They're open-world games with tons of side-quests. If I had to pick 2 games from the last couple years that were the longest, I'd pick Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I've logged more hours in Oblivion than in any other game. (Not including first-person shooters.) There are a huge amount of side-quests to both Oblivion and Fallout that push their length past most every modern game. As for the main quest line, of course you can call it short, but that is hardly the entire game, is it? You can call most any game short if you just rush through to the end, ignoring everything else.
