Project Reality mod for BF2 makes you feel like you're fighting a 128 player battle.
maps are ginormous. There's alot of standing around, but once you get into combat, epic shit happens, if you know only how to survive the first few seconds.

Red Orchestra, too!

woah im late
MAG massive size is redundant since you only see your squad and the enemies. You don't even meet/see the other 100 something players.

Good joke.

Arma 2, BF series, X Series (does it count? :P)

Mount & Blade
Arma 2, if you can be bothered with it*
Bad Company 2
Project Reality, if you can be bothered with it* (Battlefield 2 mod)
* These games, if you can call them that, are a hassle. I have a lot of fun in the Arma 2 editor, but getting into an online game that actually works properly and has some good players in it isn't as easy as going on the server list and double-clicking. Same goes for Project Reality. They're both full of bugs too, although they have been ironed-out somewhat.
PlanetSide, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, or Bad Company 2. Haven't tried ArmA2 yet.
-snip-
I wish arma 2 had as big a player base as say MW2, it'd be nice seeing full server's everywhere.... it really is a good game, just hasn't caught on like it should have...
Mag gets pretty good after level 12 or so when you start getting the points to have weapons that actually do some damage, the 256 player matches are pretty intense, you feel like your just a small part of something bigger but at the same time you never really see all 128 of your team mates since they're in other areas of the map that you'll never even go near since your busy holding positions or taking new ones. (the game's really unbalanced too) That said though the game is alot of fun, just don't be suprised if you fucking hate it at first, play it for a bit, get used to the controls and level up and you'll start to like it most likely... (I fucking hated it when i started but i kept at it and now i play it all the time...)
I only played the demo for battle field but i've played alot of the previous titles. (2142 was awesome)
Good games all around, honestly the only issue i've ever had with bf is when there's a low player count and i don't see the enemy for minutes at a time..
Epic war game? Definitely BC2. For example, I was playing last night as recon on one of the desert maps and a tank suddenly approaches. I run across a stretch of open sand and hide behind a rock as the tank sees me and fires off a shot and misses. Then, I'm hiding behind the rock and the tank rolls up and starts searching for me. We play a little game of hide and seek and it appears that I'm nowhere to be found. Stupid driver gets out of the tank, starts repairing it, and as he does this i shoot him in the face with my m1911. There's another guy in the tank but he doesnt realize what's going on before I put c4 on the tank and blow it up. Shit like this makes battlefield amazingly epic.

If you want quality and quantity, go for MAG, if you want for quality and quantity, go for Bad Company 2.
Planetside can have some big battles, 600 people on one planet if the planet cap is reached.
