Theres a diffrent client there, in the bottom-left corner. It can do whatever reguardless of if the server has things like -speed or +ophax. [This client broke when notch added the stairs, but it was fixed some time ago.] .
He's right though, it doesn't work ingame.
Everything that's on the main character map just comes out black.

you know what's fun, is if the sand is one block thick and you place a block on the side of any of the sandblocks, all of the sand connected to that block falls out of the sky. :saddowns:
