Useless?? I think not. You obviously have never tried to build a bridge. Crouching would put you closer to the ground, make you walk slower, and ultimately make it easier to peer over the edge and add a block. While the only use for a headlamp would be not having to place torches every 5 blocks.

City nodes would probably be made of some ridiculously expensive material, just so people can't go making fake city nodes and luring people off into the wilderness. A minimum distance between city nodes would probably need to be implemented to.
