It is unlikely, but always possible in a VALVe world, that the GLaDOS in the Aperture Science Facility decided she was outdated so she created a more compact and maybe a more intelligent version of herself.

Ok, here it goes - Speculation is speculation.
If that doesn't make it, and you still waste your time trying to figure out things depending entirely on your own imaginations (and things like Mr. Beans *histerical laughter*), try to keep it within the Half-Life/Portal lore, will ya?
GladOS is not like Skynet, she didn't try (well, yet) to exterminate the humanity.
Chell turned into android? Yeah, that totally makes sense. She's gonna have 4 mechanical arms shooting 3 portals (one always leading to the acid pit), and cakes. Or cakes-bombs, that's even better! [/sarcasm].
As for the images - sometimes you can see something there, but sometimes just it's your eyes and your buzzed up imagination + your wish to find something useful (or just awesome) make you see things. Someone shouts he sees something, and there are 15 others thinking they see it too. It's like interpreting cloud shapes.
No shit, something big is comming! No way! It's just everyday A.R.G.
Gonna make some other insightful comments like this ;)
