I hope that the traps in Skyrim will actually kill you in one hit. I remember being slammed into spikes and have logs hit me, only to hurt a bit. Oblivion traps were more of a nuisance then anything.
While the traps need to be more threatening, I don't think anyone would enjoy a one-hit kill that comes out of nowhere.
Traps that actually trap you would be nice. A bear trap closes on your leg and pins you there, trying to get it off while the noise attracts bandits who begin to close in on you, so you have to either get the trap off in time to hide in the shadows, or fight off the bandits before you finally get the trap off. That's immersive!
While the traps need to be more threatening, I don't think anyone would enjoy a one-hit kill that comes out of nowhere.
The problem was always that the traps were always really godamn arbitrary. There should be some dungeons where its really obvious that there's going to be traps, so you'll be astute and try and avoid them, and if you don't you end up impaled or smooshed. I mean really, what kind of asshole just goes into these dungeons and just lays traps? Is that like a legitimate tamrielic profession or something? The aylied ruins have them built in, and they were all quite obvious so ones like that should should kill you.

Like, a trap that opens up to a portal straight to Namira's realm. The last thing you see is a massive thorned tentacle made of spiders and syringes drag you into utter darkness.

A lot of work for a trap But speaking of shit like that, I hope theres more dungeons like Arkved's Tower; that was an incredible dungeon. :v: Seems like that sort of thing would have happened there.
Do we know what other skills were removed other than mysticism?

I come from a long line of trap makers and placers, and you've got no iota of the time, love, and back breaking effort it takes to put these things in random caves and ruins all over the world. Do you think its easy to predict where some poor shmuk is going to walk centuries in advance? To carefully engineer bridges and architectural elements to collapse at the slightest vibration of a wayward footstep? How about the research that goes into looking for the perfect bloodline of warrior, who upon death and decay will provide the most ferocious zombie or skeleton? No, you know nothing of our plight, you're job is easy: just blunder around until you trigger one, ruining years of hard work and dedication in a second, only to be utterly reversed with some pansy healing spell or potion. Phoo on you, I say. PHOO ON YOU.
Do we know what other skills were removed other than mysticism?
Blunt and Blade. But that was replaced by One Handed and Two Handed so it makes no difference anyways. I think merchantile and speechcraft were merged.
I think merchantile and speechcraft were merged.
Huh, I wonder why they did that.
Huh, I wonder why they did that.
I see the overlap. They did many of the same things, I mean mercantile was just the speech craft of trade. I mean, if you're good at making a persuasive argument, why wouldn't you also be good at lowering the price of something you want to buy?

Plus, Speechcraft was a bit useless when you could just bribe everyone.
no because you understand jack shit about the trading system, prices and vaules, hardships of merchantry and true value of something (probable in the least)
Sorry, was that directed at me or at a theoretical person with a silver tongue trying to get a discount? You don't need to understand complex economics to haggle with someone, I mean the whole purpose of speechcraft is to get someone to think your way, is it not? How is that different from haggling/mercantile? You're not concerned about the effort that went into the item (if buying), you are concerned with how to get it more cheaply, and that can be done in the way regular arguments are won.
Do we know what other skills were removed other than mysticism?
I think Armourer will be incorperated into Smithing.
I think Armourer will be incorperated into Smithing.
Is Smithing a new skill? The actual creation of weapons and armor? I wouldn't considered it removed then, just expanded and renamed.

Theres the same ammount if not more specialization in skills than there was in any of the previous games. With the "skill tree" (aka perks) there'll probably be options that are geared towards the mercantile trade.
I'm glad they're being merged. In my opinion, they're both useless skills by themselves (well, maybe mercantile is useful for some things, and speechcraft is useful for others) but together, I can see them being pretty damn useful. [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] Oh! Also, just started playing Morrowind today. I'm too used to Oblivion, I think. Anyone know some easy ways to train skills like sneak and marksman?
Oh! Also, just started playing Morrowind today. I'm too used to Oblivion, I think. Anyone know some easy ways to train skills like sneak and marksman?
sneak near people, and shoot shit with arrows?
Trainers. Theres no training limit, but you need some phat loot to fund it. When I start a new character I usually go loot that abandoned Vassir mine, after selling it in Balmora you'll have about 8000 gold. Generally in MW you'll need to do a fair bit of training before you're combat capable enough to really get around. If you're not combat capable the first cliff racer you meet will fuck your shit up, let alone the tougher enemies like Golden Saints/Ogrim/Winged Twilights. You just need to get your combat skills to a decent level (40-60) then you should be capable of mashing the more pissant enemies in the game.

Unforunately a "game improvement" mod I got makes training twice as expensive.
Do you guys think we might be able to talk to the dragons at one point?
Okay. Thanks guys. Like, I know in Oblivion you could just leave your character sneaking into a corner by a guard and come back a master at it. I did kill a cliff racer, but it wasn't very pleasant.
Do you guys think we might be able to talk to the dragons at one point?
I sure hope so. They had better not go all "Fallout 3 sooper mutant" on the Dragon lore. "YOU STOOPID HUMAN I BREATH FIRE ON YOU"
Okay. Thanks guys. Like, I know in Oblivion you could just leave your character sneaking into a corner by a guard and come back a master at it. Oh yeah, also better get used to this. Cliffracers are like cockroaches if they were 20 feet tall and had laser eyes
I sure hope so. They had better not go all "Fallout 3 sooper mutant" on the Dragon lore. "YOU STOOPID HUMAN I BREATH FIRE ON YOU"
It would be a fun quest if you had to find some book of their language buried deep in their territory, maybe in a ruined castle/dungeon?
Do you guys think we might be able to talk to the dragons at one point?
I believe so. The previews have mentioned that everything the dragons say to you will be actual draconic speech, so hopefully the player will eventually be able to understand it. The dragon in the trailer even speaks... Granted, all he says is "FIRE," but that's still a word.
Do you guys think we might be able to talk to the dragons at one point?
You can talk to dragons. But it be only when you shout dragon words at them. Then cut them open.
The dragon in the trailer even speaks...
no he fucking doesn't, that's just max von sydow's awesome voice
but his Fire Puke sure sounds like someone screaming.
no he fucking doesn't, that's just max von sydow's awesome voice
When dragons breathe fire, they literally say the draconic word for "fire," and then it appears. I'm not sure if it's the same as Thu'um, but it's still voice magic.
