The video he made involved things made by the community, not Mojang. It's just like how I don't expect Valve to make a new game every ten years, but I can expect the community to make some kick-ass custom content to use, along with making really fun events.
This "Minecraft Weekly" or whatever could showcase awesome creations, awesome servers, awesome skins, awesome people, and the like.

It's actually a good idea, but it's just how it's executed. I'm afraid if the OP makes videos, it's going to be unprofessional from a video making standpoint. Leaving people uninterested. However, if he has videos from other users, how will he get his views?

I agree that he shouldn't be the one leading a project like that. But this opens up a door for something awesome. And the door isn't any normal door, either: Its frame is jewel encrusted, its knob made of diamond, and when you open it you hear a choir of angels singing as whatever is behind the door blinds you with a bright light of glory.
Basically, there's potential. We just need to find some people who are up to doing this. I'd love to watch it if it existed.
