelurker this time but they went down really fast too. 2 spells short from having all too. Want to get the last ring I need but it's the foe ring but i don't like being bad in games :crying: couple weapon upgrades short though, pain in the arse but i'm all PWWT so yeah farming is tedious as fuck and I don't want to go black till i have done next play through.
You could have a much better character if you focused your stats tho. And everything is fucking cake with the Regalia.
You could have a much better character if you focused your stats tho. And everything is fucking cake with the Regalia.
yeah this guy was mainly for trophies :sigh: i know. gonna keep the faith build char solid though, it's way too fun hitting people that are blocking
I love my battlemage build. I'm using a dark heater shield and raised my endurance enough to wear plate at under 50% encumbered. I'm also using a Crescent Falchion (Probably should have used Crescent Long or Short Sword but oh well) and my main stat is magic and int. I'm a quick little ninja spell casting sword fighter.

I've already passed 1-1 and I know it probably wouldn't be safe to come back til later but I literally checked the whole level and have no idea where I could run into him from. D;
Already covered that too. http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=19321257&postcount=189
ng+++++ now :3: doing this run entirely with morion blade and a clever rats ring and of course a katana to lower hp. phalanx - 1 fire storm tower knight - 5 arrows old monk - 4 hits with northen ragalia Fools idol - before she even teleported once leechmonger & dirty colossus - 2 fire storms :iia: :iia: anyone wanna give a foe ring btw? sl170 :v: got all valuable weapons and some upgrade shit to trade
Why not do the quests for Mephistopheles?
I found a Dragons Long Sword and have been using that for a while now, but seriously, the whole level of 2-2 is terrible, only in terms of it's ridiculous as I have no access to any real degree of magic yet. Only a healing miracle.
Get soul arrow for Flamelurker. BEST INVESTMENT OF 1000 SOULS EVER. You can also be a complete dick and hide behind the bones to the left of the fog entrance. I fought the bastard tooth and nail with a Bastard Sword+5 and a Tower Shield. :smug:
I don't have the int/magic to get any spells like that yet :(. I'll have to farm a lot of souls to manage that at this point.
Is it possible to do a melee only run in this? :D
Is it possible to do a melee only run in this? :D
Possible, but ill-advised.
