... the bbs uses protocols that don't allow the host server to identify the client machine, unless the client machine actually sends that info. There's no prompt to provide information in, just a username/password prompt.

Yeah, at least the ring doesn't cause any harm that I'm aware of. It happened to my Beatles Rock Band too.
