Oh I remember this game. I remember requesting someone to mount it in Gmod, because It had plenty of nice models. Makes me wish they didin't abandon it :saddowns:
Bought this yesterday :v: It's actually quite fun. I'm impressed by the graphics, the models look great and they have decent voice acting. Also, I'm in love with ... wait for it ... the pistol. I don't know, it's just satisfying to use. Going to play some more later today.
How to win this game: Right click :madmax:

He'd probably need the OK from the owner, but it shouldn't be that difficult.

Having played through, I feel SiN relies too much on it's own props and textures at times - it doesn't really hurt to use several HL2/CSS/L4D props, even if they do use a few at points. I just feel that considering some of the enviroments you go through they could be better detailed with the "dirty" feel of HL2 props and certain CSS props while giving the more cleaner areas the "pristine" looking L4D props. Plus, an engine upgrade could be useful, it'll definetly help set scenes better. Could be useful tips for any people wanting to create unofficial episodes.
I doubt valve would let them use the assets from their games.
I doubt valve would let them use the assets from their games.
There's already a bunch of HL2 assets in the game. The most prominent one is the boxes, and I'm sure other commercial games made from Source uses some aswell. (Masquarade might, could somebody check?) [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] It also uses HL2's blood decals. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] And one of the vending machine textures in the game is just the HL2 one without any text on it, and even then, the other reskins are the same thing only with added text, colours and logos.
I doubt valve would let them use the assets from their games.
I doubt Valve honestly gives a shit.
I doubt Valve honestly gives a shit.
Pretty much. I mean, if GaL, NH2, I Hate Mountains, Comatose and similar could get away with porting CSS and L4D, and in the case of comatose, Gmod stuff, I think SiN could get away with it too. Besides, it's not like we're talking about Official future episodes. I doubt Valve or whoever owns SiN now would care unless the modders demanded people to pay for them.
And isn't demanding pay illegal unless we're a company or something like that?
Or until Valve absorbs the mod and makes it commercial. Dear Esther is the latest mod to become commercial, for example, and I think it costs 10 dollars or something. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] Oh, and I think one arena map in SiN uses CS_Militia props.

(And Valve didn't make Dino D-day as far as I know)
There are such things as licenses that allow developers to use assets from another developer's game.
ITT: boobs
When you get to the end it says 'On the next episode...' and gives you a little preview. Shame that it won't happen :sigh:
Can't you just make the prop have 2 materials (meta.vmt + wood.vmt) and set the surface prop there
How would that work? Do you just not specify the material when compiling or what?
ITT: boobs
If every thread could be described that way, the world would be a better place.
How would that work? Do you just not specify the material when compiling or what?
I think he means applying the textures and materials via seperate VTFs and VMFs, like how most ragdolls are done. A good non-ragdoll example I can think of is the CS_Office computer monitor - the screen itself is a seperate vtf/vmf from the texture sheet texturing the rest of the model, probably for the purpose of bodygrouping.
How would that work? Do you just not specify the material when compiling or what?
Two VMT's using the bitmap texture. You're still loading one texturemap but each part has a different "material" You can ofcourse also define the material per prop or per hitbox But yeah SiN has overall some great content. Both as a source of gmod props and maps as well as a self standing game. Quite a shame the rest of the episodes got canned.
