Why the fuck is every single new game (2010,2009,2008etc) requires the best PC up to date?

their low, med, high, rape, settings need to have a broader space in between. low should be low. imean, butt ugly and should mean that a geforce 4 or 5 could pull it.
medium should be medium. that means max according to the standards in 2005. high should be high. that means running fine on coms drom dating back to the Highends that came out 3 years ago and look sweet.
Very high should be "i don't wanna be able to run this game at all!" or atleast run at highends of today.
more like low should be 915 Chipset compatible
I only have issues when a game requires a dual core cpu which as of late has been nearly every single game.
I'm not complaining though since most of those games are the type that you play for a few hours and then never touch ever again.(Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2, Prototype, etc)
Going to be upgrading next month anyways.
Do they even sell single core processors anymore?
It's called progress, and you sir, are scared of it.
I lol'd.Nowadays what games need is optimisation!Like MW/MW2.I can run the latter on a 5 years old PC without problems.
Over here, a budget of around 500 euros is plenty to build a high-end PC that will last you a long, long time.
I built mine three years ago, and I'm still running stuff with no issues on high/very high settings.
Edit: Jeah, I agree with Lance. Some games are terribly optimized.
Also, if your PC could run Half-Life 2 on high settings, it should be able to run Left4dead on medium settings with no issues. It's nearly the same engine.
I still got my 2008 PC that i bought for crysis. And I can STILL run every game maxed out (1280x1024).
Except for Crysis of course
1280x1024 isn't maxed.
You can't run every game maxed out.
My 8600gt that costs £70 2 years ago runs everything on medium/high fine (accept GTA)
If you don't have a dual core by now then you're running ancient technology.
But I got a P4, my MB doesn't support any dualcore :crying:

pissing and moaning
I... just don't know what to say.
You say you want to play good games yet whine about them utilizing better technology and requiring higher system specs.
I just don't understand. Your argument is just too fucking dumb!
op, get a real computer, and stop playing on windows 98. this is 2010, we have prototypes of anti-aircraft LASERS. i think that computer games are going to do the same, evolve to look and be better, and soon, that rig of yours won't work with any new games. go buy a copy of windows 7 and stop griping.
1280x1024 isn't maxed.

get a console if you cant keep up
Get a console? PS3 are pretty cheap now.

And you realize now that you have been playing on a fucking Playstation 2 for 4 years?
I bought a HP laptop 3-4 years ago for $1200. It still runs most games medium to high.
Hell, it runs Mass Effect 2 better than Left 4 Dead 2
1280x1024 isn't maxed.

That's his monitors max.
It's called Advancement in Technology. If we had it YOUR way, we would still be playing on Nintendo 64's as the leading gaming tech.
Get a job, get some money, save it, then get a good computer.

Probably because ME is almost a complete port from consoles with a few tweaks for monitor resolution and shit.
With your logic and reasoning, we would still be at NES like graphics.
"DAMN THOSE 3D APPLICATIONS! HOW MUCH CAN IT POSSIBLY COST TO ADD A 2D MODE?!"
Also, you remind me of that guy who bitched and moaned because GTA 4 wouldn't be released on PS2.

where is the nearest museum, I got stuff to donate :smug:
Yeah! have you seen the specs for Peggle Deluxe? holy shit, i can't even play plants vs zombies with my last year Nvidia card!
/rant!
You know guys, not everyone is made of money. I can't afford a new computer
Jobs are not an option, there is no oddjobs here and I am not legally old enough for a real one.
A lot of developers like to focus on pretty graphics over quality games.
Ironically, it's why I'm starting to enjoy and pay for simpler looking games.
I threw my old P4, old intel mobo and 4 sticks of ddr333 ram on the trash some weeks ago. It was a truly saddening experience. I shed a tear (A very manly one) as I looked at them for the last time as they had laid themselves ontop of some other old electrical equipment in the old container and I silently whispered, "Bye" . These guys and I have had so much fun together. R.I.P Intel Pentium 4 Prescott, old Intel motherboard I sadly can't remember the model of, and ddr333 Crucial ram. You'll always be in my heart. :crying:
I can play most games on high as long as I have anti-aliasing and shaders off, on a 7 year old computer, with a 3 year old graphics card that I bought last year.
It's only horrible console ports that run like shit.
Some spaces between your sentences would go a long way. Also they don't.

ahh man what is that dervish elite?
I don't understand all that "upgrade every time a new game come out" thing.
I had a computer with:
Intel Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
3.3Gb ram
ATI Radeon 3600 HD series
275GB HDD
I was able to run Cod:mw2 on high settings with reduced resolution and all source game on medium or high with a FPS that was always over 30.
Sure you can spend 550$ for the new graphic card that will allow you to see the 40 missing polygon on that 2500 polygon model, but is it really necessary?
Graphic don't make good game anyway, VALVe understand that.
Or if needed, just buy a console, the one you want depend of your needs
