The FROGs don't respawn. Only Gekko do.
The FROGs don't respawn. Only Gekko do.
Really? Because when I was shooting at them, they never stopped coming. Ever. Also, it doesn't matter now because I finally managed to sneak by. It really has been too long since I've played.
Okay, what I should have said was that non-combat FROGs don't respawn. If you're spotted and trying to battle out then yes, you will get mulched by infinite FROGs and Gekko because fuck you that's why.
Oh god, I'm on the Screaming Mantis fight and I tried to use the syringe on Meryl with CQC, but instead I used the knife. :v:
Taking out Gekko is way more trouble than it's worth. I need to avoid combat in anyway possible, because they just keep respawning no matter what. Also I'm not crawling so I can move fast enough to avoid the enemies' patrol paths. Wouldn't want them to walk right into me when I'm trying to reach a ladder.
Shoot their legs with the tranq gun. They will fall over and start making awful noises. For some reason this does not alert ANYTHING else, and you can go right past them. Be warned though, they don't stay down forever.
Man, this cutscene with Johnny and Meryl is so fucking dumb. I love it.
Man, this cutscene with Johnny and Meryl is so fucking dumb. I love it.
Most of the cutscenes are really dumb. Guns of the Patriots, Vamp vs Raiden. And they are all amazing.
Wow this final boss fight is rad as hell.
Wow this final boss fight is rad as hell.
The best is yet to come... And by the best I mean the epilogue.
They really shot themselves in the foot trying to handwave away all of the supernatural things. Especially Vamp.
You can TRANQ GEKKO?! omg i need to try this why is my ps3 at home
Yup, tranqs effect anything that is organic. The Gekko's legs are made from stem cells, so they are actual flesh. They were made that way so they could have superior mobility. Be warned though, the howling that they do when they are tranqed is REALLY annoying.
They really shot themselves in the foot trying to handwave away all of the supernatural things. Especially Vamp.
Definitely. The whole thing that made Raiden vs Vamp so awesome was the fact that it was basically Technology vs The Supernatural. MGS4 just made it Technology vs Technology, which sucks.

What I think really made him great was his strength and skill with knives. That was just raw natural talent.
I can't believe they even tried to change it. Yes clearly walking on water, and attacking my shadow are hypnosis.
The best is yet to come... And by the best I mean the epilogue.
You lied. Nothing in the epilogue even came close.
Wow this final boss fight is rad as hell.
It's also pretty hard.
It's even weirder that they cut out supernatural things is that SNAKE EATER was the game immediately before Guns of the Patriots. I mean for fuck's sake you fight ghosts in that game, as well as a guy who is made out of moss.
Got MGS4 super cheap on Amazon UK, can't wait for it to arrive. It's been years since I've played it

BB is just tripping balls halfway into the mission.
I can't believe they even tried to change it. Yes clearly walking on water, and attacking my shadow are hypnosis.
What did they try to change? Weren't both of those things explained in MGS2? Been awhile since I've played it. I know that the shadow thing was thought to be hypnosis, which makes since. Hypnosis is about making someone believe something. Also, wasn't the walking on water thing attributed to his boots or something?

It's kinda rude, especially (As one user above points out) that it destroys the theme of Technology vs supernatural. The fight between powers given and those obtained, a theme that is constantly coming up throughout the series.
I just found out that Kevin and Vamp are both voiced by Phil Lamarr.

If anything, the series focuses heavily on things that past and current militaries have, or were have thought to have, experimented with: Psychokinesis, hypnosis, nanorobotics, rail guns, water jet cutting, free electron lasers, nuclear weapons, etc. It makes sense that the supposed supernatural abilities Vamp possessed can be explained through the use of technology, and other themes that were believed to have been experimented with by militaries around the world. MGS3 was the one that was really off the rocker as far as supernatural is concerned.
I'm speaking more of getting given power vs obtaining it through experience. It's why the genome soldiers failed so hard in comparison to Foxhound and Dead Cell, who are competent because they have actually been out in the field, they've fought and lost people, they know what it's like. MGS2 is almost the best example I can think of that does this, Raiden is a kid compared to Snake, he has to learn how to be the best he can be, and upon realizing that he has limits, E.G. fighting Vamp, someone who has supernatural powers gifted to him through, fuck, I don't know, magic, he has to get on his level, specifically by replacing his body piece by piece, technology replacing skill.
It's also pretty hard.
It's fucking hell on The Boss Extreme. Hnnng it took me hours to beat that damn thing.
Psycho Mantis? Raven? Vamp? [sp]Fortune? Liquid?[/sp]
Fortune was always weird to me. It's like, first she has super powers and shit, then it's revealed she doesn't have super powers, but rather has some super science nano technology that she didn't even know about herself, and then it turns out she had super powers all along anyway.
Psycho Mantis? Levitating every object in the room and fucking floating in the air.
Psychokinesis/Telekinesis was thought to be an ability of the human brain, and not considered to be supernatural. Of course, it has never been proven.
