Anytime the Siren shows up on 1999 mode I can feel my hair falling out that last battle jesus fuck why so many fucking vox so little ammo I spawned that Mosquito in about a hundred thousand times while taking potshots from a sniper rifle Not only are the Sirens the most shoehorned thing in the game (and totally do not fit the plot or anything) but I swear to god they are so insanely poorly designed the rest of the game is fine but when I get to a Siren? Fuck this is the worst game ever made
you should spoiler tag that for others
...except in the previews you knew the Siren was an enemy. It's not a spoiler.
...except in the previews you knew the Siren was an enemy. It's not a spoiler.
Some people restrict themselves from the game's media to have as fresh and new of an experience as possible
For a game that requires to you pay close attention to the story, you sure are encouraged not to think too hard about the "science".
I absolutely hate this game, if only for the fact that having now beaten it twice and being unwilling to play it a third time for fear of killing the enjoyment factor, every other game I own seems painfully inadequate in relation to it. So that leaves me with several choices. I can either play it again, play something else despite it not going to be nearly as fun, create a time machine to go forward in time to when the DLCs are released, or cry in a corner. I think I'll choose that last one. Please excuse me.
...except in the previews you knew the Siren was an enemy. It's not a spoiler.
I had no idea I was gonna be fighting it when I first played.
....oookay. I didn't say anything about the enemy other than that there is an enemy named the Siren if that is a spoiler to anyone they should consider the idea that the world doesn't bend over backwards for them
I had no idea I was gonna be fighting it when I first played.
Around the time they teased the Boys of Silence they also teased the Siren. I spent most of the game wondering where it was, until around the halfway mark you find out. Also dissapointed the Boys of Silence are practically not in this at all
A smart person never reads the last 2 pages in this thread, in order to let the mods filter out the non spoiler tagged spoilers
For a game that requires to you pay close attention to the story, you sure are encouraged not to think too hard about the "science".
That's because over thinking the blatantly obvious pseudo science will ruin the story, I think the game is fully aware that all the science behind everything is bananawackobullshit (IE: floating city in 1912). Hence it not wanting you to delve to deeply into something that is obviously going to be shallow.
This totally hit me on my second play-through: [sp] when Elizabeth opens the tear to Paris before you meet up with her in the statue for the first time, the movie theater reads "Revenge of the Jedi" and as Booker heads up the stairs towards the outside, you can hear him say "This deals getting worse all the time...." Made me smile that I saw another pop-culture reference in there i missed first time around[/sp] :v:
For a game that requires to you pay close attention to the story, you sure are encouraged not to think too hard about the "science".
What are you talking about? Everything extremely surreal in the game was explained in a way that fit the context of the game very well. Hell, they even explain how the city is able to float.

The original Bioshock had this feeling that it was somewhere hidden you could actually come across, Infinite relies on far too much magic for my tastes. That`s not to say there was anything realistic about eating little girls and shooting bees but (pardon this pun) Bioshock felt more grounded in reality. I don`t know. I don`t like when magic gets involved cause then you just get lazy with writing.
[sp]If that's the case what's the final, after the end credits segment supposed to imply.[/sp]
No. Nonononono god damn it, I skipped the credits.

It seemed really phoned in even by soft sci-fi standards.
The only thing more magical was [sp]Elizabeth[/sp], and that really didnt have them get lazy with writing, if anything it made them work harder with it.
Well that was more because she [sp] lost her finger when Comstock kidnapped her in the other dimension when she was a baby.[/sp]
[sp]I assumed that the siren was using tears to bring back alternates of the people she's raising; they're basically the same as the Washington heads in Comstock House. Granted, I wasn't listening to what they were saying so they COULD have been normal, but honestly that's probably the best explanation.[/sp]

Was that supposed to be implying mind control was going on?
I'm going to 'copy' a post I found on NeoGAF explaining that this game is all about [sp]redemption[/sp] SPOILER ALERT [sp]Baptism, drowning, being born again, rebirth, redemption, atoning for past sins is a huge theme in the game. - DeWitt is trying to find redemption for his past atrocities at Wounded Knee and as a Pinkerton. - DeWitt is trying to atone for selling off his kid 20 years ago. - The Lettuces are trying to undo their part in starting all of this. They refer to DeWitt as their "hair shirt" (look it up). They are trying to find redemption through DeWitt. - The first thing you see when stepping into the lighthouse and action event is the bowl of water to cleanse yourself of sins. DeWitt looks down at it, then "refuses" by not touching the water and looks at the sign above it that says something about cleansing your sins and says "good luck with that, pal" - First thing that happens when he enters Columbia is getting baptized/drowned by the Preacher. When he wakes up he says "That preacher needs to figure out the difference between baptism and drowning." A guy comes up to him and says that the prophet fills your lungs with water so that you may love the air more. - Songbird's only weakness is the high pressure of water. This is foreshadowed when you arrive at Battleship Bay by almost drowning in the "ocean". This happens again at the end when Songbird drowns at Rapture. - Comstock is killed by getting his head slammed on a baptism bowl thing. - The DeWitt baptisms at the end (self-explanatory). I think the Motorized Patriots may be the most badass thing I've ever seen in a video game. Robotic George Washingtons with old timey gatling guns that spout patriotism while they walk around with butterfly wings made out of american flags? Give up other games, this is it. This is why Infinite is a winner.
He's annoying?
Wikipedia: [sp]It was used in some religious traditions to induce discomfort or pain as a sign of repentance and atonement.[/sp]

This game is full of tiny details that make the story so much deeper. [sp]For example when you find Albert Finks body in Emporia he is clutching a picture of a woman.[/sp] It makes even the dead characters seem more human. Also [sp] it is somewhat suggested in a voxaphone that Songbird is a big daddy. Makes me wonder who is inside[/sp]

One thing that I was wondering about was the [sp]origins of the Handymen? It says in one part of the game that they were pacifists, I know that, so were they "repurposed" to be Handymen to serve Columbia? Whenever you fight one they complain that they don't want to do this and that their heads hurt, so it lead me to believe that they were tortured and grafted into the Handymen suits to serve Columbia when their values didn't fit with Comstock's vision. It's just one of those interesting little pieces of the game's worldbuild that intrigued me.[/sp]
