Dragon Language is like Latin.
Dead but spoken fluenntly by a few.
Why do people think It's Fus Roh Dah? all I hear is Mus-kut-cha!
I hear somethin like FusCoCha, we should ask Bethesda :v:
The environments look so bland if you decide to naturally travel - it's almost as if Bethesda expected players to use the fast travel system.
Well then why don't you use fast travel?
Why do people think It's Fus Roh Dah? all I hear is Mus-kut-cha!
That sounds Chinese instead of Norse/Scandinavian.
And the misheard (but equally awesome) lyrics:
For the king!
For the king!
For the sake of Skyrim!
For our life,
For our home,
For Hrothgar's blood,
For the Nords,
And for the Gods,
For the sole single son,
Dovahkiin, our king,
Who will dawn with fire!
(Yeah, I just copied from a vid. I think in the new trailer are other lyrics :/)
It's the same lyrics as before.
Well then why don't you use fast travel?
Because then the distance travelled feels insignificant. I suppose in that world the travelling would feel less significant than it would to us in this day and age; more a common thing to have to do. At the same time for the game to have that much space and fuck all occupying most of it feels awfully wasteful. It's really a fundamental flaw with the game. To justify not using fast travel we'd need more interesting environments to explore and to justify having those environments we'd need to have no fast travel.
Just one of many issues people have with Oblivion.
by the way, the scans in the OP disappeared. here, I still have them.

What do you need scans for?
The official source screenshots have been released.
The environments look so bland if you decide to naturally travel - it's almost as if Bethesda expected players to use the fast travel system.
Well the environments DEFINITELY don't look bland in Skyrim.
I just hope there are horses or some other creatures to ride around. A Morrowind style fast-travel would be epic.
Well then why don't you use fast travel?
Because it's too easy, it's the unbalanced, unmanly soultion. Click on map. Poof, there.
At least in Morrowind and other games you have to pay something in exchange, or have to visit at least once the location you want to FT to.

because the ones in the OP disappeared because imageshack is a bitch..?
Well then why don't you use fast travel?
I do.
The argument of "Well, if you don't like something, don't use it" is very weak.
Believe it or not, but there are ways to improve and refine an existing system, as opposed to avoiding or removing it completely.

You don't need to remove fast travel to justify making a game look good.

What he means is why upload scans when higher quality screenshots are on the official website.

Complaining about something you use while there are alternatives is just silly.

Oh shut up already, all of you. We've already had this conversation like 15 pages ago.
For the last freaking time, Title =/= Name.
And what do you mean they've already given him a story? You mean the whole "pimpslap the dragon invasion" thing? It's probably going to be just as urgent as the Oblivion Crisis, which wasn't urgent at all. Sure, you'd see Oblivion Gates on the side of the road, but it never meant that you had to hurry up and end the main quest. Same situation here, you'll run into Dragons during your travels, but it won't mean you need to haul ass and stop Alduin from eating your harem of nord bitches.
Actually the devs stated that this time the main quest won't be so urgently paced from the get-go.
So sure there will be dragons flying around, but it's not going to be "OMG OBLIVION GATES EVERYWHERE KILL THEM OR THE WORLD IS DOOMED HURRY UP MEET WITH MARTIN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE AND WE ALL DIE".
I'm guessing it's going to start and flow much more like Morrowind, where you simply get off a prison boat with no pretense of what to do other than the contact that arranged your freedom, which you could choose to go to or not. And then 10 missions later you uncover the main quest.
I think it might start out similarly with Skyrim, except maybe not as slow paced as morrowind was (say someone saves you from your execution, and you try to track this man/woman down while suddenly encountering dragons, MQ might not offically start until after a couple of meetings with this guy).
Why do people think It's Fus Roh Dah? all I hear is Mus-kut-cha!
FUS RO DAH is the only Dragon Shout that Bethesda has officially detailed (it acts like a force push), so it makes sense that that's the one the PC uses in the trailer.
You don't need to remove fast travel to justify making a game look good.
It would be nice to have both, but why bother making all those nice environments if more than half your target audience (*COUGH* console gamers) will opt for the faster option every single time?
Specially considering Bethesda's apparent habit of relying on modders to fix these sorts of shortcomings.
Edit: Think I should drop this argument regardless this is the Skyrim discussion thread not the Elder Scrolls one and this seems like it won't be so much of an issue with Skyrim. At least the roaming dragons will definitely break it up, but I'm praying for Morrowind style fast travel too.
We have this conversation every other page
People don't like fast travel because the environments are bland, it's just dev laziness
Good thing environments don't look like plain land with random trees plopped everywhere this time around

DID YOU HEAR THAT THE OBLIVION GATES HAVE OPENED???
want to go get me some flowers?

Take a chill pill.

cough console gamers, yet most people I see in this thread that use it are PC gamers...

Why make lots of detailed game mechanics when half your target audience (*COUGH* PC gamers) are just going to use the console and exploit the shit out of everything? See? It's not nice having people say mean things about you.

Remove Fast travel, but add a horse-taxi or whatever. Or even ask someone who has a horse for a ride.

Except that they didn't make good environments
Kind of what we're trying to get at

I like Oblivion's environments...
Remove Fast travel, but add a horse-taxi or whatever. Or even ask someone who has a horse for a ride.
Four passenger Horse service.

Tru dat
Cept Oblivion was still mostly piss easy without the console. Most all that PC gamers do is
a) Use mods to implement fun new content (that one combat mod that added dualwielding and shit like that)
b) Use mods to fulfill their shitty weeaboo sexy armor dreams with no regard whatsoever for game balance or aesthetics
Still, that wasn't meant to be a jab at console gamers as "anyone who plays on a console". I suppose casuals would have been a better term though it's one I hate.
Remove Fast travel, but add a horse-taxi or whatever. Or even ask someone who has a horse for a ride.
That's actually a good idea, being able to ask mounted guards/cart drivers or whatever else for a ride to wherever they're going.
Would tie in in an interesting way to the Morrowind-style fast travel idea.
I hate seeing too much of footage of an upcoming game, because all that will happen is that you will become overhyped, and when the game releases and you play it for a while, you will realize you have already seen everything.
So from this point onward, I will only watch the trailers for this game, and I advice you to do the same, because the way you guys are hyping it up is just stupid and it WILL ruin (atleast partially) the experience.
This happened to me with Just Cause 2, I watched too much videos and played the demo for so many hours.
Then when I played the actual game I felt like I have experied everything.
Portal 2 has done this well, we don't know much about the story, we only know alot about the gameplay. Hopefully Episode 3 will do this perfectly, they won't likely let us know almost anything.
Same thing happened to me with Fallout: New Vegas.
I like Oblivion's environments...
There were only 2 types of outside environments (forest and snowy forest) and only 3 type of dungeons (cave, underground fort/castle, and Ayleid ruins)
Forests didn't really look nor feel like forests, and most of the dungeons are forgettable copy pastes
