I never said the story line was good, but thanks for putting words in my mouth.
Everyone's clambering about how great the story was, just assumed you also thought it wasn't terrible.
I said the game was long. I've logged more hours in Oblivion than in any other game.
I don't think that's something I would admit.
There are a huge amount of side-quests to both Oblivion and Fallout that push their length past most every modern game.
So your entire argument is that the side quests, which have literally nothing to do with the main storyline and is everything we're talking about, lengthen the game.
As for main quest line, of course you can call it short, but that is hardly the entire game, is it?
You can call most any game short if you just rush through to the end, ignoring everything else.
Dragon Age: Origins. Mass Effect. Mass Effect 2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Jade Empire. All of them are RPGs, all of them focus heavily on the storyline, all of them will take a fair amount of time to get through by just going through the storyline. Oblivion can be completed in less than 10 hours, none of the games I listed can be completed in less than 15. Except maybe Jade Empire, it's been a while since I tried to power through it.

My friend brought up a good question after seeing the Skyrim trailer, he wondered how we'll interact with rushing/moving water.(the raging river shown in the trailer)
I'm kind of wondering the same thing.
-I'm also wondering the same thing about all the extreme terrain shown in the trailer. Mountains, cliffs, etc.
In Oblivion, everything was just rounded and what not, so you could just walk/run up and around anything. I wonder how you'll interact with these new environments.
People complaining about Oblivion's story being shit. So what? The side-quests made it all up. The Dark Brotherhood had an amazing questline for example and I loved it. I didn't give any shit about being the Champion of Cyrodiil, saving Tamriel and whatnot.

Well, the previews said that the mountains are very "dense" compared to flat terrain, probably meaning that they have more dungeons or points of interest in the same amount of space.
My guess is that there will be trails (or at least navigable paths) up and down the mountains, making them a bit more linear to explore than the wide open land.
I really hope we don't end up climbing mountains by jumping repeatedly at a steep slope until we catch our footing on that one special polygon.

Water might knock you prone or ragdoll you, then push you downstream. It'd be fun to shove enemies into.

You maybe can complete the main story in 10 hours, but I have rarely seen anyone who has done it straight. You WILL start to do other things, and you will forget the storyline. And just because some other RPGs focus heavily on storyline doesn't mean Oblivion does too. Bethesda didn't intend that the story would had been taken SUPAH SRSLY, but instead wanted the player to explore the world, do side-quests, join the guilds. The main story is just a small bit of the whole game, so don't come and say that you can complete the game in 10 hours.
Why has the other Elder Scrolls thread died?
Because Skyrim > All
Usually when I see 40 new posts in one hour I assume that something moderately big happened and some new info was released. But nope, just people arguing pointlessly over shit that's almost entirely subjective. GG, Facepunch. GG.
Why has the other Elder Scrolls thread died?
Because no beards
Sword + Mace = best combo ever?
I'd like to think so.
Fist + Fist...Much better
Man, what a waste of pages. Was so hoping for a new video or article to read.
So disappointed in Facepunch.
Shield + Shield
I'M INVINCIBLE
Skyrim has inspired me to make a longbow :3:
Making it out of white oak with a black walnut handle shaft, will be finished in a few days.

I'll probably take about 5 or 6 progress shots and create a thread in creationism corner (will post the link in here, obviously though)
beacuase
Oh shit, one word and I'm instantly reminded of dot dot dot flash, and started laughing.

We were doing archery in school one day, and the teacher said I looked like I did archery since I was tall. Asked my parents, apparently all the males in my on my Dad's side of the family during the medieval times were longbowmen :c00l:

Is your family English, by chance?
Playing an archer in Skyrim seems more fun than in earlier titles, since it seems more like sniping. The greatest strength for a stealth character is the ability to infrequently do high amounts of damage. Along with the sneak attacks we saw in the trailer, a full stealth character might be feasible this time around.

I really hope they fix the whole detection thing. don't want to shoot a guy and suddenly everyone knows where I am. this applies to arrows and even for guns in fallout.
I hope bows are actually made of wood this time. The one in the trailer was, but I hope there's none of that metal/volcanic glass bow nonsense.
How the fuck do you make a bow out of volcanic glass? Metal bows are possible but almost nobody would do it. Would be nice if Ebony and Daedric bows were actually made out of real ebony (the wood) and mammoth ivory. Would be so classy :frogc00l:
I just hope it's possible to start off on the hardest difficulty and actually finish the tutorial; but yeah I'm psyched.
Fuck saving villages, fuck the main quest, im off to mine, cut down trees, gain money, and make potions.

The same way you make armor out of glass and porcelain?
