What's your point, we're all confused.
Oh I'm sorry, I seem to have stumbled into a Call of Duty thread, can anyone point me into the direction of the Elder Scrolls thread?
Oh wait this is the Elder Scrolls thread? Then let's get back on topic.
I want to see the gameplay video and the new wallpaper is clean and neat.

Just "modernizing" those old games covers to look more angsty.

Indeed, I'll PM those new covers to benzi instead
Okay, new page. Forget the last one.
I hope they have a nice variety of gameplay in the video, hopefully not too short either.

Doesn't matter. I don't wanna ruin the thread.

Can you use staves as melee weapons now?
yeah hypno toad you suck balls
In all honesty, everything I've seen so far of Skyrim (graphically) looks like a heavily tweaked Oblivion. Most objects and such still have that 'fat' rounded look about them, even the characters. Foliage is typically low-res, and I can only imagine the character animations will probably have a similarly stilted style about them.
Just saying... Won't stop me from enjoying it, not one bit. But I can't help but notice how similar it LOOKS to a decently modded Oblivion.
Gamespot just tweeted that they'll be a new trailer tomorrow around 7:15 AM PT.
Hopefully this is news to everyone else.

All in all Oblivion never really looked that bad. A bit bloomy perhaps. What was worst was the doughey people and pretty bland looking outdoor environments, and it looks like they've corrected both of those. Plus theres actual shadows now on environmental models.
besides, this game needs to run on the same consoles that Oblivion ran on, there's not that much room for improvement.

It's just the gameplay trailer.

Of course it's gonna look like oblivion. It's practically a sequel to oblivion. I'd rather have skyrim looking like oblivion then having it look completely different.
Righto, unless you read this post all the way through, don't bother replying. It's just derailing the thread.
First off, you're patronizing me because it was just an offshoot remark, I don't care that much, but the fact that I need to express myself so clearly in a post about a subject that means so little? Seems like a waste of time. I just think it's funny that they are going with the current game art trend rather than making something atheistically pleasing, or gameplay-related. Instead it's just some guy standing there in fog, as if that's what people do.. stand around in fog. It's sort of insulting to the viewer's intelligence, they prefer to appeal to some sense of lone wolf alpha-male bullshit rather than make game art that actually tells you about the game. The fact that you are making me explain my opinion is extremely patronizing in itself since I never really meant much of the original remark, yet people seem to take a lot of offense; but clearly the topic means a lot to people so let me indulge.
You can't summarize a gist of a movie with a movie poster. The poster is merely to display the actors and general atmosphere. A guy standing in the middle of the screen does not display atmosphere nor does it give you an idea of what the game is:
For example, having a nord warrior on a mountain overlooking a sprawling landscape dotted with towns, and him fending off a dragon with his sword and shield a dragon, that'd give me a pretty accurate sense of what the game is about. Like this picture

That's a bitchin wallpaper, gives me a good gist about what the game is about and it looks cool. The guy is clearly going "oh shit, there's a bear, I'm going to crouch down and prepare for it's onslaught, because that's what happens in this game, I climb mountains and run into bears"
This

It's just a dude standing there, looking away from the camera for some reason. Is that what we do in skyrim? pose in fog and look cool? Does fog and a black background have something to do with the game? It's just so incredibly arbitrary. Doesn't have much to do with the game, it's just supposed to provoke some cheesy sense of heroism or badassness or something that I really don't understand. To be honest, I don't care about it that much; as long as that's not going to be the box art I don't care (it'll make it hard to see on the shelves since it camouflages with the CoD/BF3/MoH/Crysis 2, I might pick up the wrong copy)
Long story short, I didn't look into this that much, sure, it's just game art, but the fact that somebody thought it was a good marketing campaign is just funny. They clearly put work into it, but rather than making something relevant to gameplay they just made some dude standing in mist in some dark setting all super serious-like.
Satisfied? Good, lets drop the fucking subject.
lol
you spent multiple paragraphs analyzing a fucking wallpaper

There's gonna be a gameplay trailer? Finally we'll be able to see those sweet animations. If they show the character moving diagonally I think I'll piss myself with glee.
I swear this clock is getting further and further away from 0...
With so many posts since my last I thought the video was released early.
Back to waiting until 7AM.
why the fuck are we arguing about a picture
please shut the fuck up and post about beards

We already seem to have stopped posting about that hilariously pointless e-drama.
Also, It does look a lot like Oblivion, except they basically improved their modelling ten-fold (Although the photos so far could have easily just been cherry-picked), there are finally soft shadows (Which Oblivion should have had but didn't because "Console limitations", and god knows there is no way to make it an option on PC if the console can't do it right? :downs:), the environments look more varied than just Grass, Trees and Water (Again, it could just be cherry-picked) and it just generally looks like what Oblivion should have looked like.
Come to think of it, Oblivion never really looked bad graphically. Sure the characters were hideous, but aside from that, it looked pretty good. It just looks awful when it starts moving and every character looks like they're on ice skates when they move.
Yeah I was very happy with Oblivions visuals for the time. I suppose we really need to see some highest detail PC screenshots of Skyrim to get the gist of just how sharp it could look.
It's just that my single biggest gripe with Oblivion was the models... be they characters or weapon models, they all seemed to have this overly rounded, almost 'puffy' kinda look to them, you know? Compared to Morrowind, everything was so big and smooth and odd. Skyrim's characters (that we've seen so far) look a fair bit better - they appear to have more overall physical detail as opposed to looking like they were a shaped lump of putty like in Oblivion. Oblivion also had the most fucked up sense of gravity in any game I've ever played. Falling and jumping felt utterly wrong. For some reason, that pose of the guy in the woods looking at the deer looks really dinky to me, like something straight out of Oblivion. Heck, maybe it was. I guess we have no idea yet if they allowed (internally, at least) for any content transfer between Gamebryo and their new engine for any reason.
Can't wait to get some serious info on the game!

Maybe that was engine limitations and engine add-ons poking through.

I just noticed that the big thing with a horn on the ground is a dead mammoth.
...
OHMYGODABEARKILLEDAMAMMOTH!
Makes me sad knowing they are developing this game for the same hardware as their last game, which was 5 years ago.
I mean, the step from Daggerfell (Hammerfell?) to Morrowind was massive, from Morrowind to Oblivion massive, but Oblivion to Skyrim not so much.

Maybe they have a trick up their sleeves. They never really announced what their target platform was.

I'm sure they're focusing more on the PC version, since not a lot of console gamers play RPG's. They wouldn't betray their loyal PC fanbase, would they?
:ohdear:
Also, shit gets real in 1:12
Look at it this way: The new engine at least means that you'll be able to use hires texture packs without the engine choking itself to death.
50minutes! Can't wait!
Link to that Gameplay countdown?
Thanks.
44 goddamn minutes
Just in time to eat something. I'll make sure to include meat and beer in my lunch.

WHAT IS A HALL WITHOUT MEAD AND FEASTS?
Feel sorry for you bro.
Hope it will be better than oblivion. Hoping to see some facial animations in the gameplay trailer and not only the action.

Kind of late but whatever.
Look closer. it has stuff to do with the game. That is not a black background. its a night sky with stars. He is standing on top of a mountain/big rock. There is a dragon tail wrapped around him, and he is appareantly about to or already has killed the dragon. He is dual-wielding a dagger and a longsword. he is wearing fur armour and he has that viking helmet.
It pretty much gives me the feeling of cold, mountaineous, dangerous and badass Skyrim.
