I have an explanation. You know how, in that Call of Cthulhu Tabletop game, you can summon eldritch gods, who will suffer temporary mortality? This is the same thing. The Necromancers have been trying to jam Mannimarco the unbeatable lich god into a more flexible High Elf body. Thankfully, the Hero of Cyrodiil comes along before Mannimarcthulhu gets totally used to his body, and slaughters him permanently.
